The torque teno canis virus (TTCaV) was first reported in 2001 and it shares similarities with the known Torque teno virus (TTV) in terms of genomic organization and putative transcriptional features. It is a single-stranded DNA virus characterized by high rates of recombination and nucleotide substitution, like RNA viruses. Studies reported recombination events in torque teno virus; however, there is limited reporting of TTCaV reorganization events.

In this paper, a three-dimensional fractional-order (FO) discrete Hopfield neural network (FODHNN) in the left Caputo discrete delta's sense is proposed, the dynamic behavior and synchronization of FODHNN are studied, and the system is applied to image encryption. First, FODHNN is shown to exhibit rich nonlinear dynamics behaviors. Phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents are carried out to verify chaotic dynamics in this system.

Since 2012, three viruses, known as equine hepacivirus (EqHV), equine pegivirus (EPgV) and Theiler's disease-associated virus (TDAV), have been discovered in equines. Given that these viruses are the newest members of the Flaviviridae family, genomic information concerning circulating EqHV, EPgV and TDAV strains around the world is limited. To date, no genetic surveillance studies have been performed on these three viruses in the equine population of China.

We conducted a retrospective seroepidemiological study for H10N8 avian influenza infection among 400 veterinarians sampled from February 2013 to August 2013 in Guangdong Province, China. None of the veterinarians had evidence of previous infection with the emergent H10N8 AIV. Although there is no evidence of H10N8-infected veterinarian before the first human index case of H10N8 infection in southern China, a more rigorous and long-term surveillance remained essential for early warning of novel reassortant viruses and interspecies transmission events.

Today the cross-species transmission of avian influenza viruses (AIV) are a great concern. A number of AIV strains are now enzootic among poultry, with H9N2 and highly pathogenic H5N1 AIV strains prevalent in China. H5N1 strains have been recognized to infect zoo and domestic feline species.

From January 2010 to January 2012, we collected sera samples from 700 stray cats living in close proximity to poultry farms or poultry markets in 4 provinces in China. A number of cats had evidence of avian and canine influenza virus infection: avian H9N2 [24 by HI ≥1:20 and 16 by microneutralization (MN) assay ≥1:80]; avian H5N1 (9 by HI ≥1:20 and 3 by MN assay ≥1:80) and canine H3N2 (32 by HI ≥1:20 and 18 by MN ≥1:80). Bivariate analyses revealed that cats sampled near live poultry markets and cats with influenza-like-illness were at increased risk of having elevated antibody titers by HI against avian H9N2, avian H5N1, or canine H3N2 viruses.

Anaplasma platys is a parasite of canine platelets that causes infectious cyclic thrombocytopenia. In this study, a novel real-time loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) method was developed to detect A. platys.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is considered one of the most important infectious diseases to affect the swine industry and characterized by reproductive failure in late term gestation in sows and respiratory disease in pigs of all ages. The GP5a gene, encoding RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, is generally regarded as fairly conserved when compared to other viral proteins. It plays an important role in the process of duplication and transcription carried out by Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV).

Infection of domestic cats with (H1N1) pandemic 2009 (pdm09) influenza A virus has recently been documented. In this paper, we report for the first time the sporadically current seroprevalence of (H1N1) pdm09 influenza A virus infection in cats in China. Thirteen of 1,080 sera were found positive by nucleoprotein (NP)-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) in different cat populations in southern China.

We report here the complete genomic sequence of an avian-origin H3N2 canine influenza A virus containing multiple mutations in farmed dogs in southern China. Phylogenetic analyses of the sequences of all eight viral RNA segments demonstrated that these are wholly avian influenza viruses of the Asia lineage. To our knowledge, this is the first report of interspecies transmission of an avian H3N2 influenza virus to domestic farm dogs under natural conditions in Southern China.

We report here the complete genomic sequence of an avian-like H4N8 swine influenza virus containing an H5N1 avian influenza virus segment from swine in southern China. Phylogenetic analyses of the sequences of all eight viral RNA segments demonstrated that these are wholly avian influenza viruses of the Asia lineage. To our knowledge, this is the first report of interspecies transmission of an avian H4N8 influenza virus to domestic pigs under natural conditions.

Background: As an obligate intracellular parasite, Toxoplasma gondii can infect humans and almost all warm-blooded animals. The consumption of raw or undercooked beef and milk is considered a risk for T. gondii infection in humans.

Objective: To determine pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of cefquinome administered IV, IM, or PO to healthy ducks.

Animals: Thirty-six 2-month-old Muscovy ducks.

Procedures: Ducks were randomly assigned to 3 groups of 12 birds each for a single IV, IM, or PO administration at a dose of 5 mg/kg.

Seoul virus (SEOV) is one of the four hantaviruses known to cause haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. The medium genome segment encodes the Gn/Gc glycoproteins of SEOV, which form the major structural part of the virus envelope. Gc and/or Gn are the candidate antigens of hantavirus for induction of a highly immunogenic response for hantavirus vaccine.
