KIFC1 is a motor protein of the Kinesin family and it is involved in spindle apparatus assembly, chromosome arrangement, and microfilament-mediated biological processes in mitosis. However, the specific function of KIFC1 in pig oocytes remains unclear. Here, in order to explore the function of KIFC1 in porcine oocytes, the AZ82 inhibitor was used to inhibit the activity of KIFC1.

Loss of LRRK2 activity induces cytoskeleton defects and oxidative stress during porcine oocyte maturation.

Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) is a ROCO family member which its mutation is closely related with Parkinson's disease, and LRRK2 is widely involved into the regulation of autophagy, vesicle transport and neuronal proliferation. However, the roles of LRRK2 during mammalian oocyte maturation are still largely unclear. In present study, we disturbed the activity of LRRK2 and showed its essential roles in porcine oocytes.

Mutation of the SUMOylation site of Aurora-B disrupts spindle formation and chromosome alignment in oocytes.

Aurora-B is a kinase that regulates spindle assembly and kinetochore-microtubule (KT-MT) attachment during mitosis and meiosis. SUMOylation is involved in the oocyte meiosis regulation through promoting spindle assembly and chromosome segregation, but its substrates to support this function is still unknown. It is reported that Aurora-B is SUMOylated in somatic cells, and SUMOylated Aurora-B contributes the process of mitosis.

Deoxynivalenol exposure disturbs the cytoplasmic maturation in porcine oocytes.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is a secondary metabolite of Fusarium fungi and belonged to trichothecenes, and it widely presents in various food commodities. Previous studies have highlighted its potent toxicity, adversely affecting the growth, development, and reproductive in both humans and animals. However, the potential impact of DON on porcine oocyte organelles remains elusive.

Analysis of Spinal Pilocytic Astrocytoma in 12 Case Reports and Literature Review.

Spinal pilocytic astrocytoma (PA) is a rare disorder with atypical, clinical and imaging characteristics, and generally limited to case reports. We analysed the clinical manifestations, imaging findings, treatment and prognostic follow-up of 12 patients with spinal PA admitted from January 2010 to July 2021, and reviewed the relevant literature. Radiological assessment, especially magnetic resonance imaging, can help to provide effective diagnostic information.

Icariin protects testicular damage in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats through regulation of glycolysis pathway.

Objective: This study aims to investigate potential beneficial actions of icariin (ICA) on testicular spermatogenic function in male rats with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes and to explore the underlying mechanisms. ICA was found to reduce blood glucose, regulate the endocrine function of the reproductive system, and improve testicular spermatogenic function.

Methods: Adult rats were intraperitoneally injected with STZ (65 mg/kg) to induce type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).

HT-2 toxin impairs porcine oocyte in vitro maturation through disruption of endomembrane system.

HT-2 toxin is a type of mycotoxin which is shown to affect gastric and intestinal lesions, hematopoietic and immunosuppressive effects, anorexia, lethargy, nausea. Recently, emerging evidences indicate that HT-2 also disturbs the reproductive system. In this study, we investigated the impact of HT-2 toxin exposure on the organelles of porcine oocytes.

Benzo[a]pyrene exposure disrupts the organelle distribution and function of mouse oocytes.

Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compound that is generated during combustion processes, and is present in various substances such as foods, tobacco smoke, and burning emissions. BaP is extensively acknowledged as a highly carcinogenic substance to induce multiple forms of cancer, such as lung cancer, skin cancer, and stomach cancer. Recently it is shown to adversely affect the reproductive system.

Kinesin KIFC3 is essential for microtubule stability and cytokinesis in oocyte meiosis.

KIFC3 is a member of Kinesin-14 family motor proteins, which play a variety of roles such as centrosome cohesion, cytokinesis, vesicles transportation and cell proliferation in mitosis. Here, we investigated the functional roles of KIFC3 in meiosis. Our findings demonstrated that KIFC3 exhibited expression and localization at centromeres during metaphase I, followed by translocation to the midbody at telophase I throughout mouse oocyte meiosis.

Toxicity of the Mycotoxin Deoxynivalenol on Early Cleavage of Mouse Embryos by Fluorescence Intensity Analysis.

