Learning mechanisms and outcomes of an interprofessional molecular pathology workshop for residents.

The developments in targeted therapies and molecular pathology have changed the classification of tumors and precision oncology. Pathologists and clinical scientists in molecular pathology and oncologists have regular multidisciplinary meetings and are responsible for translating molecular results into an appropriate treatment plan. This requires expertise and skills to be effective team players.

Interprofessional learning in a student-run dental clinic: The effect on attitudes of students in oral healthcare.

The purpose of this study was to gain insight into change in attitudes held by students in oral healthcare about interprofessional learning and collaboration after one year of work in a student-run dental clinic (SRDC). Third- and fourth-year bachelor of dental hygiene students (n = 221) and first- and second-year master of dentistry students (n = 203) participated in baseline and follow-up measurements and completed 570 questionnaires. The Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) was used to measure changes in attitudes toward Interprofessional Education (IPE) during participation in the SRDC.

Career orientations of medical students: A Q-methodology study.

Introduction: In pursuing optimal health care, an adequate medical workforce is crucial. However, many countries are struggling with a misalignment of students' specialty preferences and societal needs regarding the future medical workforce. An innovative interprofessional dental clinical learning environment using entrustable professional activities.

Introduction: Changes in society, new public demands for dental care and contemporary educational insights have influenced dental education worldwide and demand a renewed perspective. Following this perspective, an innovative interprofessional dental Master curriculum was developed at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands.

Educational Principles: The curriculum is based on five contemporary educational principles and the core of the curriculum consists of a Student Run Dental Clinic that is fully run by students under professional supervision.

Teaching geriatrics using an innovative, individual-centered educational game: students and educators win. A proof-of-concept study.

Given the increasingly aging population, nearly every doctor will encounter elderly adults who present with multiple complex comorbidities that can challenge even experienced physicians. This may explain why many medical students do not have a positive attitude toward elderly adults and find the complexity of their problems overwhelming. It was hypothesized that a recently developed medical school geriatrics course, based on the game GeriatriX and designed specifically to address the complexities associated with decision-making in geriatrics, can have a positive effect on attitudes toward geriatrics and on perceived knowledge of geriatrics.

A randomized controlled trial on teaching geriatric medical decision making and cost consciousness with the serious game GeriatriX.

Objective: Medical students often lack training in complex geriatric medical decision making. We therefore developed the serious game, GeriatriX, for training medical decision making with weighing patient preferences, and appropriateness and costs of medical care. We hypothesized that education with GeriatriX would improve the ability to deal with geriatric decision making and also increase cost consciousness.

Introducing competency-based postgraduate medical education in the Netherlands.

Medical boards around the world face the challenge of creating competency-based postgraduate training programs. Recent legislation requires that all postgraduate medical training programmes in The Netherlands be reformed. In this article the Dutch Advisory Board for Postgraduate Curriculum Development shares some of their experiences with guiding the design of specialist training programs, based on the Canadian Medical Educational Directives for Specialists (CanMEDS).
