Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) has a structure similar to heparan sulfate, which exerts anti‑inflammatory effects via inhibiting elastase (Ela) activity. Release of Ela along the glomerular capillary wall may induce glomerular injury and proteinuria. The present study aimed to investigate the influence of LMWH on steroid‑sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) and the potential underlying mechanism.

Reproductive effects of synthetic progestin norgestrel in zebrafish (Danio rerio).

The aim of this study was to assess the adverse effects of synthetic progestin norgestrel (NGT) on the reproduction of zebrafish by measuring the egg production, histology and transcriptional expression profiles along the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis in adult zebrafish. After a pre-exposure period of 7 days, adult zebrafish were exposed to 6, 29 and 69 ng L NGT for 21 days. The results showed that exposure to 69 ng L NGT led to a significant up-regulation of follicle stimulating hormone, beta polypeptide (fshb), luteinizing hormone, beta polypeptide (lhb), progesterone receptor (pgr), estrogen receptor 1 (esr1) and androgen receptor (ar) genes in the brains, as well as significant up-regulation of hydroxysteroid 20-beta dehydrogenase (hsd20b) and hydroxysteroid 11-beta dehydrogenase 2 (hsd11b2) genes and down-regulation of 11-beta-hydroxylase (cyp11b) gene in the ovaries of females.

Efficacy and safety of a reduced calcineurin inhibitor dose combined with mycophenolate mofetil in liver transplant patients with chronic renal dysfunction.

Calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs) are frequently given at a reduced dose in combination with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) to avoid nephrotoxicity, but the optimal reduction in CNI dose has not been established. In this prospective, open-label, multicenter study, liver transplant recipients with chronic renal dysfunction who were administered a CNI-based immunosuppressive regimen were included in the intent-to-treat (ITT) population. The primary endpoint was declination in renal function, which was defined as a ≥ 20% decrease in the glomerular filtration rate during the year following regimen adjustment.

A Comparative Analysis of Resource Utilization Between Proximal Row Carpectomy and Partial Wrist Fusion: A Population Study.

Purpose: We conducted a population-level analysis comparing proximal row carpectomy (PRC) and partial wrist arthrodesis (PWA) for treatment of chronic wrist arthritis to (1) characterize national practice patterns, (2) determine the rate of conversion to total wrist arthrodesis (TWA), and (3) calculate the associated direct cost of care.

Methods: Using the Truven MarketScan databases from 2009 to 2015, we identified patients 18 years or older with a diagnosis of wrist osteoarthritis who had a PRC or PWA and were followed for 18 months. We used Chi-square analysis and multivariable logistic regression to examine patient characteristics associated with conversion to a TWA.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association of donor and recipient SUMO4 rs237025 polymorphisms with NODM and the long-term consequences of NODM after LT.

Background: In the debate on reconstruction of the irradiated breast, there is little information on associated health care resource use. Nationwide data were used to examine health care resource use associated with implant and autologous reconstruction. It was hypothesized that failure rates would contribute the most to higher average cumulative cost with either reconstruction method.

Enhanced catalytic performance of a PdO catalyst prepared via a two-step method of in situ reduction-oxidation.

A supported PdO nanocatalyst prepared by a facile in situ reduction process followed by an oxidation step showed significantly enhanced activity for the removal of pollutants from natural gas vehicles. The excellent catalytic performance is mainly due to high dispersion of the uniform PdO nanoparticles generated during the novel two-step method.

Optical identification of sulfur vacancies: Bound excitons at the edges of monolayer tungsten disulfide.

Defects play a significant role in tailoring the optical properties of two-dimensional materials. Optical signatures of defect-bound excitons are important tools to probe defective regions and thus interrogate the optical quality of as-grown semiconducting monolayer materials. We have performed a systematic study of defect-bound excitons using photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy combined with atomically resolved scanning electron microscopy and first-principles calculations.

They were invited for follow-up vision examinations in the years 2011, 2012, and 2013, including cycloplegic (cyclopentolate 1%, three times) autorefraction.

In this study, we investigated the correlation between PD-L1 expression and KRAS mutation and the functional significance of PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in KRAS-mutant lung adenocarcinoma.

Purpose: To investigate the myopigenic activity change and its risk factors in urban students in Beijing.

Methods: A total of 241 primary or secondary students aged 6-17 years from the Beijing Myopia Progression Study (BMPS) were re-examined 3 years after their baseline enrollment. A detailed questionnaire was administered to assess myopigenic activities at both baseline and at the 3-year follow-up.

Photoluminescence Segmentation within Individual Hexagonal Monolayer Tungsten Disulfide Domains Grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition.

We show that hexagonal domains of monolayer tungsten disulfide (WS) grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with powder precursors can have discrete segmentation in their photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity, forming symmetric patterns with alternating bright and dark regions. Two-dimensional maps of the PL reveal significant reduction within the segments associated with the longest sides of the hexagonal domains. Analysis of the PL spectra shows differences in the exciton to trion ratio, indicating variations in the exciton recombination dynamics.

Exclusion criteria were history of trauma, vitreous hemorrhage, previous vitreoretinal surgery, diabetic retinopathy, endophthalmitis, acute retinal necrosis, single vitreous opacity, and use of antiplatelet agents.

Retrospective review of 536 consecutive RRD eyes that underwent vitrectomy surgery for retina repair from year 2008 to 2014. The retinal breaks were divided into superior, lateral (nasal, temporal, and macular), and inferior locations, according to the clock of breaks.
