Current treatment options for murine fur mites have limitations in safety and efficacy. This study evaluated whether topical lime sulfur (LS) is an adjunct or alternative to traditional treatment options for Myocoptes musculinus. To evaluate the safety of topical LS, mice were dipped in a 3% LS solution at 34 and 41 d of age.

Although no side effects of moxidectin have previously been reported to occur in mice, 2 strains of the senescence-accelerated mouse (SAMP8 and SAMR1) sustained considerable mortality after routine prophylactic treatment. To investigate the mechanism underlying this effect, moxidectin toxicosis in these mice was evaluated in a controlled study.

Forty-five chondromas, mostly supratentorial, have been reported in the literature since 1981, with origins most commonly in the sellar regions. Twenty-one osteolipomas have been described to date, usually located near the tuber cinereum or the corpus callosum.

The use of urokinase to prevent central venous access device (CVAD)-related infections in pediatric cancer patients represents an evidence-based approach, at least in external, tunneled catheters (eg, Hickman, Broviac). The effectiveness of urokinase prophylaxis in decreasing infections and thrombotic events is probably related not only to the concentration and timing of the urokinase intervention but also to the type of CVAD, and perhaps to the intensity of the concomitant chemotherapy program.

SLNs lying outside of traditional nodal basins are now being identified. Our hypothesis is that when preoperative lymphoscintigraphy identifies aberrant SLNs, these nodes should be excised and, if histologically positive, lymphadenectomy of the aberrant nodal basin should be performed.

Eleven study subjects with asthma and 12 normal controls were monitored for 5 days with a portable continuous nitrogen dioxide (NO2) monitoring instrument held at breathing level before, during, and after cooking dinner on a gas cooking range. Forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (FEV1.0), forced expiratory volume (FEV25-75), peak expiratory flow, and a tracing of the entire flow curve was monitored before the gas stove was turned on, during a break in cooking, immediately after, and 1 hr after cooking was completed.

Following a single erythropoietic stimulation creatine can stay elevated for many months. A rise of creatine may not only reflect a shift towards a younger cell population but also different erythropoietic sites.
