Malignant primary cardiac tumors: review of a single institution experience.

Background: Primary cardiac sarcomas are uncommon. The authors undertook to review the Mayo Clinic's experience with primary cardiac sarcomas consisting of 34 patients seen over a 32-year period.

Methods: The patient database at the Mayo Clinic was searched to identify patients with malignant tumors of the heart seen during the 32-year period between 1975 and 2007.

Effectiveness of second line salvage chemotherapy with ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide in patients with relapsed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma not responding to cis-platinum, cytosine arabinoside, and dexamethasone.

DHAP (dexamethasone, cytosine arabinoside and cis-platinum) is a commonly used regimen for relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The optimal treatment for patients who do not respond to DHAP, but are still potential candidates for autologous stem cell transplantation, is unclear. One option is to proceed with an alternative chemotherapy regimen such as ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide (ICE).

Recurrent glioblastoma multiforme: advances in treatment and promising drug candidates.

Recurrent glioblastoma multiforme is a lethal disease with currently available treatment options having a limited impact on outcome. In this article, current and novel therapeutic approaches in the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, including chemotherapy, targeted molecular agents, virotherapy/gene therapy and immunotherapy and challenges in developing novel therapeutic agents for glioblastoma multiforme will be discussed.

Renal medullary carcinoma and ABL gene amplification.

Purpose: We characterized the clinical course of renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) and performed an expanded analysis of BCR-ABL.

Materials And Methods: The literature was searched for all reports of RMC. New cases at Northwestern University are described and relevant clinical information was abstracted.
