Influence of Fungal Colonization on Exacerbations in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis.

The importance of fungal pathogens in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and their diagnosis remains a challenge, so our aim was to analyze the influence of the detection of fungi in sputum by using conventional culture and molecular techniques, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), lateral flow devices (LFDs), and galactomannan (GM) on exacerbations in patients with cystic fibrosis. A prospective study was conducted in patients via follow-up in the CF Unit of the Central University Hospital of Asturias from January 2021 to April 2022. Adult patients with at least one documented exacerbation were included.

COVID-19-Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis in a Tertiary Hospital.

Our study aims to assess the prevalence of CAPA (COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis) and describe the associated risk factors and their impact on mortality. A prospective study was conducted. We included patients with COVID-19 disease who were admitted to the ICU with a diagnosis of respiratory failur.

Assessment of risk scores in Covid-19.

Objective: To analyse the accuracy of commonly used risk scores (PSI and CURB-65) in predicting mortality and need for ICU admission in Covid-19.

Material And Methods: Prospective study of patients diagnosed with Covid-19 pneumonia. Patients were followed until home discharge or death.

Clinical Impact of a Pleural Unit in a Tertiary Level Hospital.

Introduction: Pleural disease involves a large number of admissions and long hospital stays. In order to improve this situation, a Pleural Unit (PU) was created in our hospital. Our aim was to analyze the clinical impact of this unit.

Severe asthma and bronchiectasis.

The aim of our study was to determine the tomographic findings and prevalence of bronchiectasis in our population of patients with severe asthma, and to identify factors associated with the presence of bronchiectasis in these patients. We retrospectively collected data from the medical histories of patients referred to the asthma unit of our hospital, with a diagnosis of severe asthma between 2015 and 2017. Patients with ABPA, cystic fibrosis, immunodeficiency or systemic disease were excluded.
