Preventability of injury-related morbidity & mortality at four hospitals in Cameroon: A systematic approach to trauma quality improvement.

Background: Adverse events reviews are a fundamental component of trauma quality improvement (QI) that facilitate the correction of systemic issues in care. Although injury-related mortality in Cameroon is substantial, to our knowledge, opportunities for QI have not been formally assessed. Thus, a formal review of adverse events in Cameroonian trauma patients was implemented as a first step toward identifying targets for systems modification.

From targets to solutions: Implementing a trauma quality improvement bundle in Cameroon.

Background: Global surgery research efforts have been criticized for failure to transition from problem identification to intervention implementation. We developed a context-appropriate trauma quality improvement (TQI) bundle to ameliorate care gaps at a regional referral hospital in Cameroon. Background: Isolated small bowel injury (ISBI) related to abdominal blunt trauma is rare. Timely diagnosis could be difficult, especially in the absence of modern imaging and laparoscopic facilities. The determinants of mortality under such circumstances are unclear.
