Excessive tyrosinase expression leads to pigmented diseases in humans and browning in plants, necessitating effective tyrosinase inhibitors. This study investigated the inhibitory effect and mechanism of 7-hydroxycoumarin-3-carboxylic acid (7-HC-3-CA) on tyrosinase. Using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, we found that 7-HC-3-CA effectively inhibited tyrosinase activity, with an IC value of 364 ± 1.

Excess agricultural biomass waste is increasing rapidly, leading to many environmental and governance issues. Therefore, increased attention has been paid to the recycling and value-added application of agricultural biomass waste. In recent years, the research of agricultural biomass waste utilization and derived functional materials has mainly included the following two aspects: ① the extraction of natural polymers and value-added applications and ② the direct preparation of new carbon-based materials, including adsorption, catalysis, energy storage electrode, and composite functional materials.

Molecules with both aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) properties are potential organic light-emitting diode materials; however, the AIE and TADF mechanisms are still debatable. In this work, four molecules incorporating carbazole (), phenoxazine (), and phenothiazine () as donor groups to the diphenylsulfone acceptor were investigated. The experiment results indicate that a molecule containing exhibits solely TADF properties, whereas molecules containing and demonstrate both TADF and AIE characteristics.

Children on the autism spectrum have been shown to have immune dysregulation that often correlates with behavioral deficits. The role of the post-natal environment in this dysregulation is an area of active investigation. We examined the association between plasma levels of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) and immune cell function in age-matched autistic children and non-autistic controls.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to investigate the relationship between adipocyte fatty-acid binding protein (A-FABP) levels during pregnancy and glucolipid metabolism in women with pre-eclampsia.
  • A total of 76 pre-eclampsia patients (divided into mild and severe cases) and 48 healthy pregnant women were analyzed for various metabolic indices, including A-FABP, insulin, cholesterol, and triglycerides.
  • The results show that higher A-FABP levels in pre-eclampsia patients correlate with increased insulin resistance and lipid metabolism disorders, indicating that elevated A-FABP could contribute to the development of pre-eclampsia.

Panax ginseng is one of the famous rare medicinal herbs, and ginsenosides are the main active ingredient of ginseng is ginsenoside. They can be divided into three chemotypes: oleanane type, protopanaxadiol (PPD) type and the protopanaxatriol (PPT)type. Ginsenosides possess anti-thrombotic, anti-fatigue, anti-aging, cancer control, strengthening the immune system and many other effects.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how the addition of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) affects enzyme gene expression in ginseng hairy roots, focusing on the ginsenoside biosynthetic pathway.
  • - It was found that the optimal MeJA concentration is 6×10⁻⁴ μmol•L⁻¹, applied for 22 days with a peak effect seen at 5 days, which boosts the activity of several key enzymes.
  • - After MeJA treatment, significant increases in the expression of important biosynthetic pathway genes (SQS, SQE, OSC, DS, β-AS) were observed, correlating with enhanced enzymatic activity in the roots.

Background: Hyperthyroidism is the most common endocrine disorder observed in domestic felines; however, its etiology is largely unknown. Two classes of persistent organic pollutants, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are known to interfere with thyroid hormone (TH) signaling and regulation; thus, it is postulated that they contribute to the etiopathogenesis of feline hyperthyroidism and pose a risk to humans and other species. In this case-control study, the concentrations of 13 PBDE and 11 PCB congeners were measured by gas chromatography mass spectrometry in serum or plasma samples from 20 hyperthyroid and 31 control cats in order to investigate the association between concentration of PBDE and PCB congeners and feline hyperthyroidism.

Zinc finger nuclease, transcription activator-like effector nuclease, and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/Cas9 nuclease are important targeted genome editing technologies. They have great significance in scientific research and applications on aspects of functional genomics research, species improvement, disease prevention and gene therapy. There are past or ongoing disputes over ownership of the intellectual property behind every technology.

Background: Osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is the most common complication of osteoporosis, however, debate persists over which procedure of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) or balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) is a better treatment. We performed a metaanalysis of prospective, randomized controlled and clinical controlled trials of PVP and BKP to determine the efficacy and safety for the treatment of OVCFs to reach a relatively conclusive answer.

Materials And Methods: We searched computerized databases comparing efficacy and safety of PVP and BKP in osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.

Sensitive and reliable methods for simultaneous determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in limited volumes of human serum or plasma need to be further documented especially when they accumulate at low levels that are still capable of disrupting endocrine and immune functions, and affecting neurodevelopment and reproduction. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a sensitive and quantitative method that simultaneously quantifies PBDEs and PCBs in 0.5 ml of human serum or plasma.

Soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitors (sEHIs) are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-hypertensive, cardio- and renal-protective in multiple animal models. However, the earlier adamantyl-containing urea-based inhibitors are rapidly metabolized. Therefore, new potent inhibitors with the adamantyl group replaced by a substituted phenyl group were synthesized to presumptively offer better pharmacokinetic (PK) properties.

Few foods contain ergocalciferol or cholecalciferol. Treatment of mushrooms with UV light increases ergocalciferol content and could provide a dietary source of vitamin D. We evaluated the impact of consuming UV-treated white button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) on the vitamin D status of healthy adults.

The main purpose of this study was to illustrate the effect of borneol on pharmacokinetics of salvianolic acid B (SalB) in rats after oral administration of SalB with different doses of borneol. The concentrations of SalB in rat plasma were determined by an established and validated LC-MS/MS method. Our data showed that when 20, 40, and 80 mg kg⁻¹ of borneol were orally administrated with SalB at 50 mg kg⁻¹, C (max) of SalB was increased by 18.

  • The study aimed to investigate how bone quality correlates with levels of u-DPD (a marker of bone resorption) and serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (a form of vitamin D) in ovariectomized rats, which are a model for osteoporosis.
  • The research involved 40 female rats divided into two groups, with various measurements taken at 12 and 24 weeks post-operation, including bone mineral density, urine DPD levels, and serum vitamin D levels.
  • Results indicated that bone quality in the ovariectomy group was significantly lower compared to the sham group, showing negative correlations with urine DPD and positive correlations with vitamin D levels, suggesting these measurements can be used to predict
