Purpose: To compare the functional outcome of the polypropylene trapezoid frontalis suspension with the polypropylene modified Crawford frontalis suspension in a large cohort of patients with oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy.

Methods: Retrospective, nonrandomized comparative case series. Patients with oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy who underwent bilateral polypropylene frontalis suspension were selected for chart review.

Purpose: To determine the tear osmolarity in patients with tearing secondary to dry eye and other pathologies, and to determine the prevalence of dry eye disease among patients with tearing in an oculoplastics setting.

Methods: 108 eyes of 54 patients with a chief complaint of tearing were prospectively recruited. Subjects were excluded if they used eye drops or contact lenses within 2 hours of assessment, had a history of refractive surgery, an active ocular allergy, or evidence of a systemic disease which affects tear production.

Purpose: The aim was to describe a novel technique to retrieve retained stenting material from the lacrimal system.

Methods: In this consecutive case series, the authors reviewed charts of 4 children with retained silicone material in their lacrimal sac following intubation. In 2 children, the presence of the retained material was well documented.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) has been associated with hemolytic conditions such as sickle cell disease but the possible role of hemolysis in the pathogenesis or pathophysiology of other forms of PAH has not been studied. Erythrocyte lifespan is the gold-standard test of hemolysis and may be measured by assaying erythrocyte creatine (EC) levels. EC decreases as the erythrocyte ages, so patients with hemolysis have high EC levels.
