The gregarious ectoparasitic beetle (Fairmaire) is considered a primary biocontrol agent for controlling several cerambycid pests in East Asian countries. A thorough study of reproductive behavior is a prerequisite for the mass production of natural insect predators. Nonetheless, little attention has been given to this ectoparasitic beetle.

Article Synopsis
  • Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) helps track COVID-19 trends and can complement clinical testing, but the relationship between wastewater and clinical data at smaller community levels is not well understood.
  • The study, conducted in Davis, California, tests a new method combining the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm with Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) to better estimate missing data in wastewater testing compared to traditional nondetect methods.
  • Results show that the new method may lead to better correlation between community-scale wastewater and clinical data, and the research proposes a way to integrate clinical and wastewater data on a more localized scale for improved public health monitoring.

Background: Previous studies have suggested that lifestyle factors are associated with mortality in different population. However, little is known about the impact of lifestyle factors on all-cause mortality in non-communicable disease (NCD) population.

Methods: This study included 10,111 NCD patients from the National Health Interview Survey.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The incidence of membranous nephropathy (MN) continues to rise globally. Shenqi granule (SQ), composed of thirteen Chinese medicinal herbs, has clinical efficacy in the treatment of MN and has been used in China for decades. However, the mechanism behind this effect remains unclear.

Background: Workplace violence is internationally recognised as a major concern for the workforce, which entails serious consequences, and research shows that medical residents are more likely than other doctors to experience violence in the workplace. This study first examines the effectiveness of simulation-based medical education, and then simulation-based medical education combined with behavioural economics as interventions in medical residents' perception of, attitude toward, and self-efficacy in coping with violence in the workplace.

Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used, 190 participants were randomised into three study groups to respectively test the effect of simulation-based medical education only and simulation-based medical education plus behavioural economics interventions, compared with a control group.

Background: A COVID-19 outbreak has been contained in China through effective prevention measures with the collaboration of the citizens. However, there is resistance to self-reported symptoms as required in the international student community. This study explored knowledge level and symptoms reporting behaviours toward COVID-19 among international students.

Background: With increasing urbanization in developing countries, sanitation workers are frequently involved in road traffic collisions. Our purpose was to study specific collisions involving sanitation workers and provide decision-making suggestions and reference measures for the sanitation industry and urban managers to reduce the occurrence of collisions.

Methods: We obtained online news data about sanitation worker road traffic collisions in China between 2013 and 2017 and analyzed occurrence time and location, victim characteristics, and causes of collisions.

Background: To evaluate the impact of a restricted access policy on workplace violence in a healthcare setting.

Methods: We surveyed healthcare workers before and after the implementation of a restricted-access policy at a tertiary hospital in north-eastern China. Data were collected in April 2017 and January 2019.

Purpose: Physicians and Standardised Residency Training physicians (SRTPs) have relatively high exposure to psychological violence. Its adverse effects are far greater than those of physical violence. However, no previous research has paid attention to the problem of psychological violence among them.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine workplace violence (WPV) towards healthcare professionals in a multiethnic area in China, including prevalence, influencing factors, healthcare professionals' response to WPV, expected antiviolence training measures and content, and evaluation of WPV interventions.

Design: A cross-sectional study.

Setting: A grade III, class A hospital in the capital of Yunnan Province, which is the province with the most diverse ethnic minority groups in China.

Background: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) that first occurred in Wuhan, China, is currently spreading throughout China. The majority of infected patients either traveled to Wuhan or came into contact with an infected person from Wuhan. Investigating members of the public with a travel history to Wuhan became the primary focus of the Chinese government's epidemic prevention and control measures, but several instances of withheld histories were uncovered as localized clusters of infections broke out.

Traditionally, Klett and Fernald inversion estimates an initial value using the slope method for horizontal visibility, which causes inversion uncertainty. We proposed an algorithm to retrieve the extinction coefficient and visibility distribution information from scanning Lidar to overcome instability due to initial atmospheric extinction coefficient choice and assuming the Lidar ratio. Numerical simulations showed that extinction coefficient maximum relative was much larger for inhomogeneous atmosphere using the Klett method, reaching 0.

Objective: To study the clinicalpathologic features of intracranial multiple lesions.

Methods: The clinical, radiologic and pathologic features of intracranial multiple lesions in 62 cases during the period from 2005 to 2009 in Xuanwu Hospital were retrospectively reviewed.

Results: There were 32 males and 30 females in 62 cases.

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic significance of D2-40 and annexin-1 in the ependymal tumors.

Methods: To analyses the expression of D2-40, annexin-1, EMA and Ki-67 by immunohistochemistry in 52 cases of ependymal tumors (48 cases of ependymomas, 4 cases of choroid plexus papilloma) from Xuanwu Hospital from 2005 to 2009. Ten cases of corresponding normal brain tissue were also obtained as control.

Objective: To study the immunohistochemical expression and diagnostic significance of CD34 in brain tumors of patients with refractory epilepsy.

Methods: Immunohistochemical study for CD34 was performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of 54 cases of brain tumors occurring in patients with refractory epilepsy. The tumor types included ganglioglioma (GG, number = 21), dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNT, number = 8), tumors/lesions which had the transitional features that between glioneuronal hamartia and mixed neuronal-glial tumor (number = 21) and pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA, number = 4).

Objective: To study the expression of P-glycoprotein, multi-drug resistance associated protein and major vault protein in pathologic brain specimens, and to investigate their roles in the pathogenesis of refractory epilepsy.

Methods: Immunohistochemical study was performed in pathology specimens from 18 cases of refractory epilepsy (including 5 cases of focal cortical dysplasia, 3 cases of tuberous sclerosis, 5 cases of ganglioglioma and 5 cases of dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor).

Results: Both the P-glycoprotein and major vault protein were localized in microvascular endothelium of the lesions.

Objective: To evaluate the alteration of subunits composition in NMDA receptor and the alterations of the expression and distribution of NMDA receptors and parvalbumin (PV)-positive neurons in focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) cortices.

Methods: Twenty cases of FCD samples (including all four subtypes of FCD) obtained during epilepsy surgery and 4 controls were analysed by immunohistochemical staining for NR1, NR2A/B and PV.

Results: Increased expression of NR1 was detected in the giant neurons and dysmorphic neurons in FCD; while pronounced expression of NR2A/B was detected in immature neurons, giant neurons and dysmorphic neurons of FCD, especially in somata and processes of the immature neurons.
