Background: bacterial meningitis (BM) is more common in infants than at any other time in life and remains a devastating disease with considerable risk of death and morbidity. This article aims to gather the currently available evidence to perform a systematic review of clinical factors that may predict or be associated with BM death and/or sequelae in infants < 90 days of age.
Methods: The Medline/PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase databases were systematically searched for prognostic studies that described risk factors for mortality and sequelae in infants aged <90d with BM.
DNA damage repair (DDR) is essential for maintaining genome integrity and modulating cancer risk, progression, and therapeutic response. DDR defects are common among non-small lung cancer (NSCLC), resulting in new challenge and promise for NSCLC treatment. Thus, a thorough understanding of the molecular characteristics of DDR in NSCLC is helpful for NSCLC treatment and management.

Methods: In this randomised controlled trial, adult patients who were newly initiated on warfarin with intended treatment duration of at least 3 months were recruited. Participants were randomly allocated to receive the pharmacist-led education and follow-up service (PEFS) or usual care (UC).
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine expression levels of miR-433 in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) and adjacent normal tissues, and explore its biological functions in OSCCs.
Methods: miR-433 level in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) and adjacent normal tissues was tested by real-time qPCR. The effect of miR-433 on cell growth was detected by MTT and colony formation assays.
Icariin (ICA), a flavanoid isolated from herbal Epimedium, has multiple biological activities. The present study investigated the effects of ICA on the proliferation and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity (an index for PDLC differentiation) of human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) inhibited by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). hPDLCs were cultured in vitro and stimulated with various concentrations of ICA.

In this study, mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from the Wharton's jelly of human umbilical cord tissue using the simple method of tissue blocks culture attachment. UCMSC surface marker expression was then evaluated for the isolated cells using flow cytometry.
