Upgrading overall water splitting (OWS) system and developing high-performance electrocatalysts is an attractive way to the improve efficiency and reduce the consumption of hydrogen (H ) production from electrolyzed water. Here, a Pt cluster/Ir metallene heterojunction structure (Pt/Ir hetero-metallene) with a unique Pt/Ir interface is reported for the conversion of ethylene glycol (EG) to glycolic acid (GA) coupled with H production. With the assistance of ethylene glycol oxidation (EGOR), the Pt/Ir||Pt/Ir hetero-metallene two-electrode water electrolysis system exhibits a lower cell voltage of 0.

Ceria-based catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH (NH-SCR) are always subject to deactivation by sulfur poisoning. In this study, Fe-doped Ce-W mixed oxides, which were synthesized by the co-precipitation method, improved the SCR activity and SO durability at low temperatures of undoped Ce-W oxides. The improved low-temperature activity was mainly due to the enhancement of redox properties at low temperatures and more active oxygen species, together with the adsorption and activation of more abundant NO species, facilitating the "fast SCR" reaction.

Reward for altruism and punishment for selfishness are crucial components for the maintenance of society. Past studies have provided strong evidence that people are willing to incur costs to punish selfish behaviors and to reward altruistic behaviors, but how their willingness to do so depends on their relationship with the individuals conducting the anti-social or pro-social behaviors is much less explored. To probe into this question, we devised a three-stage experiment that combined a revised dictator game and third-party reward or punishment.

Moiré superlattices of semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides enable unprecedented spatial control of electron wavefunctions, leading to emerging quantum states. The breaking of translational symmetry further introduces a new degree of freedom: high symmetry moiré sites of energy minima behaving as spatially separated quantum dots. We demonstrate the superposition between two moiré sites by constructing a trilayer WSe/monolayer WS moiré heterojunction.

Rapid detection of various exosomes is of great significance in early diagnosis and postoperative monitoring of cancers. Here, a divisional optical biochip is reported for multiplex exosome analysis via combining the self-assembly of nanochains and precise surface patterning. Arising from resonance-induced near-field enhancement, the nanochains show distinct color changes after capturing target exosomes for direct visual detection.

Amorphous/crystalline (a/c) hetero-phase structures are considered as a class of efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), but it remains a substantial challenge to obtain the specific phase by phase-selective synthesis. In this work, a general route for the preparation of various heterogeneous aerogels (RuB, PtB, PdB, and RhB) consisting of amorphous and crystalline phases is presented through a controlled NaBH reduction method. The prepared a/c-RuB aerogel exhibits better HER performance due to their desirable compositional and structural advantages such as more exposed active sites, optimized electronic structure, and interfacial synergistic effects.

Objective: The pathogenesis of sepsis is complex, and the sepsis-induced systemic proinflammatory phase is one of the key drivers of organ failure and consequent mortality. (AKK) is recognised as a functional probiotic strain that exerts beneficial effects on the progression of many diseases; however, whether AKK participates in sepsis pathogenesis is still unclear. Here, we evaluated the potential contribution of AKK to lethal sepsis development.

Article Synopsis
  • Graphene films are emerging as effective moisture barriers for organic photonic devices and gas storage, but their current performance is not ideal.
  • Research shows that reducing the interlayer distance in stacked graphene is crucial for minimizing water permeation, resulting in significantly lower water vapor transmission rates.
  • The enhanced barrier performance is achieved by ensuring clean interfaces and proper contact between layers, which can lead to new applications and insights in the field of two-dimensional materials.

Background: Sorafenib resistance greatly reduces the efficacy of treatments in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, but the underlying mechanisms are not thoroughly understood. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), an anti-leukaemia agent, has attracted considerable attention due to its role in sensitizing cells to other anticancer treatments. We aimed to investigate the combined effect of ATRA and Sorafenib on HCC and the underlying mechanisms.

Among a variety of environmental factors, operative temperature, relative humidity and ventilation rate are generally considered to be factors that significantly affect work performance, and the interactions among these three factors were quantitatively studied in this paper. Eighteen participants were recruited to complete the neurobehavioral ability tests in different environments by central composite design, and their performance was analysed by regression fitting and multi-factor coupling analysis. By defining the interval coefficient β, the interaction effects between the factors were calculated quantitatively.

Transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) moiré superlattices, owing to the moiré flatbands and strong correlation, can host periodic electron crystals and fascinating correlated physics. The TMDC heterojunctions in the type-II alignment also enable long-lived interlayer excitons that are promising for correlated bosonic states, while the interaction is dictated by the asymmetry of the heterojunction. Here we demonstrate a new excitonic state, quadrupolar exciton, in a symmetric WSe-WS-WSe trilayer moiré superlattice.

Aryl fluorides are important structural motifs in many pharmaceuticals. Although the Balz-Schiemann reaction provides an entry to aryl fluorides from aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, it suffers from drawbacks such as long reaction time, high temperature, toxic solvent, toxic gas release, and low functional group tolerance. Here, we describe a general method for the synthesis of aryl fluorides from aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates using a piezoelectric material as redox catalyst under ball milling conditions in the presence of Selectfluor.

The CRISPR/Cas9 system is widely used for genome editing in livestock production, although off-target effects can occur. It is the main method to produce genome-edited goats by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) of CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome-edited primary goat fetal fibroblast cells (GFFs). Improving the double-strand break (DSB) efficiency of Cas9 in primary cells would improve the homologous repair (HR) efficiency.

The role that individual difference factors play in pragmatic learning behavior has received increasing attention in second-language (L2) pragmatics. However, there is a dearth of studies exploring the relationship between learners' motivational variables and their pragmatic production. To address this gap, the present study aims to examine a model of the ideal L2 self, self-efficacy, willingness to communicate (WTC), and pragmatic production among English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) learners.

This paper describes a unique molecular mechanism for the EPS-mediated synthesis of CdS QDs by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) under carbon source-induced reinforcement. Under the induced by carbon sources (HCOONa, CHCOONa and CHO), there was a significant increase in EPS production of SRB, particularly in protein, and the capacity of Cd(II) adsorption was further enhanced. CdS QDs were extracellularly synthesized by adding S after Cd(II) adsorption.

A copper-catalyzed trifluoromethylthio-arylsulfonylation between 1,3-enynes, AgSCF, aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, and SO (from SOgen) is presented, which could introduce sulfone, SCF, and allene moieties into one molecule simultaneously. This strategy features mild reaction conditions, good substrate compatibility, and excellent regioselectivity. The products obtained have the potential for further conversion into other valuable compounds.

Biomolecular markers, particularly circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in diagnosis, monitoring, and therapeutic intervention of cancers. However, existing detection strategies remain intricate, laborious, and far from being developed for point-of-care testing. Here, we report a portable colorimetric sensor that utilizes the hetero-assembly of nanostructures driven by base pairing and recognition for direct detection of miRNAs.

Despite its popularity as a one-shot Neural Architecture Search (NAS) approach, the applicability of differentiable architecture search (DARTS) on complex vision tasks is still limited by the high computation and memory costs incurred by the over-parameterized supernet. We propose a new architecture search method called EasyNAS, whose memory and computational efficiency is achieved via our devised operator merging technique which shares and merges the weights of candidate convolution operations into a single convolution, and a dynamic channel refinement strategy. We also introduce a configurable search space-to-supernet conversion tool, leveraging the concept of atomic search components, to enable its application from classification to more complex vision tasks: detection and semantic segmentation.
