Hybrid lateral closed-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HBHTO) carries certain advantages over medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO). We investigated the potential difference in the required correction angle between HBHTO and OWHTO to achieve an equal amount of whole lower-extremity alignment correction, retrospectively analyzing the preoperative plain radiographic images of 100 patients. The medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA), joint line convergence angle (JLCA), mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (mLDFA), hip-knee-ankle axis (HKA), length of the tibia, width of the tibial plateau, length of the lower limb (leg length), and location of the center of deformity (CD) were measured.

This study aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of the highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid-LBSA0103-in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) as per the prescribing information (PI) in South Korea. A total of 3,140 subjects aged ≥19 years were enrolled in this post-marketing surveillance (PMS) study from 2013 to 2019. The subjects received one or two injections of LBSA0103.

Three-dimensional analysis of lateral cortical hinge in medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy: A computational simulation study of adult cadavers.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to improve the three-dimensional (3D) understanding of optimal lateral cortical hinge in medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) via a computational cadaveric simulation of actual size.

Methods: The computed tomography data of 117 adult cadavers were imported into Mimics® software to design 3D models of tibia and fibula. To simulate the MOWTHO, a virtual cutting plane was developed inside the safe zone based on established landmarks.

Effect of chronic kidney disease on outcomes of total joint arthroplasty: a meta-analysis.

Background: This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the differences in preoperative comorbidities, postoperative mortality, the rate of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), and revision rate after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) between patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD)(CKD group) and patients with normal kidney function (non-CKD group).

Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for studies assessing the effect of CKD on TJA outcome. This meta-analysis included studies that (1) compared the outcomes of TJA between the CKD and non-CKD groups; (2) compared the outcomes of TJA based on CKD stage; and (3) evaluated the risk factors for morbidity or mortality after TJA.

Effects of Oxysterols on Chondrogenesis of Human Adipose-derived Stem Cells.

Modified Iliac Crest Reconstruction with Bone Cement for Reduction of Donor Site Pain and Morbidity after Open Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy: A Prospective Study.

Purpose: This study was to determine the efficacy of iliac crest reconstruction using bone cement in reducing pain and morbidity at the donor site in patients undergoing open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) with tricortical iliac crest autologous graft.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-three patients who underwent iliac crest reconstruction using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement (group A) and thirty patients who had no iliac crest reconstruction (group B) were enrolled in this study. All patients were evaluated for pain and functional disability related to graft harvesting using the pain and functional visual analogue scale (VAS) score during hospital stay and at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively.

The Risk Factors of Postoperative Delirium after Total Knee Arthroplasty.

We investigated the results of delirium which developed after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and the risk factors for delirium in the patients who are older than 65 years. From March 2008 to March 2012, we performed a retrospective study on 296 knees of 265 patients who were treated with TKA. They were divided into two groups: 216 patients without delirium and 49 patients diagnosed with delirium by psychiatry.

Predictors of reduction loss in tibial plateau fracture surgery: Focusing on posterior coronal fractures.

Introduction: Some studies have reported that fracture pattern was associated with reduction loss after surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate various factors that can influence reduction loss, including fracture patterns in unicondylar and bicondylar tibial plateau fractures.

Iliotibial band (ITB) friction syndrome is a common overuse injury typically seen in the active athlete population. A nodular lesion on the inner side of the ITB as an etiology or an accompanying lesion from friction syndrome has been rarely reported. A 45-year-old male presented with recurrent pain and a movable nodule at the lateral joint area, diagnosed as ITB friction syndrome.

Natural A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza virus infection case in a pet ferret in Taiwan.

Ferrets have demonstrated high susceptibility to the influenza virus. This study discusses a natural 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) (A(H1N1)pdm09) virus infection in a pet ferret (Mustela putorius furo) identified in Taiwan in 2013. The ferret was in close contact with family members who had recently experienced an influenza-like illness (ILI).

Short-Term Results of Total Knee Arthroplasty with Anterior-Posterior Glide LCS Mobile-Bearing System.

Nerve injury-induced activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in sensory neurons and Schwann cells has been implicated in peripheral nerve regeneration. In this study, we investigated the role of gp130-related cytokines including interleukin-6 (IL-6), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) in STAT3 activation in dorsal root ganglion neurons, Schwann cells, and endoneurial fibroblasts. We found that IL-6, but not CNTF or LIF, activated STAT3 in Schwann cells.

Effects of human amniotic membrane grafts combined with marrow mesenchymal stem cells on healing of full-thickness skin defects in rabbits.

We have investigated the wound-healing effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in combination with human amniotic membrane (HAM) when grafted into full-thickness skin defects of rabbits. Five defects in each of four groups were respectively treated with HAM loaded with autologous MSCs (group A), HAM loaded with allologous MSCs (group B), HAM with injected autologous MSCs (group C), and HAM with injected allologous MSCs (group D). The size of the wounds was calculated for each group at 7, 12, and 15 days after grafting.

Sex identification of owls (family Strigidae) using oligonucleotide microarrays.

Molecular sexing of the diversified avian family Strigidae is difficult. Sex identification using the intron length difference between W and Z chromosomal CHD1 genes, as visualized by agarose gel electrophoreses, often produces ambiguous results. Here we describe a simple method for sexing a variety of Strigidae species using oligonucleotide microarrays, on which several sex-specific probes operated complementarily or in concert.
