Herein, a palladium-catalyzed bicycloaromatization of -(alkynyl)styrenes with alkynes is reported. In this protocol, the 6-- cyclization of -(alkynyl)styrenes is followed by deprotonation to complete the first cycloaromatization, and then, a regioselective alkyne insertion/C-H activation occurs to achieve the second cycloaromatization, resulting in atom- and step-economical syntheses of polysubstituted chrysenes. Notably, the products can be further used to construct π-extended arenes using the Scholl reaction.

Article Synopsis
  • Liver cancer is a serious global health issue, with surgical resection as the main treatment option, but malnutrition significantly affects patient outcomes and survival.
  • This study reviews recent literature on how malnutrition impacts liver cancer surgery patients and emphasizes the importance of proper nutritional assessment and support.
  • The authors advocate for a multidisciplinary team approach to nutritional management during the perioperative period to improve patients' nutritional status and enhance surgical success and recovery.

Background: TP53 mutations are frequent in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Different categories of TP53 mutations may be associated with survival in advanced NSCLC, but their effect on prognosis is diverse. To date, a comprehensive comparison of the relationship between different classes of TP53 alterations and survival in advanced NSCLC has rarely been performed.

Background: Ovarian steroid cell tumors (SCTs), not otherwise specified (NOS), are rare, with few large studies. The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical features, prognosis, and treatment choices for these patients of different age groups.

Methods: This was a retrospective study.

Gold-silver (Au@Ag) core-shell nanostructures have a stronger surface plasma response, wider absorption and scattering in the UV-vis-NIR region, and distinctive optical properties, which are widely explored in biosensors, information processing, photothermal therapy, and catalysis. Core-shell nanostructures are usually formed by the deposition of the second metal atoms onto the first core metal particles via the chemical wet method. The conventional approaches for the manipulation of the shape usually were done by homogeneous growth or etching of isotropic nanoparticles.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the outcomes of permanent Iodine-125 (I) radiotherapy for patients with unresectable retroperitoneal malignant tumor.

Methods: Twenty-six patients with retroperitoneal malignant tumors were implanted with I seeds under ultrasound guidance from June 2012 to June 2015. The patients were then followed up for 3 to 36 months after the implantation.

Ovarian fibroma/fibrothecoma with elevated serum OC125 antigen (CA125) is rarely encountered in clinical practice, and also easily misdiagnosed as epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC). The aim of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological features of ovarian fibroma/fibrothecoma with elevated serum CA125.In total, 580 patients who underwent primary surgery and pathologically diagnosed as ovarian fibroma/fibrothecoma were retrospectively analyzed.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is widely used to treat patients with locally advanced cervical cancer. Optimal pathological response to neoadjuvant therapy has proven to be a good prognostic indicator for patient survival, but the prognostic significance of a partial response remains unclear. The aim of this study was to identify prognostic predictors for patients with partial response.

As epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT) shares similar clinical features with other gestational trophoblastic neoplasms (GTNs), it is likely to be clinically misdiagnosed and subsequently treated in an improper way. This study aimed to identify the sonographic features of ETT that are distinct from other GTNs, including placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) and invasive mole/choriocarcinoma (IM/CC). Here, we retrospectively analyzed ultrasound images of 12 patients with ETT in comparison with those of 21 patients with PSTT and 24 patients with IM/CC.

A metal-free decarboxylative amination of 4-(ethoxycarbonyl)-2,3-allenols by TsNCO via base-induced aza-Michael addition/elimination has been developed. A variety of substituted N-tosyl 1,3-dien-2-yl amines were obtained in good yields and excellent regio- and stereoselectivity. Moreover, this transformation could be applied in preparation of 2-amino-trienes.
