Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) are disproportionately affected by HIV, and oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can reduce HIV acquisition. The purpose of this scoping review was to synthesize results from interventions along the PrEP continuum for AGYW to inform research and programs. The DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-Free, Mentored, and Safe) Partnership, a public-private partnership launched by the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), represents the largest investment in comprehensive HIV prevention for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) ever made in a single global initiative. This paper describes the evolution of programming over time using the triangulation of multiple data sources to develop and refine an impactful program, as well as to improve efficacy and resource investment. Methods of analysis used to evolve this programming include reviews of literature on behavioral, biomedical and structural interventions, and HIV vulnerability; PEPFAR program data; external implementation science and impact studies;observations from site visits; in-depth reviews of program materials; and inputs from AGYW and other stakeholders.

The 3 most common causes of visual impairment and legal blindness in developed countries (age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy) share 1 end point: the loss of neural cells of the eye. Although recent treatment advances can slow down the progression of these conditions, many individuals still suffer irreversible loss of vision. Research is aimed at developing new treatment strategies to rescue damaged photoreceptors and retinal ganglion cells (RGC) and to replace lost cells by transplant.

Scanning tunneling microscopy and core level photoelectron spectroscopy measurements have been used to investigate the morphology of ZnO(0001 macro)-O, and its reactivity with carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, as a function of surface preparation. Real space images of the surface indicate that increasing the substrate anneal temperature during preparation significantly reduces the surface step density. Surface defect concentration is also monitored by employing formic acid as a chemical probe, which is shown to adsorb dissociatively (HCOOH --> [HCOO](-) + H(+)) only on zinc cations at step edges.

Background: A T-cell-mediated immune response may be responsible for the enteropathy seen in coeliac disease (CD), but it is unclear whether this is initiated in the epithelium or the lamina propria. We studied the site and number of cells expressing mRNA encoding the cytokines interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-6, and tumour necrosis factor-alpha in jejunal biopsy specimens from patients with untreated or treated CD and normal controls.

Methods: Tissue sections were hybridized with 35S-labelled DNA oligonucleotide probes specific for each cytokine RNA sequence.

We assessed the feasibility of using lymphokine-activated killer cells (adoptive immunotherapy) with infusions of interleukin-2 when given regionally in three patients with unresectable primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHC). In 2 patients, 2 cycles, which included a bolus of LAK (10(7) to 10(8) cells followed by a 4-hourly infusion of IL-2 were administered via selective arterial catheterization of the hepatic artery. One further patient received 3 cycles of IL-2 alone by direct intralesional and perilesional injections.
