Rare protein-coding variants in , which are causal for all known forms of genetic prion disease, have been ruled out in all VPSPr cases to date, leading to suspicion that VPSPr could be caused by variants in other genes or by non-coding variation in or near . We performed exome sequencing and targeted sequencing of non-coding regions on genomic DNA from autopsy-confirmed VPSPr patients (N=67) in order to search for a possible genetic cause.

Scanning electron microscopy and pore size analyses revealed that this core-shell with TDMBA/MMT interlayer maintained its nanofibrous morphology and larger pore structure more successfully than SF/PLLA nanofibrous membranes after treatment with 75% ethanol vapor. Transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses testified that the SF/PLLA-TDMBA/MMT nanofibers exhibited a core-shell with an interlayer structure, with SF/PLLA in the core-shell layer and TDMBA/MMT in the interlayer.

Graphite oxide (GO) and chitosan (CS) nanofibers have aroused intense interest as wound dressing due to their physicochemical, antimicrobial properties and nanotopography. In this study, GO nanosheets were coated on shell (chitosan, CS)-core (L-polylactic acid, PLLA) structured nanofibrous scaffolds to create a synergistic microenvironment for wound healing. Through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) tests, results showed that the surface of GO-coated CS/PLLA nanofibers presented corrugated wrinkles and rougher than that of CS/PLLA nanofibers, and the GO nanosheets did not destroy the structure of nanofibers.

As a novel delocalized lipophilic cation, F16 selectively accumulates in mitochondria of carcinoma cells and shows a broad spectrum of antiproliferative action towards cancer cell lines. In order to reveal the mode of action and molecular mechanism of F16 inducing cytotoxicity, we investigated the effects of F16 on cancer cells and isolated mitochondria relative to its precursor compound (E)-3-(2-(pyridine-4yl)vinyl)-1 H-indole (PVI), which has a similar structure without positive charge. It was found that PVI did not accumulate in mitochondria, and exhibited lower cytotoxicity compared to F16.
