Hybrid lateral closed-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HBHTO) carries certain advantages over medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO). We investigated the potential difference in the required correction angle between HBHTO and OWHTO to achieve an equal amount of whole lower-extremity alignment correction, retrospectively analyzing the preoperative plain radiographic images of 100 patients. The medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA), joint line convergence angle (JLCA), mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (mLDFA), hip-knee-ankle axis (HKA), length of the tibia, width of the tibial plateau, length of the lower limb (leg length), and location of the center of deformity (CD) were measured.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to improve the three-dimensional (3D) understanding of optimal lateral cortical hinge in medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) via a computational cadaveric simulation of actual size.

Methods: The computed tomography data of 117 adult cadavers were imported into Mimics® software to design 3D models of tibia and fibula. To simulate the MOWTHO, a virtual cutting plane was developed inside the safe zone based on established landmarks.

Background: This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the differences in preoperative comorbidities, postoperative mortality, the rate of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), and revision rate after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) between patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD)(CKD group) and patients with normal kidney function (non-CKD group).

Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for studies assessing the effect of CKD on TJA outcome. This meta-analysis included studies that (1) compared the outcomes of TJA between the CKD and non-CKD groups; (2) compared the outcomes of TJA based on CKD stage; and (3) evaluated the risk factors for morbidity or mortality after TJA.

Purpose: We investigated the visual tracer distribution pattern and serial changes in uptake ratio in different anatomical zones during the natural postoperative course in order to establish a reference for evaluation of patients with complications.

Purpose: This study was to determine the efficacy of iliac crest reconstruction using bone cement in reducing pain and morbidity at the donor site in patients undergoing open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) with tricortical iliac crest autologous graft.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-three patients who underwent iliac crest reconstruction using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement (group A) and thirty patients who had no iliac crest reconstruction (group B) were enrolled in this study. All patients were evaluated for pain and functional disability related to graft harvesting using the pain and functional visual analogue scale (VAS) score during hospital stay and at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively.

Nerve injury-induced activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in sensory neurons and Schwann cells has been implicated in peripheral nerve regeneration. In this study, we investigated the role of gp130-related cytokines including interleukin-6 (IL-6), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) in STAT3 activation in dorsal root ganglion neurons, Schwann cells, and endoneurial fibroblasts. We found that IL-6, but not CNTF or LIF, activated STAT3 in Schwann cells.

We have investigated the wound-healing effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in combination with human amniotic membrane (HAM) when grafted into full-thickness skin defects of rabbits. Five defects in each of four groups were respectively treated with HAM loaded with autologous MSCs (group A), HAM loaded with allologous MSCs (group B), HAM with injected autologous MSCs (group C), and HAM with injected allologous MSCs (group D). Sex identification using the intron length difference between W and Z chromosomal CHD1 genes, as visualized by agarose gel electrophoreses, often produces ambiguous results.
