Background: Diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumor (DLGNT) is a rare central nervous system tumor, especially in adult females. Typically, it presents with leptomeningeal enhancements in the basal cisterns and spinal cord. However, varied radiological and pathological features can complicate the diagnosis, as the present case illustrates.

Despite the growing recognition of the value of interdisciplinary learning in doctoral education, there is still a gap in the literature supporting the relationship between it and doctoral students' scientific creativity in China. Based on a questionnaire survey of 457 doctoral students from the humanities and social sciences on the Chinese Mainland, this study adopted structural equation modeling to examine the relationships among interdisciplinary learning, teamwork skills, collaborative behaviors, and scientific creativity. The results indicated that there was a weak positive correlation between interdisciplinary learning and the scientific creativity of doctoral students.

Technologies that established in vivo evaluations of soft-tissue biomechanics and temperature are essential to biological research and clinical diagnostics, particularly for a wide range of eye-related diseases such as glaucoma. Of importance are advanced bioelectronic devices for high-precise monitoring of intraocular pressure (IOP) and various ocular temperatures, as clinically proven uses for glaucoma diagnosis. Existing characterization methods are temporary, single point, and lack microscale resolution, failing to measure continuous IOP fluctuation across the long-term period.

The objective of this study is to assess the influence of blended education methodologies, utilizing an online education platform, among stage III cardiac rehabilitation (CR) patients diagnosed with coronary heart disease (CHD). Between June and August 2021, a cohort of 90 patients diagnosed with CHD, previously discharged from a second-class hospital 1 year earlier, were randomly allocated into 2 groups: the experimental and control groups, with each comprising 45 patients. Patients in the control group received out-of-hospital CR education via WeChat, while those in the experimental group received blended CR education utilizing an online education platform.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the needs and constraints to cardiac rehabilitation (CR) among patients diagnosed with coronary heart disease (CHD) in a community-based setting, and thereby facilitating the implementation of effective CR programs for this population.

Methods: Focus group interviews were used as the primary research methodology. A total of 11 community-dwelling individuals diagnosed with CHD were selected from a community hospital to participate in in-depth interviews, aiming to discern and analyze their requirements and constraints experienced concerning medical resources and healthcare agency.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum α-Klotho levels and insulin resistance (IR), a precursor to type 2 diabetes.

Methods: The study analyzed data from 4,758 adult participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 2007 to 2016. The relationship between α-Klotho concentration and IR was assessed using the Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and odds ratios (OR) derived from logistic regression models.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of metagenomic sequencing technology based on Illumina and Nanopore sequencing platforms for patients with suspected lower respiratory tract infection whose pathogen could not be identified by conventional microbiological tests.

Methods: Patients admitted to the Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in Shanghai Ruijin Hospital were retrospectively studied from August 2021 to March 2022. Alveolar lavage or sputum was retained in patients with clinically suspected lower respiratory tract infection who were negative in conventional tests.

Article Synopsis
  • Sweet yellow clover (Melilotus officinalis) is a European plant used as forage and for nitrogen fixation and medicine; its genome was sequenced and assembled using advanced techniques.
  • The assembly resulted in a genome size of 1,066 Mbp with high-quality gene models (47,873) aiding molecular breeding research, and showed gene family changes linked to stress responses.
  • This work enhances genomic resources for Melilotus officinalis, supporting future studies of this important plant.

  • White clover (Trifolium repens L.) is a resilient perennial legume widely used as forage, but a lack of reference genome has hindered its breeding and cultivation.
  • This study successfully created a detailed chromosomal-level genome assembly of white clover using advanced sequencing methods, resulting in a 1096 Mb genome with high continuity and integrity.
  • The newly assembled genome, along with the annotation of over 90,000 gene models, offers essential resources for improving white clover breeding and studying its agronomic traits.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers wanted to find out how changes in blood sugar during a test could relate to the chances of older men dying over 15 years.
  • They studied 220 older men who had a glucose test in 2005 and looked for factors that might affect their survival.
  • They discovered that higher insulin resistance (a measure called HOMA-IR) and older age were important risk factors for being more likely to die within 15 years.

In single-atom catalysts (SACs), the complexity of the support anchoring sites creates a vast diversity of single-atom species with varied coordination environments. To date, the quantitative distribution of these diverse single-atom species in a given SAC has remained elusive. Recently, CeO-supported metal SACs have been extensively studied by modulating their local environments via numerous synthetic strategies.

Background: The association of vitamin D with all-cause mortality remains controversial and longitudinal evidence exploring the potential effects of change in vitamin D status is limited in the oldest old (aged ≥ 80 years old). We aimed to study the relationship between vitamin D change and all-cause mortality among older Chinese adults including the oldest old.

Methods: The data of Chinese Longitudinal and Health Longevity Study in 2012 and 2014 wave was used for baseline data.

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes increases with age-associated increased susceptibility of islet β-cells and altered dietary patterns, in part because of insufficient compensation of β-cell functional mass in the face of increasing insulin resistance. However, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In the present study, we investigated the effects of a long-term calorie-restricted (CR) or high-fat (HF) diet compared to a normal ad libitum diet on β-cell structure-function relationships and autophagy in the islets of 3- and 24-month-old Fischer 344 rats.
