Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-based chemotherapeutic regimens are routinely used for the treatment of patients with CRC. However, recurrence and chemotherapeutic drug resistance limit the survival rates of patients with CRC.

Dual C(sp )-H Bond Functionalization of N-Heterocycles through Sequential Visible-Light Photocatalyzed Dehydrogenation/[2+2] Cycloaddition Reactions.

Herein we describe a mild method for the dual C(sp )-H bond functionalization of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles through a sequential visible-light photocatalyzed dehydrogenation/[2+2] cycloaddition procedure. As a complementary approach to the well-established use of iminium ion and α-amino radical intermediates, the elusive cyclic enamine intermediates were effectively generated by photoredox catalysis under mild conditions and efficiently captured by acetylene esters to form a wide array of bicyclic amino acid derivatives, thus enabling the simultaneous functionalization of two vicinal C(sp )-H bonds.

Zeolite Supported-Nano TiO₂ Composites Prepared by a Facile Solid Diffusion Process as High Performance Photocatalysts.

In this paper, zeolite supported-nano TiO2 photocatalytic composites were synthesized by an easily-operated solid diffusion process, in which zeolite was used as the support matrix. And the microstructures, morphologies and photocatalytic properties of the zeolite supported-nano TiO2 composites were characterized and analyzed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and methylene blue degradation tests. The results showed that zeolite matrix reduced agglomeration of nano-TiO2 and enhanced the absorption ability within the UV-Vis range, consequently increased the photocatalytic activity of the composites.

Cartilage intermediate layer protein-1 alleviates pressure overload-induced cardiac fibrosis via interfering TGF-β1 signaling.

Cardiac fibrosis is characterized by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the myocardium and results in decreased ventricular compliance and diastolic dysfunction. Cartilage intermediate layer protein-1 (CILP-1), a novel identified cardiac matricellular protein, is upregulated in most conditions associated with cardiac remodeling, however, whether CILP-1 is involved in pressure overload-induced fibrotic response is unknown. Here, we investigated whether CILP-1 was critically involved in the fibrotic remodeling induced by pressure overload.

Relationship Between Dental Hygiene Students' Performance in an Oral Radiology Course and the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination: A Retrospective Study.

Dental hygiene students' performance in oral radiology courses may give an early indication of their readiness prior to taking the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE). The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between dental hygiene students' performance in an oral radiology lecture course and their performance on the NBDHE. Data were collected for all 117 dental hygiene students at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry from 2006 to 2009 who took the NBDHE during their second year of the program.

Background: Migraine is a prevalent, disabling type of primary headache disorder associated with a high socioeconomic burden. The clinical management of migraine is challenging. This study was to identify potential serum lipidomic biomarkers of migraine.

T Cell Profile was Altered in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

BACKGROUND Studies have suggested that type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases the risk of active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) infection. T2D might exacerbate TB severity and adversely impact the treatment of TB patients by suppressing the immune response of TB. However, how the immune cell profiles are changed in Chinese TB patients with coincident of T2D compared with TB patients without T2D is still unclear.

The effect of fucoidan on intestinal flora and intestinal barrier function in rats with breast cancer.

Recent research studies have shown that the intestinal flora are related to the occurrence and progress of breast cancer. This study investigates the effect of fucoidan on intestinal flora and intestinal barrier function in rats with 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)-induced breast cancers. Sixty female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to the control group, the model group, and the F1 and F2 groups, which were fed fucoidan at concentrations of 200 and 400 mg per kg bw (body weight), respectively.

With carbazole and p-cyanobromobenzene as raw materials, 4-(3,6-di (anthracen-9-yl)-9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzonitrile (DACB) and 4-(3,6-bis(anthracene -9-ylethynyl)-9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzonitrile (BACB) were synthesized through the Suzuki coupling reaction and the Sonogashira coupling reaction, respectively. These structures were characterized using H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), elemental analysis and mass spectrometry. Their thermal properties, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption, fluorescence emission, fluorescence quantum yields and electrochemical properties were also investigated systematically.

Delayed Recanalization Promotes Functional Recovery in Rats Following Permanent Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion.

Most large vessel stroke patients have permanent occlusion, for which there are no current treatment options. Recent case studies have indicated delayed recanalization, that is recanalization outside of the 6-h treatment window, may lead to improved outcome. We hypothesized that delayed recanalization will restore cerebral blood flow, leading to improved function in rats.

MiR-27b-3p Regulation in Browning of Human Visceral Adipose Related to Central Obesity.

Objective: Given the rising prevalence of central obesity and the discovery that beige cells appear within white adipose tissue, strategies to enhance these energy-expending adipocytes or "browning" within white adipose depots have become of therapeutic interest to combat obesity and its associated disorders. This study focused on, the role of microRNA (miRNA)-27b-3p in human visceral adipose tissue (VAT) browning.

Methods: Expression of miR-27b-3p and UCP1 in VAT and serum of humans was measured.

TSLP/TSLPR promote angiogenesis following ischemic stroke via activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway.

