The potent tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) alters many cellular processes through activation of its receptor protein kinase C (PKC), including gene expression, cell cycle, and the regulation of cell morphology, raising an important question for developing targeted methods to prevent cancer: which effects of TPA are crucial for carcinogenesis? To address this question, we studied TPA action in the 3-dimensional (3D) MCF10A human breast epithelial cell system, which models important features of in vivo epithelial tissue including growth constraints, structural organization of cells, and establishment of a basement membrane. MCF10A cells, which are immortalized but nontumorigenic, form hollow, spheroid structures in 3D culture referred to as acini. The development of normal acini requires the tight spatiotemporal regulation of cellular proliferation, polarization, apoptosis, and growth arrest.

Thus, we investigated these associations with a case-controlled study in northeast of China.
Methods: A total of 482 patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma and 3,068 healthy- controls were enrolled for the study between 2001 and 2012 at The Tumor Hospital of Harbin Medical University.
Ototoxic drug-induced apoptosis of inner ear cells has been shown to be associated with calpain expression. Cisplatin has severe ototoxicity, and can induce cochlear cell apoptosis. This study assumed that cisplatin activated calpain expression in apoptotic cochlear cells.

Recently, many studies have investigated the relationship between human atrial fibrillation and the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of rs1805127 (A>G) in KCNE1 gene, but the results were still inconsistent and inconclusive.
Method: Electronic databases and bibliographies of retrieved studies were searched.
With the development of bio-technological drugs, drug immunogenicity evaluation has become key factor of clarifying safety and efficacy of these drugs. It has become the focus to establish a stable and reliable evaluation system. Due to the advantages such as continuous real-time monitoring, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology has been widely used in bio-technological drugs immunogenicity assessments.

The hybrid nanostructure with nanoscroll buffered effect provides facile strain relaxation for swelling during lithiation/delithiation, resulting in the excellent structural stability and cyclability. The interior of nanoscrolls and the interconnected voids shorten the ion diffusion pathway, which greatly enhances the rate performance.

Methods: Chromosome karyotyping for peripheral blood culture and multi-PCR and FISH were performed.
Results: Endocrinological data showed that their endocrine hormone levels were similar to that observed for Klinefelter syndrome, with higher FSH and LH levels and lower T levels.

Objective: To analyze the various factors affecting the economic burden of disease in patients with epilepsy.
Methods: This research used a multi-stage random sampling method, comprehensive intervention and without intervention of the epilepsy project group conducted a field survey of health examination among patients with epilepsy of 874 (422 cases in intervention group and 452 cases in control group) in Mengzhou, Xiuwu, Yancheng, Yuanhui, Wuyang, Linying, Shaoling, Xinye and Fangcheng. DALY indicators combined with human capital approach was used to measure the economic burden of disease in patients from two aspects of the direct economic burden and indirect economic burden.

Objective: To discuss the cost-utility regarding the effect of comprehensive intervention program on epilepsy.
Methods: 874 cases with epilepsy were investigated in 9 pilot sites in Henan province. Cost of epilepsy comprehensive intervention was calculated based on the research projects of epilepsy prevention and management of rural areas.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of Endostar combined with chemotherapy on human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma Eca-109 in mice. The tumor xenograft models were established and randomly assigned to 4 groups: control group, Endostar group (1.5 mg/kg day, once daily for 3 weeks), chemotherapy group (Paclitaxel 10 mg/kg day, Cisplatin 5 mg/kg day, for 1, 7, 14, 21 days), and chemotherapy + Endostar group (combination).

A multitude of evidence suggests that iodinated contrast material causes nephrotoxicity; however, there have been no previous studies that use arterial spin labeling (ASL) blood flow functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the alterations in effective renal plasma flow between normointensive and hypertensive rats following injection of contrast media. We hypothesized that FAIR-SSFSE arterial spin labeling MRI may enable noninvasive and quantitative assessment of regional renal blood flow abnormalities and correlate with disease severity as assessed by histological methods. Renal blood flow (RBF) values of the cortex and medulla of rat kidneys were obtained from ASL images postprocessed at ADW4.

Materials And Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Controlled Trial Register were searched for randomized controlled trials. The risk ratio, mean difference, and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated for dichotomous and continuous outcomes, respectively.
Wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1) is a member of the protein phosphatase 2C family, which is characterized by distinctive oncogenic properties. Overexpression of Wip1 is observed in certain types of human tumors that are associated with significantly poor prognosis. This study aimed to detect the expression of Wip1 in gliomas and to analyze its prognostic value in the patients.

However, at the cellular level, little work has been done on visfatin expression in the cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Here, the authors investigated the expression and mechanisms of visfatin in angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in vitro by means of the cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes.

The therapeutic potential and efficacy of these antibodies are closely related to their affinities to ErbB2. Previously we reported that an anti-ErbB2 antibody A21 targeting a conformational epitope comprising several loops in ErbB2 extracellular subdomain I and II could inhibit the proliferation of ErbB2-overexpressing cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.

The wastewater from industrial smelting process contains heavy metals such as arsenic (As) that produce serious environmental pollution and cause actual harm to the health of people. It is necessary to control the pollution at the source and achieve a real-time and online monitoring. The laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a new elemental analysis technique, and has the advantage of rapid detection.
