To investigate the association between sociodemographic factors and variables related to oral health services in oral and oropharyngeal cancer mortality in Brazil, between 2000 and 2019. This study had an ecological design. Standardized mortality rates were compared between age group, sex, and regions.

Melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy of the jaw bones: Update on the factors influencing survival and recurrence.

The aim of the present study was to integrate the available data published on melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI) of the jaw bones. An electronic search was undertaken in April 2018. Hundred forty-seven publications and 371 patients were included.

Nuclear metallothionein in oral squamous cell carcinoma: clinicopathological parameters and patient survival.

The aim of this study was to identify the immunoexpression of methallothionein in oral squamous cell carcinoma as well as to address the correlation with clinical features, histological grade and patient survival. Samples were collected from 93 patients with tongue squamous cell carcinoma who presented for follow-up. Immunohistochemical expression of methallothionein in all groups was performed.

Avascular necrosis of the jaws as initial presentation of acute leukemia.

Leukemia is a malignant neoplasm of hematologic origin occurring from disorganized proliferation or increased life span of white cells. The initial manifestations of leukemia are generally signs of bone marrow failure, such as pallor, fatigue, fever, bleeding, and infection related to peripheral blood cytopenias. Few reports have described osteonecrosis, especially in the femoral head, as an initial manifestation of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Severe oral manifestation of dengue viral infection: a rare clinical description.

Dengue infection is one of the most common mosquito-borne viral diseases of humans worldwide, representing a significant public health problem in over 100 tropical countries where its primary vector Aedes aegypti occurs. Although the disease is frequently limited to an abrupt febrile illness, it may also cause significant morbidity and if not adequately treated, mortality. Therefore, it requires a correct and early diagnosis.

Nonendodontic lesions misdiagnosed as apical periodontitis lesions: series of case reports and review of literature.

Introduction: This study aimed to analyze cases referred from a reference service in oral pathology that were initially misdiagnosed as periapical lesions of endodontic origin and to perform a review of the literature regarding lesions located in the apical area of teeth with a nonendodontic source.

Methods: A survey was made of clinical cases derived from the service of oral pathology from 2002 to 2012. The pertinent literature was also reviewed using ScienceDirect and PubMed databases.

Periodontal growth in areas of vascular malformation in patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome: a management protocol.

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a very rare condition characterized by abnormal vascular formations that encompass several manifestations: cutaneous, neurologic, ocular, and oral. Neurologic conditions are the most important factor, especially epilepsy, which frequently leads patients to make use of anticonvulsants. These drugs are capable of inducing abnormal tissue growth in the oral cavity that can be situated over areas with vascular malformation, requiring special attention by the clinician.

Luxation injuries in primary teeth: a retrospective study in children assisted at an emergency service.

The purpose of this study was to analyze luxation injuries in children between the ages of 0 and 5 years treated at an emergency service department. A total of 1,703 records, corresponding to a period of 10 years at the Emergency Center of the Baby Clinic at Londrina State University, Brazil, were analyzed. The age, gender, etiologic factors, type of injury, injured teeth, treatment and time interval between injury and treatment were determined for each patient.
