Sexual dysfunction is common in males with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but yet the prevalence and specific relationship between CKD and sexual dysfunction, especially premature ejaculation (PE), remain to be investigated in China; This study aims to examine the prevalence and association between CKD and sexual dysfunction in male patients in China; In this cross-sectional, non-interventional, observational study conducted at a single center. 72 male patients with CKD were enrolled. Data collection included socio-demographic information, assessments via the 5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5), the Chinese version of the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool, the Patient Health Quentionnnaire-9 and the General Anxiety Disorder-7.

In a complex agricultural region, determine the appropriate crop for each plot of land to maximize the expected total profit is the key problem in cultivation management. However, many factors such as cost, yield, and selling price are typically uncertain, which causes an exact programming method impractical. In this paper, we present a problem of crop cultivation planning, where the uncertain factors are estimated as fuzzy parameters.

IgG4-related kidney disease complicated with retroperitoneal fibrosis: A case report.

Background: IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a chronic fibrotic disease mediated by immunity recognized by clinicians in recent years. When the kidney is involved, it is called IgG4-related kidney disease (IgG4-RKD). IgG4-related tubulointerstitial nephritis (IgG4-TIN) is a representative manifestation of IgG4-RKD.

Use of real-world evidence to support regulatory decisions on medical devices in China and a unique opportunity to gain accelerated approval in "Boao Lecheng Pilot Zone".

This article aims to summarize the development and challenges of real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) in China and introduce a unique opportunity for medical devices to gain accelerated regulatory approval in China by utilizing RWE generated in a free trade pilot zone "Boao Lecheng" in Hainan Province. In 2020, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued a draft guideline on the "Use of real-world data to support clinical evaluation for medical devices", suggesting that RWE derived from RWD could support clinical evaluation throughout the life cycle of a medical device. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has allowed qualified RWD collected in Boao Lecheng to support registration application of innovative medical devices and drugs in China.

Self-management program for patients with chronic kidney disease (SMP-CKD) in Southern China: protocol for an ambispective cohort study.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major global health problem. Short-term self-management has been considered to effect some renal and psychological endpoints. In this study, a novel MSN-PEG@AS/BP nano-spray was designed to solve these issues. Astragaloside IV (AS) was loaded in mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) to enhance angiogenesis and regulate inflammation, and the two-dimensional (2D) nanosheet black phosphorus (BP) was used to kill bacteria through a photothermal effect.

Volume of Crescents Affects Prognosis of IgA Nephropathy in Patients without Obvious Chronic Renal Pathology.

Introduction: A working group on the Oxford classification of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) recently reported that crescents detected in the kidney tissue predicted a worse renal outcome. However, the effect of C1 lesion (crescents in <1/4th of all glomeruli) and their volume on the prognosis of IgAN is still unclear. We explored the association of C1 lesion with the renal prognosis in IgAN patients without obvious chronic renal lesions (glomerulosclerosis <25%, T score <2).

Background: IgA nephropathy (IgAN), the most common glomerulonephritis in the world, is an important cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Background: In clinical practice, Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) purportedly has beneficial therapeutic effects for chronic kidney disease (CKD), which include delaying disease progression and dialysis initiation. However, there is a lack of high-quality evidence-based results to support this. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of CHM combined with Western medicine in the treatment of stage 5 CKD.

Long noncoding RNAs: Important participants and potential therapeutic targets for myocardial ischaemia reperfusion injury.

Myocardial ischaemia reperfusion (I/R) injury is one of the leading causes of coronary artery disease-associated morbidity and mortality. While different strategies have been used to limit I/R injuries, cardiac functions often do not recover to the normal level as anticipated. Recent studies have pointed to important roles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the development of myocardial I/R injury.

Preventable Deaths in Multiple Trauma Patients: The Importance of Auditing and Continuous Quality Improvement.

Background: Management errors during pre-hospital care, triage process and resuscitation have been widely reported as the major source of preventable and potentially preventable deaths in multiple trauma patients. Common tools for defining whether it is a preventable, potentially preventable or non-preventable death include the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) clinical guideline, the Injury Severity Score (ISS) and the Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS). Therefore, these surrogated scores were utilized in reviewing the study's trauma services.

Early Administration of Oseltamivir Within 48 Hours After Onset of Flulike Symptoms Can Reduce the Risk of Influenza B Virus-Associated Pneumonia in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients with Influenza B Virus Infection.

We conducted a retrospective study to identify the risk factors for pneumonia in hospitalized pediatric patients with influenza B infection. Receiving oseltamivir within the first 48 hours of onset and frequent cough was respectively considered as a protective factor and a risk factor for the influenza B virus-associated pneumonia in hospitalized pediatric patients. Early administration of oseltamivir can reduce the risk of influenza B virus-associated pneumonia.

A Segmentation Scheme of Brainstem and Cerebellum using Scale-Based Fuzzy Connectedness and Deformable Contour Model.

A semi-automatic multiple-stage segmentation scheme of brainstem and cerebellum is proposed in this paper. This proposed scheme contains a modified Scale-based Fuzzy Connectedness (FC) algorithm, a morphology operator, Chain code, and Active Contour Mode (ACM). A modified Scale-based FC is utilized to delivery a rough segmentation, a morphology operator and Chain code are used to compensate the uncompleted small regions and derive an initial contour, and ACM is employed to obtain the final object boundary with the aid of the initial contour from the previous stages.

This paper presents an upper-limb-movement classification system of cerebral palsy children based on their arm motion information to judge their impairment degree. The system contains three parts: image capture, image segmentation, and information classification processing.

An Adaptive-Tabu GA for Registration of CT and Surface Laser Scan.

An adaptive-tabu GA (Genetic Algorithm) method is proposed to improve some traditional GA methods in the registration of computer tomography (CT) and surface laser scan. In this method, the adaptive memory structure and search strategy of Tabu Search (TS) with the modified chromosome crossover and adaptive mutation are proposed to increase the convergence speed and accuracy of the fitness function. This registration method can be used on non-fiducial stereo-tactic brain surgeries to assist surgeons to diagnose and treat brain diseases.
