Introduction: Previous studies showed that artemisinin (ART) may be useful in the protection against the early development of atherosclerosis, but the effects of ART on vasodilation and eNOS remained unclear.

Objectives And Methods: In the current study, we investigated the protective effect of ART on endothelial cell injury induced by oxidative stress and its underlying mechanism via MTT assay, Flow Cytometry Assay, Vasodilation study, Western blotting and vivo assay.

Results: We found that pretreatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with ART significantly suppressed H2O2-induced cell death by decreasing the extent of oxidation and MDA activity, activating SOD, increasing NO production and inhibiting caspase 3/7 activity.

Forkhead box protein O3 (FoxO3a) is a forkhead box family transcription factor which serves an important role in a number of biological functions, including tumor growth. Impairment of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) signaling plays an important role in the development of neurodegeneration. In the present study, we investigated the effect of HO on the survival signaling of IGF-1 and its underlying mechanisms in human neuronal cells SH-SY5Y. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of mouse nerve growth factor (NGF) on retinal ganglion cell (RGC) injury induced by retinal ischemia-reperfusion (RIR) in rats and explored its possible mechanisms of action. RIR caused a significant injury to RGCs and an obvious impairment of the inner retina functions, which could be seen from flash electroretinogram and flash visual evoked potential recordings. RIR also increased the expression of the apoptotic protein Bax while decreasing the expression of Bcl-2 and the phosphorylation of protein kinase B (Akt) in RGCs.
