Background: The purpose of this study was to determine patient-specific risk factors and clinical intervention rates for abnormal postoperative Chem-7 panels in shoulder arthroplasty patients.
Methods: Retrospectively, all primary anatomic total (aTSA) and reverse shoulder (RTSA) arthroplasties (between 2007-2013) performed at a single institution were identified. All patients underwent routine preoperative and postoperative day one (POD1) chemistry panels.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn the winter of 1996-1997 ergot was observed in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) plants growing in several locations of Tamaulipas, Mexico, including San Fernando, Soto La Marina, Manuel, Cuahutemoc, and Altamira. The disease in sorghum plants was associated with high humidity and low temperatures during the blooming stage in February, 1997. The most obvious symptom was the exudation of honeydew from the infected flowers.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSeventy-two post-mortem samples of mainly tracheal tissue from commercial chickens from 25 commercial chicken flocks with suspected infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) were examined for the presence of the virus using direct electron microscopy (EM), virus isolation (VI) in primary chick embryo liver cell culture and a DNA amplification method (polymerase chain reaction; PCR). ILT virus was identified in 22 outbreaks, and in 58 of the 72 specimens. PCR detected virus in 52 of the 72 specimens and VI was positive in 48.
