Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) including rosiglitazone and pioglitazone function as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) full agonists, which have been known as a class to be among the most effective drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, side effects of TZDs such as fluid retention and weight gain are associated with their full agonistic activities toward PPARγ induced by the AF-2 helix-involved "locked" mechanism. To investigate the expressions of HIF-1α, BRD4, Beclin1, LC3B and p62 in breast cancer tissues and their clinicopathological significance, and to study alterations of their expression in breast cancer cells under hypoxic microenvironment. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect HIF-1α, BRD4, Beclin1, LC3B and p62 protein expressions in 125 breast cancer tissues and 50 para-cancer normal breast tissues, and their correlation with clinicopathologic characteristics were analyzed. The expression of these proteins were also measured after 24 hours of hypoxia stimulation was detected in different breast cancer cell lines and normal breast epithelial cells.

Herein, a novel Ce3+ self-doped CeOx/FeOCl composite was successfully prepared by a facile method for the first time, which showed remarkable catalytic activity as a Fenton catalyst in the degradation of phenol under the conditions of a neutral solution, room temperature and natural light. In CeOx/FeOCl, 5.23% CeOx is the optimal condition, and the degradation constant (k) of CeOx/FeOCl is greater than that of FeOCl by a factor of 10.

In this study we addressed the role of chirality in the biological activity of RC-33, recently studied by us in its racemic form. An asymmetric synthesis procedure was the first experiment, leading to the desired enantioenriched RC-33 but with an enantiomeric excess (ee) not good enough for supporting the in vitro investigation. An enantioselective high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) procedure was then successfully carried out, yielding both RC-33 enantiomers in amounts and optical purity suitable for the pharmacological study.
