Article Synopsis
  • Phenanthrene (PHE), a toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), is prevalent in aquatic settings and adversely affects marine life, particularly crustaceans like the Scylla paramamosain.
  • In an experiment, varying concentrations of PHE (0, 0.7, 7, 70 μg/L) were administered to groups of 35 crabs, revealing changes in hemocyte characteristics and increased total hemocyte counts as PHE levels rose.
  • The results indicated that PHE exposure caused hepatopancreas damage and altered antioxidant enzyme activities, while also significantly up-regulating key immune-related genes, underscoring the potential dangers of PAH pollution on marine ecosystems.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are typically regarded as being generated by the cellular respiratory chain or by cells under pathological damage, which play a crucial role as signaling molecules in promoting hemocytes circulation and normal cellular physiological functions. In this study, the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was used to reduce ROS in vivo and in vitro, which to analyze the effect of ROS on innate immunity and viral infection of mud crab. The total hemocyte count (THC), phenoloxidase (PO), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, immune-relative genes were analyzed, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Nurses often face traumatic events in their work, which can lead to both negative outcomes like PTSD and positive outcomes such as posttraumatic growth (PTG), enhancing their mental health and life satisfaction.
  • The study shows that nurses generally experience moderate levels of PTG after trauma, and it identifies various personal, work-related, and organizational factors that can impact this growth.
  • The findings suggest that interventions to support PTG should consider these influencing factors to better help nurses cope with trauma and foster their positive development.*

  • Workplace bullying is linked to a 26% increased risk of employees taking sick leave, regardless of how long the follow-up period is.
  • The study found a significant reverse effect, indicating that individuals with long-term sickness absence are more likely to experience workplace bullying later on.
  • This research suggests a mutual relationship between workplace bullying and long-term sickness absence, urging organizations to focus on preventative measures for bullying, especially for employees who return after extended illnesses.

As containers of human activities, both urban and rural built-up settlements play roles in the increment of regional GHG emissions. This study investigates the relationship between the spatial characteristics of different urban-rural settlements and carbon emissions in Guangdong province, China. After estimating the carbon emissions of 21 cities in Guangdong province from 2005 to 2020, this paper constructs a panel regression model based on the STIPRAT model to identify the impact of different types of urban-rural settlements on carbon emissions with controlling socioeconomic factors.
