Cervical cancer, often driven by high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections such as HPV16 or HPV18, remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. HPV16, found in about 90% of cervical cancer patients, harbors key oncogenic related genes (E6, E7, E2, E5) and an upstream regulatory region (URR) that contribute to cancer progression. This study introduces a novel approach using a recombinant oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) named SONC103, armed with a CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system.

Thiram (THI) and asomate (ASO) are frequently detected agrochemicals in food samples due to widespread use as fungicides. However, their detection suffers from matrix interference, or the necessity of derivatization before measurement. Integrating HPLC with a post-column carbon dots (CDs)-enhanced chemiluminescence (CL) system makes it possible to simultaneously separate and selectively detect ASO and THI in fruit samples free of derivatization and deep purification.

Rationale: Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a rare neurodegenerative disorder with highly variable clinical manifestations, making diagnosis challenging. Recent advancements in genetic and pathological testing, such as the identification of GGC repeat expansions in the NOTCH2NLC gene, have improved diagnostic accuracy, but familial cases remain underreported.

Patient Concerns: This report details 3 cases of familial adult-onset NIID in 2 sisters and 1 brother.

Article Synopsis
  • Oncolytic virotherapy is a new cancer treatment strategy that uses modified viruses to trigger immune responses specifically against tumors, like the novel oncolytic virus (oHSV1-IL15B) developed from herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) for colon cancer treatment.
  • In experiments with mice, oHSV1-IL15B demonstrated significant tumor-fighting effects, especially when combined with another oncolytic virus (oHSV-1-aPD1), resulting in better tumor inhibition and longer survival rates compared to using these treatments alone.
  • The study revealed that the combination therapies increased the presence of key immune cells (CD8 and CD4 T cells) and improved the tumor's immune environment, suggesting that combining

Endocervical adenocarcinoma (ECA) is reported increasingly often in young women, and this aggressive disease lacks effective methods of targeted therapy. Since mismatch repair deficiency (dMMR) is an important biomarker for predicting response to immune checkpoint inhibitors, it is important to investigate the clinicopathological features and immune microenvironment of dMMR ECAs. We assessed 617 ECAs from representative tissue microarray sections, gathered clinicopathologic information, reviewed histological characteristics, and performed immunohistochemical staining for MMR, programmed cell death 1 (PD-L1), and other immune markers.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is a viable therapeutic option for women diagnosed locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). However, the factors influencing pathological response are still controversial. We collected pair specimens of 185 LACC patients before and after receiving NACT and conducted histological evaluation.

In this study, S-methyl derivatives of dithiocarbamates (DTCs) were shown to significantly enhance chemiluminescence (CL) between Ce(IV) and efficient and environmentally friendly nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs). Based on the elucidation of the CL mechanisms, an innovative approach involving high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with N-CDs and CL detection (HPLC-CDCL) was proposed. The developed method was successfully applied to the highly sensitive detection of three DTC fungicides (dimethyl dithiocarbamate, ethylene bisdithiocarbamate, and propylene bisdithiocarbamate) in tea.

This study investigated the synergistic potential of an oncolytic herpes simplex virus armed with interleukin 12 (VT1092M) in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors for enhancing antitumor responses. The potential of this combination treatment to induce systemic antitumor immunity was assessed using bilateral subcutaneous tumor and tumor re-challenge mouse models. The antitumor efficacy of various OV and ICI treatment combinations and the underlying mechanisms were explored through diverse analytical techniques, including flow cytometry and RNA sequencing.

Disrupted mitochondrial dynamics and mitophagy contribute to functional deterioration of skeletal muscle (SM) during aging, but the regulatory mechanisms are poorly understood. Our previous study demonstrated that the expression of thyroid hormone receptor α (TRα) decreased significantly in aged mice, suggesting that the alteration of thyroidal elements, especially the decreased TRα, might attenuate local THs action thus to cause the degeneration of SM with aging, while the underlying mechanism remains to be further explored. In this study, decreased expression of myogenic regulators Myf5, MyoD1, mitophagy markers Pink1, LC3II/I, p62, as well as mitochondrial dynamic factors Mfn1 and Opa1, accompanied by increased reactive oxygen species (ROS), showed concomitant changes with reduced TRα expression in aged mice.

Background And Aims: Sarcopenia is a common disease in the elderly, and the thyroid hormone (TH) might participate in the pathogenesis of sarcopenia. However, the results of previous studies were not completely consistent. We performed this study to investigate the association between THs and sarcopenia in a Chinese elderly euthyroid population.

Multi-physics coupling, composed of an intense THz laser and electric field, serves as a new approach to realize the ultrahigh-level enhancement on third-harmonic generation (THG) of cubic quantum dots (CQDs). The exchange of quantum states caused by anticrossing of intersubbands is demonstrated by the Floquet method and finite difference method with the increasing laser-dressed parameter and electric field. The results show that the rearrangement of the quantum states excites the THG coefficient of CQDs four orders of magnitude higher than that achieved with a single physical field.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of Edaravone Dexborneol (ED) on impaired learning and memory in docetaxel (DTX)-treated rats using cognitive behavior assessments and magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).

Materials And Methods: In total, 24 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control, low-dose DTX (L-DTX) model, and high-dose DTX(H-DTX) model groups, with eight rats in each group, numbered 1-8. The rats were intraperitoneally injected with 1.

Endocervical adenocarcinoma (ECA), harboring poor prognosis, is divided into human papilloma virus (HPV)-associated adenocarcinoma (HPVA) and non-HPVA (NHPVA), each consisting of a heterogeneous immune microenvironment. We aim to examine the effect of CKLF-like MARVEL transmembrane domain 6 (CMTM6), a key regulator of PD-L1, on ECA. Immunohistochemistry and RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) were used to detect CMTM6, Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), and immune cells biomarkers levels in tumors.