Deoxynivalenol is a mycotoxin, produced by Fusarium from contaminated corn, wheat, and other grains, that induces multiple effects in humans and animals, including cytotoxic, genotoxic, immunotoxic, and carcinogenic effects. Recent studies show that deoxynivalenol also affects the reproductive system of mammals, including oocyte quality. However, the effects of deoxynivalenol on early embryonic development have not been reported.

Aflatoxin B1 impairs porcine oocyte quality via disturbing intracellular membrane system and ATP production.

Aflatoxin is the most common type of mycotoxins in contaminated corn, peanuts and rice, which affects the livestock and ultimately endangers human health. Aflatoxin is reported to have carcinogenicity, mutation, growth retardation, immunosuppression and reproductive toxicity. In present study we reported the causes for the declined porcine oocyte quality under aflatoxin exposure.

Genome-wide identification of Brassicaceae histone modification genes and their responses to abiotic stresses in allotetraploid rapeseed.

Background: Histone modification is an important epigenetic regulatory mechanism and essential for stress adaptation in plants. However, systematic analysis of histone modification genes (HMs) in Brassicaceae species is lacking, and their roles in response to abiotic stress have not yet been identified.

Results: In this study, we identified 102 AtHMs, 280 BnaHMs, 251 BcHMs, 251 BjHMs, 144 BnHMs, 155 BoHMs, 137 BrHMs, 122 CrHMs, and 356 CsHMs in nine Brassicaceae species, respectively.

Analysis of preoperative influential factors and construction of a predictive nomogram of difficult thyroidectomy.

Objective: To explore the preoperative influential factors of difficult thyroidectomy and establish a preoperative nomogram for predicting the difficulty of thyroidectomy.

Methods: A total of 753 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy with central lymph node dissection between January 2018 and December 2021 were retrospectively enrolled in this study and randomly divided into training and validation groups at a ratio of 8:2. In both subgroups, the patients were divided into difficult thyroidectomy and nondifficult thyroidectomy groups based on the operation time.

Metabolomics profiling to characterize cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice.

Cerebral ischemia, resulting from compromised blood flow, is one of the leading causes of death worldwide with limited therapeutic options. Potential deleterious injuries resulting from reperfusion therapies remain a clinical challenge for physicians. This study aimed to explore the metabolomic alterations during ischemia-reperfusion injury by employing metabolomic analysis coupled with gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS) and ultraperformance liquid chromatography quadrupole (UPLC/Q)-TOF-MS.

Acrylamide Exposure Destroys the Distribution and Functions of Organelles in Mouse Oocytes.

Acrylamide (ACR) is a common industrial ingredient which is also found in foods that are cooked at high temperatures. ACR has been shown to have multiple toxicities including reproductive toxicity. Previous studies reported that ACR caused oocyte maturation defects through the induction of apoptosis and oxidative stress.

Effect of spermidine on ameliorating spermatogenic disorders in diabetic mice via regulating glycolysis pathway.

Diabetes mellitus (DM), a high incidence metabolic disease, is related to the impairment of male spermatogenic function. Spermidine (SPM), one of the biogenic amines, was identified from human seminal plasma and believed to have multiple pharmacological functions. However, there exists little evidence that reported SPM's effects on moderating diabetic male spermatogenic function.

Exposure to nonylphenol impairs oocyte quality via the induction of organelle defects in mice.

Nonylphenol (NP) is an environmental endocrine disruptor, which is mainly used in the production of surfactants, lubricants, additives, pesticides, and emulsifiers. NP is widely found in sewage and sludge, which has neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, metabolic toxicity and reproductive toxicity. In this study, we investigated the effects of NP exposure on mammalian oocyte quality from organelle aspects with mouse in vivo model.

[Correlation of single nucleotide polymorphisms of the osteopontin gene with astheozoospermia].

Objective: To investigate the correlation of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) rs1126772, rs117291487, rs11730582, rs142608941 and rs6813526 of the osteopontin (OPN) gene with the risk of asthenozoospermia (AZS).

Methods: We included 135 AZS patients in the AZS group and another 239 fertile men as normal controls. Using the SNaPshot technique, we genotyped the rs1126772, rs117291487, rs11730582, rs142608941 and rs6813526 polymorphisms of the OPN gene in all the subjects and analyzed the correlation of the five SNPs with AZS.
