Shenhua compound, composed of ginseng, hawthorn and sophora flower, has been shown to improve hyperlipidemia. However, the main ingredients, their metabolic pathways in vivo, and pharmacokinetic characteristics. In this study, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadruple time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF) was used to qualitatively analyze the main ingredients in ethanol extract of Shenhua compound and to investigate the metabolites in serum, bile, feces, and urine of rats following oral administration.

Effectiveness of expressive writing therapy for postpartum women with psychological distress: Meta-analysis and narrative review.

Background: The increasing prevalence of psychological distress among mothers is outpacing the effectiveness of conventional coping methods like cognitive behavioral therapy. The efficacy of alternatives such as writing therapy for maternal psychological well-being remains uncertain due to a lack of extensive research and inconsistent findings.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of expressive writing therapy in comparison to standard postpartum care for alleviating psychological distress, encompassing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or stress, in postpartum women.

Intrinsic functional brain connectivity in adolescent anxiety: Associations with behavioral phenotypes and cross-syndrome network features.

Background: Considerable research has mapped the human brain networks implicated in anxiety. Yet, less is known about the intrinsic features of the brain implicated in adolescent anxiety and their generalizability to affective and behavioral problems. To this end, we investigated the intrinsic functional connectomes associated with anxiety, their associations with behavioral phenotypes of clinical interest, and the cross-syndrome overlap between the anxiety network and other affective syndromes in an adolescent sample.

Preliminary insights: exploring irrigation practices during endodontic treatment among general dental practitioners in Malaysia.

Objective(s) This questionnaire study aimed to analyse the irrigation knowledge and current trends in irrigation practice during endodontic treatment among general dental practitioners (GDPs) in Malaysia.Materials and methods A three-part, self-administered questionnaire with multiple-choice questions was distributed to dentists in Malaysia. The survey comprised three sections: demographic data; irrigant selection and protocol; and other irrigation practices.

Predictive factors for interstitial lung disease progression in a Singapore systemic sclerosis cohort: a multicentre study.

Introduction: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) in systemic sclerosis (SSc) is heterogeneous with varied progression rate. This study aimed to identify the baseline clinical characteristics associated with ILD progression within 1, 3 and 5 years of the diagnosis of ILD.

Methods: This was a prospective, multicentre study - Systematic Sclerosis Cohort Singapore - conducted from January 2008 to February 2021, which included SSc patients with ILD diagnosed by high-resolution computed tomography.

While neurovascular research has primarily centered on the front end of hyperemia-neuronal activity-to-vascular response-the mechanical consequences of hyperemia have gone largely unexplored.

Gut Microbiota in Patients Receiving Dialysis: A Review.

The human gut microbiota constitutes a complex community of microorganisms residing within the gastrointestinal tract, encompassing a vast array of species that play crucial roles in health and disease. The disease processes involved in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) are now increasingly established to result in dysregulation of gut microbiota composition and function. Gut microbiota dysbiosis has been associated with poor clinical outcomes and all-cause mortality in patients with ESKD, particularly individuals receiving dialysis.

Factors influencing healthcare providers' behaviours in deprescribing: a cross-sectional study.

Introduction: Deprescribing serves as a pivotal measure to mitigate the drug-related problem due to polypharmacy. This study aimed to map the factors influencing healthcare providers' deprescribing decision using the Behaviour Change Wheel framework and develop an innovative conceptual model to support deprescribing practice.

Methods: A cross-sectional online survey targeting doctors and pharmacists was conducted to assess the influence of various factors on healthcare providers' comfort in recommending deprescribing.

Efficient protein extraction for assessing food allergy risk in complex alternative protein matrices.

Allergy to novel food proteins, due to diverse ingredients and innovative food processing technologies employed to achieve desired functional properties, is a major safety concern. Current allergy testing methods (ELISA and mass spectrometry) depend on high-quality protein extracts, meaning existing methods are often tailored to specific matrices. Therefore, a more efficient and general protein extraction method is desirable for comprehensive allergy risk assessment.

mTOR signalling controls the formation of smooth muscle cell-derived luminal myofibroblasts during vasculitis.

