Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the preoperative fibrinogen to pre-albumin ratio (FPR) as a potential prognostic marker for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) who undergo surgery.
  • A total of 563 PDAC patients were analyzed, showing that those with a high FPR (>14.77) had significantly worse recurrence-free and overall survival rates compared to those with a low FPR.
  • The findings suggest that FPR is a strong independent predictor of patient outcomes, indicating it could be beneficial for improving current prognostic models and guiding treatment decisions for PDAC patients.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy that is characterized by early metastasis, high recurrence, and therapy resistance. Early recurrence after surgery is one of the important reasons affecting the prognosis of pancreatic cancer. This study aimed to establish an accurate preoperative nomogram model for predicting early recurrence (ER) for resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Splenectomy often accompanies distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic cancer. However, debates persist on splenic function loss impact. Prior studies in mice revealed splenectomy promotes pancreatic cancer growth by altering CD4/Foxp3 and CD8/Foxp3 ratios.

Objective: Tumor cell malignancy is indicated by histopathological differentiation and cell proliferation. Ki-67, an indicator of cellular proliferation, has been used for tumor grading and classification in breast cancer and neuroendocrine tumors. However, its prognostic significance in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains uncertain.

The current TNM staging system for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has revised the definitions of T and N categories as well as stage groups. However, studies validating these modifications have yielded inconsistent results. The existing TNM staging system in prognostic prediction remains unsatisfactory.

This work introduces a novel multifunctional system called UPIPF (upconversion-polydopamine-indocyanine-polyethylene-folic) for upconversion luminescent (UCL) imaging of cancer cells using near-infrared (NIR) illumination. The system demonstrates efficient inhibition of human hepatoma (HepG2) cancer cells through a combination of NIR-triggered photodynamic therapy (PDT) and enhanced photothermal therapy (PTT). Initially, upconversion nanoparticles (UCNP) are synthesized using a simple thermal decomposition method.

Objective: In this study, the relationship between preoperative plasma D-dimer level and overall survival and recurrence free survival were evaluated in patients with curative resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Methods: Preoperative plasma D-dimer level of 573 patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma were collected. The univariate and multivariate Cox hazard models were used to identify independent variables associated with overall survival and recurrence free survival in this study.

Tumor deposits (TDs) are associated with poor prognosis in several malignancies and have been incorporated into the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system for colorectal cancer. This study aims to explore the significance of TDs in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). All patients who underwent pancreatectomy with a curative intent for PDAC were retrospectively enrolled.

Background And Objectives: Pretreatment immunological indicators and nutritional factors are associated with survival of many malignancies. This study aims to develop a prognostic nutritional score based on a combination of pretreatment lymphocyte, platelet, and prealbumin (Co-LPPa) in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC) and to investigate the prognostic significance of this score.

Methods: Patients who underwent pancreatectomy with a curative intent for PC were retrospectively enrolled.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential impact of tumor size on the long-term outcome of colon cancer (CC) patients after curative surgery. A total of 782 curatively resected T4a stage CC patients without distant metastasis were enrolled. Patients were categorized into 2 groups according to the best threshold of tumor size: larger group (LG) and smaller group (SG).

The extent of lymph node (LN) dissection has been a topic of interest in gastric cancer (GC) surgery. D2 lymphadenectomy is considered the standard surgical procedure for most resectable advanced GC cases. The value and indications of more extended lymphadenectomy than D2 remain unclear.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the potential impact of "D2 plus" lymphadenectomy on the long-term survival of distal gastric cancer (GC) patients with clinical serosa invasion. A total of 394 distal GC patients with clinical serosa invasion who underwent at least standard D2 lymphadenectomy were enrolled. Patients were categorized into two groups according to the extent of lymphadenectomy: D2 group and "D2 plus" group.

Objective: Lymphovascular infiltration (LVI) is frequently detected in gastric cancer (GC) specimens. Studies have revealed that GC patients with LVI have a poorer prognosis than those without LVI.

Methods: In total, 1,007 patients with curatively resected GC at Department of Gastric Cancer, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital were retrospectively enrolled.

Background: Extranodal tumor deposits have been reported to be associated with a poor prognosis in many malignancies and are also included in the tumor, node, and metastasis staging system for colorectal cancer.

Methods: We reviewed retrospectively a total of 2,344 gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy with curative intent at the Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital (Hexi District, Tianjin, China) and the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University (Longhua District, Haikou, China). Patients were categorized into 2 groups based on extranodal tumor deposit status: a positive group, including those with extranodal tumor deposits, and a negative group composed of those with no extranodal tumor deposits.

Objective: Elevated plasma D-dimer has been reported to be associated with advanced tumor stage and poor survival in several types of malignancies. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential impact of preoperative plasma D-dimer level (PDL) on overall survival (OS) of gastric cancer (GC) patients undergoing curative surgery by applying propensity score analysis.

Methods: A total of 1,025 curatively resected GC patients in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital were enrolled.
