Adenosine to inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing, the most prevalent type of RNA editing in metazoans, is carried out by adenosine deaminases (ADARs) in double-stranded RNA regions. Drawing on economic theory and institutional analysis, this paper reframes Akerlof's theory of how a market for lemons operates and argues that each of the many markets for lemons must be studied empirically to document how different stakeholders cope with the problems of information asymmetry, secrecy, and power. Such markets are a new field for sociological analysis. To illustrate, the paper characterizes pharmaceuticals as a multi-tier market of information asymmetry in which actors in each tier have substantial control over how much they disclose about hidden risks of harm.

The suitability of adult male the navel orangeworm, Amyelois transitella (Walker) for Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) has been reported for both high energy gamma (>1 MeV) and low energy x-ray (90 keV) sterilization. However, research regarding sterilization of NOW larvae and pupae by gamma irradiation indicated nonsuitability due to high mortality. Here, NOW larvae and pupae were irradiated to doses up to 50 Gy with 90 keV x-rays, then paired with nonirradiated colony mates.

Background: Donor site complications are a significant source of morbidity for patients undergoing abdominal-based free flap breast reconstruction, but there is a paucity of data regarding minimizing these postoperative complications. We hypothesize that selective ablation of the umbilicus at the time of deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) harvest decreases the incidence of umbilical and abdominal wall complications in high-risk patients.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed of all patients (n = 117) who underwent DIEP harvest with concomitant umbilical ablation from 2010 to 2015.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to survey the current practice of UK-based hernia surgeons in elective inguinal hernia repair.

Materials And Methods: A questionnaire was created using SurveyMonkey™ and sent electronically to registered members of the British Hernia Society.

Results: A total of 368 responses were obtained (a response rate of 55%); 83% were consultant surgeons, 91% were male and 91% stated that they had an interest in laparoscopic surgery.

Two natural compounds (quercetin and curcumin) were tested as sensitizing or protecting agents for Navel Orangeworm (NOW) larvae under x-ray sterilization, with the aim to reduce required doses and thus facilitate the substitution of x-ray for radioisotopes. The compounds were added to NOW diet at concentrations between 0 and 1.0 mmol kg and subsequent reared male larvae were subjected to x-ray irradiation (90 keV, 9 mA) to doses up to 15 Gy.