The accumulation of myofibroblasts within the intimal layer of inflamed blood vessels is a potentially catastrophic complication of vasculitis, which can lead to arterial stenosis and ischaemia. In this study, we have investigated how these luminal myofibroblasts develop during Kawasaki disease (KD), a paediatric vasculitis typically involving the coronary arteries. By performing lineage tracing studies in a murine model of KD, we reveal that luminal myofibroblasts develop independently of adventitial fibroblasts and endothelial cells, and instead derive from smooth muscle cells (SMCs).

Background: Evidence suggests that the corpus cavernosum smooth muscle (CCSM) cells of several species, including humans, express purinergic P2X receptors, but it is not known if the corpus cavernosum has an excitatory purinergic innervation.

Aim: In this study we aimed to determine if the mouse CCSM has a functional purinergic innervation.

Methods: Mouse CCSM myocytes were enzymatically isolated and studied using the perforated patch configuration of the patch clamp technique.

Targeting aging with urolithin A in humans: A systematic review.

Urolithin A (UA) is a gut metabolite derived from ellagic acid. This systematic review assesses the potential geroprotective effect of UA in humans. In five studies including 250 healthy individuals, UA (10-1000 mg/day) for a duration ranging from 28 days to 4 months, showed a dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effect and upregulated some mitochondrial genes, markers of autophagy, and fatty acid oxidation.

Patent foramen ovale closure in ischemic stroke patients with and without thrombophilia: a systematic review and meta-analyses.

Ischemic stroke patients with thrombophilia and patient foramen ovale (PFO) may have an increased risk of recurrent stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA), and may benefit from PFO closure. However, screening for thrombophilia is not routinely performed and the impact of thrombophilia on prognosis after PFO closure is uncertain. We aim to compare the risk of recurrent stroke and TIA after PFO closure in patients with thrombophilia versus those without.

Aim: Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) dysfunction resulting from stenosis or occlusion, is a prevalent issue in end-stage renal failure patients reliant on autogenous AVFs for dialysis. Recently, a distal transradial approach (dTRA) has emerged, offering advantages such as diminished access site complications, better patient comfort and reduced risk of radial artery occlusion. Our study seeks to assess the effectiveness, outcomes and complication rates of employing dTRA for arteriovenous fistuloplasty in Singaporean patients.

Understanding consumers' continuous-use intention of crowdsourcing logistics services: Empirical evidence from China.

Crowdsourcing logistics-based O2O (online to offline) has been increasingly implemented to help individuals or merchants tackle down the problem of intra city instant delivery in China. However, since insufficient control is imposed on free couriers, consumers are subjected to certain risks generated by the uneven service quality provided by free couriers, such that the continuous-use intention to adopt crowdsourcing logistics may be affected in an unexpected manner. A sampling survey was carried out in China's first- and second-tier cities, with 292 valid questionnaires collected.

Potent Immunomodulators Developed from an Unstable Bacterial Metabolite of Vitamin B2 Biosynthesis.

Bacterial synthesis of vitamin B2 generates a by-product, 5-(2-oxopropylideneamino)-d-ribityl-aminouracil (5-OP-RU), with potent immunological properties in mammals, but it is rapidly degraded in water. This natural product covalently bonds to the key immunological protein MR1 in the endoplasmic reticulum of antigen presenting cells (APCs), enabling MR1 refolding and trafficking to the cell surface, where it interacts with T cell receptors (TCRs) on mucosal associated invariant T lymphocytes (MAIT cells), activating their immunological and antimicrobial properties. Here, we strategically modify this natural product to understand the molecular basis of its recognition by MR1.

The effectiveness of pharmacist-led educational model in adult patients with allergic rhinitis: a single-center randomized control trial protocol (AR-PRISE RCT).

Background: Allergic rhinitis is a chronic respiratory disorder that significantly impacts patients' quality of life (QoL) and work performance. Pharmacists are recognized as suitable professionals to provide patient education and pharmaceutical care for managing allergic rhinitis patients. However, local clinical practice guidelines, particularly regarding pharmaceutical care in public healthcare institutions, are lacking.
