Application of a Customised Franz-Type Cell Coupled with HPTLC to Monitor the Timed Release of Bioactive Components in Complex Honey Matrices.

The aim of this study was to assess the release profile of components in five different honeys (a New Zealand Manuka and two Western Australian honeys, a Jarrah honey and a Coastal Peppermint honey) and their corresponding honey-loaded gel formulations using a custom-designed Franz-type diffusion cell in combination with High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). To validate the suitability of the customised setup, release data using this new approach were compared with data obtained using a commercial Franz cell apparatus, which is an established analytical tool to monitor the release of active ingredients from topical semisolid products. The release profiles of active compounds from pure honey and honey-loaded formulations were found to be comparable in both types of Franz cells.

Anthroponotic transmission was reported early, with confirmed infections reported in 26 species to date, including dogs and cats. However, there is a paucity of reports on the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 to companion animals, and thus, we aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in dogs and cats in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Clinical care pathway to detect advanced liver disease in patients with type 2 diabetes through automated fibrosis score calculation and electronic reminder messages: a randomised controlled trial.

Objective: We aimed to test the hypothesis that automated fibrosis score calculation and electronic reminder messages could increase the detection of advanced liver disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Design: In this pragmatic randomised controlled trial at five general medical or diabetes clinics in Hong Kong and Malaysia, we randomly assigned patients in a 1:1 ratio to the intervention group with Fibrosis-4 index and aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index automatically calculated based on routine blood tests, followed by electronic reminder messages to alert clinicians of abnormal results, or the control group with usual care. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients with increased fibrosis scores who received appropriate care (referred for hepatology care or specific fibrosis assessment) within 1 year.

LQR approach to robust stabilization of state space systems with matched uncertainties.

This note shows an elegant relationship between the quadratic optimal control and robust stabilization for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems, where the former control can robustly stabilize the latter system, provided that the matched uncertainty is bounded. Through reviewing the relevant literature, some common mistakes in regard to this relationship are found. The correct results are obtained and proved in both frequency and time domains.

Endobronchial obstruction in connective tissue diseases: an uncommon but life threatening complication: two case reports.

Background: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis and relapsing polychondritis are rare, multisystemic and potentially life-threatening connective tissue diseases. We present two cases of severe endobronchial obstruction in the aforementioned conditions and discuss difficulties with detection and treatment. Despite differing underlying pathophysiologies, endobronchial disease is a less frequently reported but serious complication of both conditions.

Choosing Wisely: The Canadian Rheumatology Association Pediatric Committee's List of Items Physicians and Patients Should Question.

Objective: To develop a list of tests or treatments frequently used in pediatric rheumatology practice that may be unnecessary based on existing evidence.

Methods: A Choosing Wisely (CW) working group composed of 16 pediatric rheumatologists, 1 allied health professional, 1 parent, and 1 patient used the Delphi method to generate, rank, and refine a list of tests and treatments that may be unnecessary or harmful. The items with the highest content agreement and perceived impact were presented in a survey to all Canadian Rheumatology Association (CRA) physicians who practice pediatric rheumatology.

Real-world evidence on health-related quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using sulphonylureas: An analysis of the Joint Asia Diabetes Evaluation (JADE) Register.

Methods: This retrospective, cross-sectional analysis included adults with T2DM from 11 Asian countries/regions prospectively enrolled in the Joint Asian Diabetes Evaluation (JADE) Register (2007-2019) with available EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D-3L) data.

Results: Of 47,895 included patients, 42,813 were treated with OGLDs + lifestyle modifications (LSM) and 5,082 with LSM only.

Global prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the leading cause of chronic liver disease, with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as a major predictor. Insulin resistance and chronic inflammation are key pathways in the pathogenesis of T2DM leading to NAFLD and vice versa, with the synergistic effect of NAFLD and T2DM increasing morbidity and mortality risks. This meta-analysis aims to quantify the prevalence of NAFLD and the prevalence of clinically significant and advanced fibrosis in people with T2DM.

Obstructed Hemivagina Ipsilateral Renal Agenesis (OHVIRA) Syndrome-A Retrospective Cohort Analysis of the Sabah Population.

Objectives: The objectives of the study were to compare the demographic characteristics, presenting complaints, timeliness of diagnosis, and treatments given to all patients diagnosed with obstructive hemivagina ipsilateral renal agenesis (OHVIRA) between the adolescent group (age 10-19) and the adult group (age 20 and above) and to propose a feasible screening test consisting of routine bedside ultrasound to detect renal anomalies in addition to pelvic ultrasound during the assessment of females with gynecologic complications in resource-limited settings.

We hypothesized that macrophages can be activated by tumor-derived nucleic acids to induce inflammasome activation in the tumor microenvironment. We show that tumor conditioned media (CM) can induce IL-1β production, indicative of inflammasome activation in primed macrophages.
