Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying insect resistance to (Bt) pesticidal proteins is crucial for sustainable pest management. Here, we found that downregulation of the ecdysone oxidase gene () in the normal feeding stages contributes to increased 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) titer and mediates resistance to the Bt Cry1Ac toxin. The gene was cloned and its expression was significantly downregulated in the midgut of Bt-resistant and Cry1Ac-selected .

Article Synopsis
  • KIR interactions with HLA class I are important for NK cell responses to viruses, including SARS-CoV-2.
  • In a study comparing COVID-19 patients to a control group, a higher frequency of the KIR3DL3*00802 gene variant was found in those with COVID-19, suggesting a link to increased susceptibility.
  • Conversely, the HLA-Bw4 variant, which interacts with KIR3DL1, was less frequent in COVID-19 patients, indicating it might offer some protection against the virus.

Objetive: To analyze the sequence of a novel HLA-DPB1 allele in an individual.

Methods: A individual identified from the database of blood donors for matched platelet transfusion at the Blood Center of Zhejiang Province in May 2022 was selected as the study subject. HLA genotype of the individual was determined by next-generation sequencing (NGS) on an Ion Torrent S5 platform.

Epsilon toxin (ETX), a potential agent of biological and toxic warfare, causes the death of many ruminants and threatens human health. It is crucial to understand the toxic mechanism of such a highly lethal and rapid course toxin. In this study, we detected the effects of ETX on the proteome and phosphoproteome of MDCK cells after 10 min and 30 min.

Understanding genome-wide diversity, inbreeding, and the burden of accumulated deleterious mutations in small and isolated populations is essential for predicting and enhancing population persistence and resilience. However, these effects are rarely studied in limestone karst plants. Here, we re-sequenced the nuclear genomes of 62 individuals of the complex (, , and ) and investigated genomic divergence and genetic load for these four species.

Mounting evidence suggests that insect hormones associated with growth and development also participate in pathogen defense. We have discovered a previously undescribed midgut transcriptional control pathway that modulates the availability of 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) in a worldwide insect pest (), allowing it to defeat the major virulence factor of an insect pathogen (Bt). A reduction of the transcriptional inhibitor (PxDfd) increases the expression of a midgut microRNA (miR-8545), which in turn represses the expression of a newly identified ecdysteroid-degrading glucose dehydrogenase (PxGLD).

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a group of severe genetic bone disorders characterized by congenital low bone mass, deformity, and frequent fractures. Type XV OI is a moderate to severe form of skeletal dysplasia caused by WNT1 variants. In this cohort study from southern China, we summarized the clinical phenotypes of patients with WNT1 variants and found that the proportion of type XV patients was around 10.

The Zhejiang Han population, a subgroup of the Southern Han ethnic group, resides in Zhejiang Province, situated on the southeast coast of China. In this study, we conducted HLA genotyping for 813 voluntary umbilical cord blood donors from the Zhejiang Han population, targeting 11 HLA loci, namely HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C, HLA-DRB1, HLA-DRB3/4/5, HLA-DQA1, HLA-DQB1, HLA-DPA1, and HLA-DPB1, using the next-generation sequencing method. Our analysis of the alleles and haplotypes revealed a high degree of polymorphism within these loci.

Fungal corneal ulcer is one of the leading causes of corneal blindness in developing countries. Corneal scars such as leukoplakia are formed due to inflammation, oxidative stress and non-directed repair, which seriously affect the patients' subsequent visual and life quality. In this study, drawing inspiration from the oriented structure of collagen fibers within the corneal stroma, we first proposed the directional arrangement of CuTA-CMHT hydrogel system at micro and macro scales based on the 3D printing extrusion method combined with secondary patterning.

Improving the generalization ability of scoring functions remains a major challenge in protein-ligand binding affinity prediction. Many machine learning methods are limited by their reliance on single-modal representations, hindering a comprehensive understanding of protein-ligand interactions. We introduce a graph-neural-network-based scoring function that utilizes a triplet contrastive learning loss to improve protein-ligand representations.

Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease originating in the sebaceous gland units of the skin follicles. Isotretinoin is presently the primary choice for the treatment of acne vulgaris. However, it could induce several adverse reactions like diarrhea, cheilitis, headache, elevated triglyceride levels and risk of inflammatory bowel disease and depression.

Fungi play a crucial role in decomposing litter and facilitating the energy flow between aboveground plants and underground soil in forest ecosystems. However, our understanding how the fungal community involved in litter decomposition responds during forest succession, particularly in disease-driven succession, is still limited. This study investigated the activity of degrading enzyme, fungal community, and predicted function in litter after one year of decomposition in different types of forests during a forest succession gradient from coniferous to deciduous forest, induced by pine wilt disease.
