Study Objectives: To describe and evaluate an ultrasound pattern useful in the diagnosis of pneumothorax.
Design: Ultrasound examination of "lung sliding," a respiratory movement visible when investigating the chest wall.
Setting: The medical ICU of a university-affiliated hospital.
Endoscopic stenting has revolutionized the palliation of malignant biliary obstruction. Individuals with biliary obstruction due to pancreatic malignancy are best managed by a team approach comprising individuals with expertise in oncology, surgery, endoscopy, and radiology. The clinical value of alleviating jaundice and associated symptoms of anorexia, pruritus, and malaise cannot be overestimated.

Unlabelled: Dysphagia is not always present in patients with esophageal squamous cell papilloma, and it can be an incidental finding during gastrointestinal endoscopy of an asymptomatic patient.
Purpose: Three cases of squamous cell papilloma of the esophagus and aspects regarding diagnosis and association with human papillomavirus are presented. CASUISTIC: Two cases are male and one female what is consistent with a higher incidence showed in the literature in males.
As an important enzyme in DNA synthesis, dUTPase is present in a wide variety of organisms and viruses and has been identified as a component of the equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV) pol gene. The role of EIAV dUTPase, designated DU, in virus replication in vitro and in vivo was investigated with a recently described infectious molecular clone of EIAV. A deletion mutant that was deficient in dUTPase activity was constructed, and its replication kinetics was examined in fetal equine kidney (FEK) cells and primary equine bone marrow macrophage (EBMM) cells.

These tumors behave in an indolent nature, with frequent overlap of symptoms and radiographic appearance with other forms of pancreatic cysts, pseudocysts, and malignancy. Some authors propose that all mucin-producing tumors of the pancreas are variants of the same basic entity and have subclassified them on the basis of their predominant location within the pancreas.

Here we demonstrate that these two forms are synthesized as distinct primary translation products of a single species of G protein mRNA by initiation at either of two different AUGs. Mutant cDNAs which eliminated one of the other of the two AUG codons near the 5' end of the G gene open reading frame were constructed.

The diagnostic sensitivity of brush cytology is reported as between 18% and 70% for malignant bile duct or pancreatic duct strictures. We report our findings in 74 patients with pancreaticobiliary strictures who underwent ERCP.

A patient developed delayed life-threatening hemobilia after apparently uncomplicated percutaneous needle liver biopsy. An arteriobiliary fistula demonstrated by arteriography was successfully treated by selective transcatheter arterial embolization, with Gelfoam and a Gianturco coil. The diagnosis of liver biopsy-induced hemobilia should be suspected when a postprocedure fall in hematocrit is associated with abdominal pain, hyperbilirubinemia, or unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding.

The mechanism of the vasculitis is obscure but may be related to a chemical vasotoxic reaction. During anticoagulant and fibrinolytic therapy, 6 patients developed petechiae and ecchymoses which was accompanied by pain and fever.

Two cases of Fournier's gangrene in which toxemia and gangrene of the scrotum developed due to perianal abscesses are described. Cultures of anaerobic gram-negative Bacteroides with a mixed flora of Pseudomonas, E. coli and Proteus were obtained.

In order to save the limb, embolectomy is indicated and should be considered. Early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention with the use of the Fogarty catheter simplify the embolectomy procedure and enable restoration of circulation to the ischaemic limb.
