The purpose of the present investigation was to develop and optimize the microemulsion (ME) as a transdermal system for Pd-Ia, a poor water soluble and low bioavailable drug. The pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were constructed for various ME formulations including oleic acid as the oil phase, Cremophor RH40 as the surfactant, ethanol as the cosurfactant, and water. The maximum cumulative amount permeated through rat abdominal skins per unit area in 32 h (Q32), and the maximum flux were evaluated using the Franz diffusion cell in order to optimize the ME formulation.

Ordered mesoporous carbon/g-C3N4 (OMC/g-C3N4) composites with efficient photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation were prepared by a facile heating method. The as-prepared OMC/g-C3N4 composites were thoroughly characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analyses, transmission electron microscopy with energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption analysis, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by degrading Rhodamine B dye, and OMC/g-C3N4 composites exhibited much higher photocatalytic activities than pristine g-C3N4.

This paper presents the theory and implementation of a novel sensor system for measuring the angular speed (AS) of a shaft rotating at a very low speed range, nearly zero speed. The sensor system consists mainly of an eccentric sleeve rotating with the shaft on which the angular speed to be measured, and an eddy current displacement sensor to obtain the profile of the sleeve for AS calculation. When the shaft rotates at constant speed the profile will be a pure sinusoidal trace.

Our first proteomic exploration of human chromosome 1 began in 2012 (CCPD 1.0), and the genome-wide characterization of the human proteome through public resources revealed that 32-39% of proteins on chromosome 1 remain unidentified. To characterize all of the missing proteins, we applied an OMICS-integrated analysis of three human liver cell lines (Hep3B, MHCC97H, and HCCLM3) using mRNA and ribosome nascent-chain complex-bound mRNA deep sequencing and proteome profiling, contributing mass spectrometric evidence of 60 additional chromosome 1 gene products.

This work investigates how to automatically parse object trajectories in surveillance videos, which aims at jointly solving three subproblems: 1) spatial segmentation, 2) temporal tracking, and 3) object categorization. We present a novel representation spatiotemporal graph (ST-Graph) in which: 1) Graph nodes express the motion primitives, each representing a short sequence of small-size patches over consecutive images, and 2) every two neighbor nodes are linked with either a positive edge or a negative edge to describe their collaborative or exclusive relationship of belonging to the same object trajectory. Phrasing the trajectory parsing as a graph multicoloring problem, we propose a unified probabilistic formulation to integrate various types of context knowledge as informative priors.

Mitochondria are the primary organelles that consume oxygen and provide energy for cellular activities. To investigate the mitochondrial mechanisms underlying adaptation to extreme oxygen conditions, we generated Drosophila strains that could survive in low- or high-oxygen environments (LOF or HOF, respectively), examined their mitochondria at the ultrastructural level via transmission electron microscopy, studied the activity of their respiratory chain complexes, and quantitatively analyzed the protein abundance responses of the mitochondrial proteomes using Isobaric tag for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ). A total of 718 proteins were identified with high confidence, and 55 and 75 mitochondrial proteins displayed significant differences in abundance in LOF and HOF, respectively, compared with the control flies.

Objective: To investigate the surgical techniques and appropriate perioperative management for ensuring successful orthotopic liver transplantation (ROLT) in rats.

Methods: Based on the double-cuff technique of Kamada, we modified the surgical techniques of separation, perfusion and cold preservation of the donor liver, shearing and anastomosis of the suprahepatic vena cava with optimized postoperative infusion protocols and animal care.

Embryogenesis is the initial step in a plant's life, and the molecular changes that occur during embryonic development are largely unknown. To explore the relevant molecular events, we used the isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) coupled with the shotgun proteomics technique (iTRAQ/Shotgun) to study the proteomic changes of rice embryos during embryogenesis. For the first time, a total of 2 165 unique proteins were identified in rice embryos, and the abundances of 867 proteins were actively changed based on the statistical evaluation of the quantitative MS/MS signals.

Although bone morphogenetic protein-6 (BMP-6) has been identified as a tumor suppressor associated with breast cancer differentiation and metastasis, the potential roles of BMP-6 in regulating cell cycle progression have not been fully examined. In the present study, we provide the novel finding that induction of BMP-6 in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells significantly inhibits cell proliferation by decreasing the number of cells in S phase of the cell cycle, resulting in inhibition of tumorigenesis in a nude mouse xenograft model. Further investigation indicated that BMP-6 up-regulates the expression of microRNA-192 (miR-192) in MDA-MB-231 cells.
