Article Synopsis
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a serious cancer with late diagnosis and poor outcomes; this study focused on creating a gene signature to improve prognosis prediction.
  • Using machine learning on multiple patient cohorts, researchers identified 119 key genes, narrowing it down to a four-gene signature that effectively predicts survival and treatment response.
  • The study establishes the HCC prognosis-related gene signature (HPRGS) as a valuable tool for guiding treatment decisions and improving survival rates in HCC patients.

Background: To evaluate the value of locoregional radiation therapy (LRRT) in de novo metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (mNPC) and identify suitable candidates for additional LRRT after palliative chemotherapy (PCT).

Methods: Patients with de novo mNPC received platinum-based chemotherapy for a minimum of four cycles with or without definitive LRRT via intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) were all candidates for this study.

Results: A total of 168 patients were included for this analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • A study of Erythrophleum fordii plantations in Guangxi examined carbon storage, finding that carbon content was highest in stems and decreased in other plant organs (branches, roots, bark, and leaves).
  • The carbon storage in the tree layer increased with the age of the plantation, with values of 21.8, 100.0, and 121.6 tons per hectare for 7-, 29-, and 32-year-old trees, respectively, while soil carbon decreased with depth but increased as the plantation aged.
  • Overall, the arbor and soil layers were identified as the primary carbon pools, together holding over 97% of the ecosystems' total carbon storage,
