The broad-spectrum fungicides mepanipyrim (Mep) and cyprodinil (Cyp) have been reported to be used worldwide to control gray mold of fruit crops. Consequently, they are often detected in the water and food items. However, the impacts and potential mechanisms of these two pesticides on environmental organisms remain unclear.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairments. Despite the limited efficacy of current treatments for AD, the 1,2,4-oxadiazole structure has garnered significant attention in medicinal chemistry due to its potential impact on mGluR1 and its association with AD therapy. In this study, a series of novel 1,2,4-oxadiazole derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for the neuroprotective effects in human neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells.

Heterogeneous phase combined flooding (HPCF) has been a promising technology used for enhancing oil recovery in heterogeneous mature reservoirs. However, the injectivity and propagation behavior of preformed particle gel (PPG) in low-medium-permeability reservoir porous media is crucial for HPCF treatment in a low-medium-permeability reservoir. Thus, the injectivity and propagation behavior of preformed particle gel in a low-medium-permeability reservoir were systematically studied by conducting a series of sand pack flooding experiments.

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the presence of neurodegenerative lesions and cognitive impairment. In this study, a series of novel palmatine derivatives were designed and synthesized through the introduction of a heteroatom using carbodiimide-mediated condensation. The synthesized compounds were then screened for toxicity and potency, leading to the identification of compound , which exhibited low toxicity and high potency.

Article Synopsis
  • The Henan Oilfield faces challenges with high temperatures and heterogeneity that make traditional flooding methods ineffective.
  • The starch gel and nano-MoS combination system offers an efficient solution for oil recovery by controlling fluid profiles and enhancing oil displacement in tough reservoir conditions.
  • Experimental results show that this combination significantly improves oil recovery rates in high-temperature reservoirs, effectively targeting unswept areas and overcoming the limitations of each individual method.

T lymphocytes are pivotal in adaptive immunity. The role of the trafficking protein particle complex (TRAPPC) in regulating T-cell development and homeostasis is unknown. Using CD4 -Trappc1 (Trappc1 cKO) mice, we found that Trappc1 deficiency in T cells significantly decreased cell number of naive T cells in the periphery, whereas thymic T-cell development in Trappc1 cKO mice was identical as WT mice.

Magnetic plug-type abrasive particle sensors have a wide range of applications in oil detection, but there is little literature on the effect of abrasive particle position on detection accuracy. In this paper, an alternating current (AC) bridge-type abrasive particle detection sensor is designed, in which the sensing module utilizes permanent magnets to attract iron particles, and the induction coil is specially designed to detect the magnetic field fluctuation caused by iron particles. A corresponding model was also designed to evaluate the sensor's sensitivity at different locations.

Background: Tripartite motif (TRIM46) is a relatively novel protein that belongs to tripartite motif family. TRIM46 organizes parallel microtubule arrays on the axons, which are important for neuronal polarity and axonal function. TRIM46 is highly expressed in the brain, but its biological function in adults has not yet been determined.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied how some parts of our immune system, called NETs, help fight infections but found we don't know much about how they form.
  • They discovered that blocking a protein called Wip1 helps white blood cells (neutrophils) make more NETs, which can fight off a bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus faster.
  • The study also showed that Wip1 connects with another protein called Coro1a, and this connection affects how well NETs are formed, suggesting that using Wip1 blockers might help us treat bacterial infections better.

Background: Multiple mitochondrial dysfunction syndromes (MMDS) are rare mitochondrial diseases caused by mutation of mitochondrial iron-sulfur cluster synthesis proteins. This study established a rat model simulating MMDS5 disease in the nervous system to investigate its pathological features and neuronal death.

Methods: We generated neuron-specific Isca1 knockout rat (Isca1 -NeuN-Cre) using CRISPR-Cas9 technology.

Hundreds of pathogenic variants of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) have been reported to cause mitochondrial diseases, which still lack effective treatments. It is a huge challenge to install these mutations one by one. We repurposed the DddA-derived cytosine base editor to incorporate a premature stop codon in the mtProtein-coding genes to ablate mitochondrial proteins encoded in the mtDNA (mtProteins) instead of installing pathogenic variants and generated a library of both cell and rat resources with mtProtein depletion.

An animal model harboring pathogenic mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations is important to understand the biological links between mtDNA variation and mitochondrial diseases. DdCBE, a DddA-derived cytosine base editor, has been utilized in zebrafish, mice, and rats for tC sequence-context targeting and human mitochondrial disease modeling. However, human pathogenic mtDNA mutations other than the tC context cannot be manipulated.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by propensity score matching (PSM) technique.

Methods: The clinical data of HCC patients treated with DEB-TACE in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2017 to June 2020 as well as their 36-month-follow-up data were retrospectively analyzed. The subjects were matched in pairs based on baseline data and laboratory indicators using the PSM method and divided into a pirarubicin group (n = 34), raltitrexed group (n = 34), and arsenic trioxide group (n = 34).

Bisphenol A (BPA) is putatively regarded as an environmental neurotoxicant found in everyday plastic products and materials, however, the possible neurobehavioral adverse consequences and molecular mechanisms in animals have not been clearly characterized. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans has become a promising animal model for neurotoxicological researches. To investigate the dose-effect relationships of BPA-induced neurotoxicity effects, the locomotion behavior and developmental parameters of the nematode were determined after BPA exposure.

Myeloid cell development in bone marrow is essential for the maintenance of peripheral immune homeostasis. However, the role of intracellular protein trafficking pathways during myeloid cell differentiation is currently unknown. By mining bioinformatics data, we identify trafficking protein particle complex subunit 1 (TRAPPC1) as continuously upregulated during myeloid cell development.