The current study aimed to investigate the effects of the thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP)/TSLP receptor (TSLPR) on angiogenesis following ischemic stroke in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, whether the phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) pathway mediates the effects of TSLP/TSLPR on angiogenesis was explored. A rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model was established, and it was demonstrated that the expression levels of TSLP and TSLPR were significantly increased in the infarct area between 12 and 72 h after MCAO, as determined by ELISA and western blot analyses.

Evaluation of potentially achievable vaccination coverage of the second dose of measles containing vaccine with simultaneous administration and risk factors for missed opportunities among children in Zhejiang province, east China.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the potential achievable coverage of the second dose of measles containing vaccine (MCV2) when the protocol of simultaneous administration of childhood vaccines was fully implemented. Risk factors for missed opportunity (MO) for simultaneous administration of MCV2 were also investigated.

Methods: Children born from 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2014 and registered in Zhejiang provincial immunization information system were enrolled in this study.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Acceptance among Pregnant Women in Zhejiang Province, China: Evidence Based on Health Belief Model.

Reasons for acceptance of seasonal influenza vaccine (SIV) vaccination among pregnant women in China are poorly understood. We assessed the intention to accept SIV among pregnant women in Zhejiang province, by using a self-administrated structured questionnaire developed on the basis of health belief model (HBM). From 1 January to 31 March 2014, pregnant women with ≥12 gestational weeks who attended antenatal clinics (ANCs) at public hospitals in 6 out of 90 districts were surveyed using a self-administered questionnaire that covered knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs related to SIV vaccination and influenza infection.

Muramyl Dipeptide Enhances Thermal Injury-Induced Autophagy and Inflammatory Cytokine Response of Lungs via Activation of NOD2/Rick Signaling Pathway in Rats.

Objective: Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 2 (NOD2) is the innate receptor of muramyl dipeptide (MDP). Our previous study revealed that MDP could enhance thermal injury-induced inflammatory cytokine production and organ function injury in rats. The present study was to determine the effect of MDP on autophagy and NOD2/receptor-interacting serine/threonine protein kinases (RICK) signaling pathway of lung injury after thermal injury.

NDM-1 encoded by a pNDM-HN380-like plasmid pNDM-BJ03 in clinical Enterobacter cloacae.

A carbapenemase-producing Enterobacter cloacae hhy03 with a bla and bla-coharboring plasmid was isolated from a sputum specimen of a patient. This is the third nucleotide sequence report of bla-harboring plasmid from Enterobacter cloacae that have caused lethal infections in China, indicating the spread of NDM-1 by IncX3 plasmid between Enterobacteriaceae.

Initiation and completion rates of inactivated hepatitis A vaccination among children born between 2005 and 2014 in Zhejiang province, east China.

Objectives: To evaluate the initiation and completion and timeliness of inactivated hepatitis A vaccine (HAV-I) series, to identify the missed opportunities for HAV-I series, and to examine determinants associated with the completion of HAV-I.

Methods: Children born from 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2014 and registered in Zhejiang provincial immunization information system (ZJIIS), were enrolled in this study. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the initiation and completion, the timeliness and the missed opportunities for HAV-I.

Improvement in prediction of prostate cancer prognosis with somatic mutational signatures.

Prostate cancer is a leading male malignancy worldwide, while the prognosis prediction remains quite inaccurate. The study aimed to observe whether there was an association between the prognosis of prostate cancer and genetic mutation profile, and to build an accurate prognostic predictor based on the genetic signatures. The patients diagnosed of prostate cancer from The Cancer Genomic Atlas were used for prognostic stratification, while the somatic gene mutation profiles were compared between different prognostic groups.

Glucocorticoids Suppress the Browning of Adipose Tissue via miR-19b in Male Mice.

Physiological levels of glucocorticoids (GCs) are required for proper metabolic control, and excessive GC action has been linked to a variety of pandemic metabolic diseases. MicroRNA (miRNA)-19b plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of GC-induced metabolic diseases. This study explored the potential of miRNA-based therapeutics targeting adipose tissue.

Aims: To investigate the association of several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within Protein tyrosine phosphatase nonreceptor type 22 () gene and additional gene- gene and gene- type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) interaction with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) risk in Chinese Uygur population.

Methods: A total of 722 participants (186 males, 536 females) were selected, including 360 PTB patients and 362 control participants. Generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) was used to screen the best interaction combination among SNPs and T2DM.

Levels, congener profiles, and dietary intake assessment of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/dibenzofurans and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls in beef, freshwater fish, and pork marketed in Guangdong Province, China.

Persistent organic pollutants such as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) consisting of non-ortho and mono-ortho PCBs are suggested to be very hazardous and have adverse effects on human health. However, their levels and congener profiles in retail foods marketed in Guangdong Province of China have not been elucidated thus far. Thus, in this study, 226 individual samples of beef, freshwater fish, and pork marketed across four regions of Guangdong Province were randomly collected during 2013-2015 to determine their levels of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs.
