Stroke patients often experience post-stroke emotional impairments, yet the underlying pathophysiology remains unclear. At the brain level, dysregulation of socio-affective skills should be considered through alterations in brain networks instead of isolated regions. Investigating network alterations may be crucial in explaining emotional or cognitive deficits.

Malignant hypertension (MHT) crisis triggers widespread microvascular damage, particularly in the brain. Despite recent MRI evidence highlighting acute cerebral injuries during MHT crises, follow-up data remain scarce. This study seeks to fill this gap by exploring how brain MRI markers evolve following acute MHT crisis management.

Introduction/background: Early identification of suspected stroke patients who might be eligible for a reperfusion strategy is a daily challenge in the management of patient referrals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of a remote medical assessment in identifying patients eligible for endovascular therapy (EVT) while not eligible for intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), compared with a decision based on bedside clinico-radiological data.

Methods: Patients admitted to the emergency department for acute neurological symptoms lasting for less than 24h were prospectively included.

Introduction: Whether and how atherosclerotic ischemic stroke patients should be investigated for asymptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD) is controversial. Our aim was to carry out a prospective observational study to determine the frequency and predictors of functionally significant coronary stenosis in these patients as well as the predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) during post-stroke follow-up.

Material And Methods: From January 2014 to June 2018, patients with atherosclerotic ischemic stroke were referred from the stroke unit to our cardiovascular department 3+/- 1 months after the acute event where they benefited from evaluation of cardiovascular risk factors, vascular and myocardial disease.

Introduction: The encouraging efficacy and safety data on intravenous thrombolysis with tenecteplase in ischemic stroke and its practical advantages motivated our centers to switch from alteplase to tenecteplase. We report its impact on treatment times and clinical outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical and procedural data of patients treated with alteplase or tenecteplase in a comprehensive (CSC) and a primary stroke center (PSC), which transitioned respectively in 2019 and 2018.

Background And Objectives: COVID-19-related inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and coagulopathy may increase the bleeding risk and lower the efficacy of revascularization treatments in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We aimed to evaluate the safety and outcomes of revascularization treatments in patients with AIS and COVID-19.

Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter cohort study of consecutive patients with AIS receiving intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and/or endovascular treatment (EVT) between March 2020 and June 2021 tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.

Background And Purpose: An early understanding of stroke mechanism may improve treatment and outcome in patients presenting with large vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS) treated with mechanical thrombectomy (MT). We aimed to investigate whether spontaneous external carotid artery (ECA) embolism detection during MT is associated with stroke etiology and clinical outcome.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our prospectively maintained institutional database including consecutive patients with anterior circulation LVOS treated with MT between January 2015 and August 2020.

. During deep brain stimulation (DBS) the electrode-tissue interface (ETI) forms a critical path between device and brain tissue. Although changes in the electrical double layer (EDL) and glial scar can impact stimulation efficacy, the effects of chronic DBS on the ETI have not yet been established.

Background And Purpose: Despite continuous improvement and growing knowledge in the endovascular therapy of large vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS), mechanical thrombectomy (MT) still fails to obtain satisfying intracranial recanalization in 10% to 15% of cases. However, little is known regarding clinical and radiological outcomes among this singularly underexplored subpopulation undergoing failed MT. We aimed to investigate the outcome after failed MT and identify predictive factors of favorable outcome despite recanalization failure.

Neuroscience lacks a diverse repertoire of model organisms, resulting in an incomplete understanding of the general principles of neural function. Ctenophores display many neurobiological and experimental features which make them a promising candidate to fill this gap. They possess a nerve net distributed across their body surface in the epithelial layer.

Antithrombotic drugs (ADs) are the mainstay of secondary prevention of thrombotic vascular diseases. Management of patients under long-term treatment with ADs admitted for acute cerebrovascular disease, either ischemic stroke (IS) or intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), has become a frequent situation that might influence decision-making processes from diagnosis to therapeutic strategies. The aim of this review is to summarize current data from the literature to help clinicians in their decisions for stroke care in patients taking ADs.

Background: Thirty percent of stroke patients will suffer from post-stroke depression (PSD). Recent data suggest that inflammation accounts for a substantial amount of depression. Our primary objective was to assess the association between standard inflammation biomarkers in the acute phase of stroke and PSD at three months.

Background: LSVT-BIG® is an intensively delivered, amplitude-oriented exercise therapy reported to improve mobility in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). However, questions remain surrounding the efficacy of LSVT-BIG® when compared with similar exercise therapies. Instrumented clinical tests using body-worn sensors can provide a means to objectively monitor patient progression with therapy by quantifying features of motor function, yet research exploring the feasibility of this approach has been limited to date.

Background: Optimization of the detection of atrial fibrillation following stroke is mandatory. Unfortunately, access to long-term cardiac monitoring is limited in many centers. The aim of this study was to assess the potential usefulness of three routine biological markers, troponin, D-dimers and BNP, measured in acute stroke phase in the selection of patients at risk of cardio-embolic stroke.
