Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of urinary Wilms' tumour-1 (WT-1) and mu-glutathione S-transferase (Mu-GST) gene expression for detecting kidney injury in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: Patients treated between October 2022 and June 2023 were divided into two groups: a diabetic nephropathy (DN) group (105 patients) and a diabetes mellitus (DM) group (100 patients). Additionally, 100 healthy individuals undergoing routine medical check-ups were selected as the control group.

The impact of transition metal (Ag) deficiencies on the structural and transport properties of ThCrSi-type arsenides are investigated. We experimentally confirm a partial occupancy of Ag in BaAgAs, which can be predictably controlled within 0.053(5) ≤ ≤ 0.

The global expansion of domesticated plant and animal species has profoundly impacted biodiversity and ecosystem functions. However, the spillover effect of non-native honey bees from mass-flowering crops into adjacent natural vegetation on pollination function within plant communities remains unclear. To address this, we conduct field experiments to investigate the ecological impacts of honey bees (Apis mellifera) and a mass-flowering crop (Brassica rapa var.

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the impact of rare earth elements (REEs) exposure on pregnancy outcomes of fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) by analyzing samples from spouses.

Methods: A total of 141 couples were included. Blood and follicular fluid from the wives and semen plasma from the husbands, were analyzed for REEs using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

In acidic proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE), the anode oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts rely heavily on the expensive and scarce iridium-based materials. Ruthenium dioxide (RuO) with lower price and higher OER activity, has been explored for the similar task, but has been restricted by the poor stability. Herein, we developed an anion modification strategy to improve the OER performance of RuO in acidic media.

Conventional flap repair surgery has several drawbacks, including operational complexity, donor site damage, and high risk. In this case series, the authors explored an alternative approach for repairing exposed tendon wounds caused by trauma using absorbable gelatin sponges (AGSs) and autologous thigh skin grafts. This report presents two cases of lower-extremity skin necrosis with tendon exposure following wound debridement.

In forensic practice, determining the postmortem submersion interval (PMSI) and cause-of-death of cadavers in aquatic ecosystems has always been challenging task. Traditional approaches are not yet able to address these issues effectively and adequately. Our previous study proposed novel models to predict the PMSI and cause-of-death based on metabolites of blood from rats immersed in freshwater.

saponins (PNS), the primary medicinal ingredient of , mitigates cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) by inhibiting inflammation, regulating oxidative stress, promoting angiogenesis, and improving microcirculation. Moreover, PNS activates nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), which is known to inhibit ferroptosis and reduce inflammation in the rat brain. However, the molecular regulatory roles of PNS in CIRI-induced ferroptosis remain unclear.

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to investigate the efficacy of the CT-based peritoneal cancer index (PCI) to predict the overall survival of patients with peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer (GCPM) after two cycles of chemotherapy.

Methods: This retrospective study registered 112 individuals with peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer in our hospital. Abdominal and pelvic enhanced CT before and after chemotherapy was independently analyzed by two radiologists.

Background: Malformations of cortical development (MCD) are a group of congenital disorders characterized by structural abnormalities in the brain cortex. The clinical manifestations include refractory epilepsy, mental retardation, and cognitive impairment. Genetic factors play a key role in the etiology of MCD.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed the life cycle of Arma chinensis using geometrid pupae as food, focusing on how seasonal variations affected its growth, development, and reproductive success.
  • - Immature A. chinensis displayed longer stages and lower survival rates when reared on autumn and winter pupae, while those from summer and spring showed shorter durations and higher fecundity.
  • - Results indicate that A. chinensis has higher reproductive rates when fed during summer and autumn, which can be leveraged for improving biological control methods against E. grisescens in tea plantations.

The excitation-dependent emission properties of carbon dots (Cdots) are extensively reported, but their red emission is often weak, limiting their wider application. Here we introduce ethidium bromide, as a functional precursor with red emission, to enhance the red emission for Cdots, with comparable intensity at a broad wavelength range to multi-emission Cdots (M-Cdots). We found that Cdots prepared with ethidium bromide/ethylenediamine exhibited strong blue and red emission at 440 and 615 nm, with optimal excitation at 360 and 470 nm as M-Cdots, respectively, but the Cdots from single ethidium bromide (EB-Cdots) possessed weak red emission.

Daurisoline (DS) is an isoquinoline alkaloid that exerts anticancer activities in various cancer cells. However, the underlying mechanisms through which DS affects the survival of breast cancer cells remain poorly understood. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to investigate the potential anticancer effect of DS on breast cancer cells and reveal the mechanism underlying the enhanced tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-mediated apoptosis by DS.

  • This study evaluated early contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (ECE-MR) for detecting complete tumor response in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after neoadjuvant therapy.
  • Results showed that ECE-MR had a higher diagnostic accuracy (AUC 0.85) compared to traditional methods (T2WI+DWI with AUC 0.69) and was more effective for identifying early-stage tumors.
  • The findings suggest that ECE-MR could improve clinical decision-making and support tailored treatment strategies for patients undergoing therapy for esophageal cancer.

Recent studies have shown that nucleophagy can mitigate DNA damage by selectively degrading nuclear components protruding from the nucleus. However, little is known about the role of nucleophagy in neurons after spinal cord injury (SCI). Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence were performed to evaluate the nucleophagy after nuclear DNA damage and leakage in SCI neurons in vivo and NSC34 expression in primary neurons cultured with oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) in vitro, as well as the interaction and colocalization of autophagy protein LC3 with nuclear lamina protein Lamin B1.

Background: Flower color plays a crucial role in attracting pollinators and facilitating environmental adaptation. Investigating the causes of flower color polymorphism and understanding their potential effects on both ecology and genetics can enhance our understanding of flower color polymorphism in wild plant.

Results: In this study, we examined the differences of potential male and female fitness between purple- and yellow- flower individuals in Iris potaninii on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and screened key genes and positively selective genes involved in flower color change.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to estimate how much anhedonia (inability to feel pleasure) is present among adolescents and how it relates to experiences of childhood trauma (CT).
  • A sample of 1,745 adolescents aged 9 to 18 from various schools in economically developed cities in Southeastern China participated in surveys that assessed their levels of anhedonia, CT, and depression.
  • Results showed that CT, especially emotional and physical neglect, significantly predicted anhedonia in adolescents, with differences noted between genders, particularly in how emotional neglect affected girls more than boys.
