: Autosomal recessive osteopetrosis (ARO) is a rare genetic disorder of bone metabolism, primarily affecting the remodelling function of osteoclasts. Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the first-line treatment for ARO. Traditional tools for the assessment of therapeutic response, such as measuring donor chimerism, do not provide information on bone remodelling.

The present case report features a highly uncommon form of a paediatric TCF3-HLF positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) relapse, an extramedullary, peripheral bone manifestation. Following complete remission, during the conditioning for haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), our sixteen-year-old male patient complained of fever, pain and swelling of the right forearm. Radiography suggested acute osteomyelitis in the right ulna with subsequent surgical confirmation.

Patients suffering from encephalitis may present psychiatric symptoms; however, the clinical relevance of anti-neuronal antibodies in patients experiencing a psychotic episode without encephalitis is still unclear. In this study, we examined the presence of anti-neuronal cell surface autoantibodies and onconeural autoantibodies in serum samples of 22 synthetic cannabinoid users presenting with psychosis. We found only two positive cases; however, seven patients had borderline results.

Inflammation and immune dysregulation could contribute to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Osteopontin (OPN) is a cytokine-like glycoprotein involved in inflammation and in modulating immune responses, and it can also directly modify the cytokine expression and survival of microglia. Furthermore, elevated gene expression of OPN in first episode psychosis has recently been described, but to date OPN level has not been investigated in schizophrenia.

Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate encephalitis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by autoantibodies produced against NMDA receptors. We report the case of a 17-year-old drug user teenager who presented with altered mental scale, psychiatric symptoms and autonomic dysfunction. In the background we diagnosed NMDA encephalitis.

Objective: Anti-N-methyl-D-Aspartate encephalitis is a recently diagnosed autoimmune disorder with increasing significance. During this disease antibodies are produced against the subunit of the NMDA receptor, which cause different symptoms, both psychiatric and neurological. The aim of this publication is to introduce this disease, to facilitate the diagnosis and to recommend therapeutical guideline.

Article Synopsis
  • Oxidative stress contributes to various kidney and liver diseases, and reducing it is crucial for protecting tissues from harm.
  • PACAP, known for its cell-protective properties, was studied to see if it could help renal and liver cells facing oxidative stress.
  • In kidney cells, PACAP improved cell survival when exposed to stress, while in liver cells, it did not show the same protective effect; however, it increased antioxidant levels in a rat model of kidney ischemia/reperfusion injury.
