Peatlands are vital soil carbon sinks, yet this function is jeopardized by plant carbon which could change the decomposition rate of soil organic carbon, knowing as "priming effect". How the priming effect depends on depth is a critical question in drained peatland given the heterogeneity of soil layers defined by the water table, which include the surface acrotelm, inter-mesotelm and deep catotelm. 6-OHDA plus ascorbic acid (AA) has long been used to induce Parkinson's disease in rodents, while only 6-OHDA is commonly used to induce cell damage in cellular PD models. Autophagy dysfunction is a common feature in neurodegenerative disorders characterized by accumulation of toxic protein aggregates. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that activation of TFEB (transcription factor EB), a master regulator of autophagy and lysosomal biogenesis, can ameliorate neurotoxicity and rescue neurodegeneration in animal models.
