Background: The balance and postural control of humans is related to the coordination of dynamic perception and movement. Multiple senses, such as vision, vestibular sense, proprioception, and/or a single sensory disorder, would lead to its integration disorder and induce imbalance and abnormal gait.
Objective: The present study aimed to determine the effects of dynamic motion instability system training (DMIST) on the balance and motor function of hemiplegic patients after stroke.
Higher alcohols that contain more than two carbon atoms have better fuel properties than ethanol, making them important supplements and alternatives to fossil fuels. Using microbes to produce higher alcohols from renewable biomass can alleviate the current energy and environmental crises, and has become a major future direction for green biomanufacturing. Since natural microbes can only produce a few higher alcohols in small amounts, it is necessary to reconstruct the synthetic pathways for higher alcohols in model industrial strains through metabolic engineering and synthetic biology to overcome the metabolic bottlenecks.

strain K-12 MG1655 has been proposed as an appropriate host strain for industrial production. However, the direct application of this strain suffers from the transformation inefficiency and plasmid instability. Herein, we conducted genetic modifications at a serial of loci of MG1655 genome, generating a robust and universal host strain JW128 with higher transformation efficiency and plasmid stability that can be used to efficiently produce desired chemicals after introducing the corresponding synthetic pathways.

Background: Protein-based bioconversion has been demonstrated as a sustainable approach to produce higher alcohols and ammonia fertilizers. However, owing to the switchover from transcription mediated by the bacterial RNA polymerase σ to that mediated by alternative σ factors, the biofuel production driven by σ-dependent promoters declines rapidly once cells enter the stationary phase or encounter stresses. To enhance biofuel production, in this study the growth phase-independent and nitrogen-responsive transcriptional machinery mediated by the σ is exploited to drive robust protein-to-fuel conversion.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn order to explore the variation in soil microbial community diversity in paddy fields with different irrigation periods, we collected in situ rice field soils during different biogas irrigation periods and analyzed the microbial community structures of these soils by high-throughput sequencing. The results showed that as the biogas irrigation period increased, the soil pH decreased gradually, while organic matter, nitrate nitrogen, phosphate, and other nutrients were accumulated. Years of continued biogas irrigation was not conducive to improving rice yields.
