Background: Rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (RAS) gene mutation is a common molecular event in colorectal cancer (CRC). The prognosis of mCRC (metastatic colorectal cancer) patients with RAS mutation is poor and capecitabine and oxaliplatin (CapeOx) plus bevacizumab has shown to be one of the standard therapeutic regimens as first line for these patients with objective response rate (ORR) of ~ 50% and median progression-free survival (mPFS) of 8-9 months. Immunotherapy, especially anti-programmed death 1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody has demonstrated ground-breaking results in deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) / microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) mCRC patients.

Life detection technology using ultra-wideband (UWB) radar is a non-contact, active detection technology, which can be used to search for survivors in disaster rescues. The existing multi-target detection method based on UWB radar echo signals has low accuracy and has difficulty extracting breathing and heartbeat information at the same time. Therefore, this paper proposes a new multi-target localization and vital sign detection method using ultra-wide band radar.

  • Mutations in the KIT and PDGFRA genes make standard tyrosine kinase inhibitors ineffective for treating advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), prompting the study of ripretinib, a broad-spectrum kinase inhibitor, among Chinese patients.
  • In a real-world study with 23 advanced GIST patients previously treated with TKIs, ripretinib resulted in a median progression-free survival of 7.1 months and a median overall survival of 12.0 months.
  • The study found that ripretinib demonstrated better efficacy and manageable side effects compared to prior therapies, suggesting it is a viable option for treating advanced GIST.

The emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants and the dangers of long-covid necessitate the development of broad-acting therapeutics that can reduce viral burden. SARS-CoV-2 employs heparan sulfate (HS) as an initial cellular attachment factor, and therefore, there is interest in developing heparin as a therapeutic for SARS-CoV-2. Its use is, however, complicated by structural heterogeneity and the risk of causing bleeding and thrombocytopenia.

Chemotherapy combined with antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or anti-epidermal growth factor receptor monoclonal antibodies is the most promising approach to prolong survival and improve the quality of life of patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Anlotinib is an oral antiangiogenic tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets VEGF receptors 1/2/3, fibroblast growth factor receptors 1-4, and platelet-derived growth factor receptors a/β. Since anlotinib combined with oxaliplatin and capecitabine (CAPEOX) as a first-line treatment was previously shown to be effective and safe for patients with wild-type (WT) mCRC, we designed this randomized, open-label, parallel-group, non-inferiority, phase III study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib plus CAPEOX versus bevacizumab plus CAPEOX in patients with WT mCRC.

Heparan sulfate (HS) has a domain structure in which regions that are modified by epimerization and sulfonation (NS domains) are interspersed by unmodified fragments (NA domains). There is data to support that domain organization of HS can regulate binding of proteins, however, such model has been difficult to probe. Here, we report a chemoenzymatic methodology that can provide HS oligosaccharides composed of two or more NS domains separated by NA domains of different length.

As a new method to detect vital signs, Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar could continuously monitor human respiratory signs without contact. Aimed at addressing the problem of large interference and weak acquisition signal in radar echo signals from complex scenes, this paper adopts a UWB radar echo signal processing method that combines strong physical sign information extraction at P time and Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) to carry out theoretical derivation. Using this novel processing scheme, respiration and heartbeat signals can be quickly reconstructed according to the selection of the appropriate intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), and the real-time detection accuracy of human respiratory signs is greatly improved.

Three-dimensional (3D) synthetic heparan sulfate (HS) constructs possess promising attributes for neural tissue engineering applications. However, their sulfation-dependent ability to facilitate molecular recognition and cell signaling has not yet been investigated. We hypothesized that fully sulfated synthetic HS constructs (bearing compound ) that are functionalized with neural adhesion peptides will enhance fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF2) binding and complexation with FGF receptor-1 (FGFR1) to promote the proliferation and neuronal differentiation of human neural stem cells (hNSCs) when compared to constructs with unsulfated controls (bearing compound ).

In single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), a micro-sized Tc source is routinely used for performance measurement, geometry calibration, and system matrix generation. Therefore, a micro-sized source is critical in nuclear instrument production and quality control. Standard methods can only produce a point source with a large size and low total activity, as they are limited by the concentration of the Tc solution.
