Aim: We investigated serum DNA methylation patterns in genomic repetitive elements, LINE-1 and Alu, for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cases and controls who were US military service members recently deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq.

Background: Renal kallikrein (KLK1) synthesis and urinary excretion are reportedly diminished during AKI (acute kidney injury) in animal models, and provision of kallikrein abrogates renal injury in this setting, but data in human AKI is limited. Therefore we first examined KLK1 renal excretion in human AKI, and then probed potential endocrine and epigenetic mechanisms for its alterations.

Vitrification has been widely used as an assisted reproductive technology in animals and humans, yet the impact of oocyte vitrification and warming on survival and histone modifications has to be evaluated. In the present study, the survival of mouse MII oocytes was assessed after freezing, as were changes in histone 3 lysine 9 (H3K9) dimethylation, histone 4 lysine 5 (H4K5) acetylation and histone 3 lysine 14 (H3K14) acetylation. The results show that, in oocytes subjected to vitrification, H3K9 methylation and H4K5 acetylation were increased.

By using the mixed major gene plus polygene inheritance model of quantitative traits, a joint analysis of four-generations obtained after cross between two monoecious inbred lines was made to study the inheritance of parthenocarpy in monoecious cucumber in Jiangning (Nanjing) and Changli (Hebei). The interactions between genotype and environment were detected, and the inheritance of parthenocarpy in the monoecious cucumber was fitted in E-1-1 model and controlled by two additive-dominant-epistatic major genes and additive-dominant polygene under different eco-environments. The F1 tendency and genetic parameters of the parthenocarpy were different, and the major gene heritability of F2 ranged from 42.

Objective: To observe the effect of the lentiviral vectors expressing small interfering RNA (siRNA) for survivin gene knockdown in inhibiting Hep-2 cell growth in vitro and its tumorigenicity in nude mice.

Methods: The tumorigenicity of Hep-2 cells transfected with the siRNA mediated by the lentiviral vectors was tested in nude mice. Methylation of CpG islands in gene promoter regions is a major molecular mechanism of gene silencing and underlies both cancer development and progression. In molecular oncology, testing for the CpG methylation of tissue DNA has emerged as a clinically useful tool for tumor detection, outcome prediction, and treatment selection, as well as for assessing the efficacy of treatment with the use of demethylating agents and monitoring for tumor recurrence. In addition, because CpG methylation occurs early in pre-neoplastic tissues, methylation tests may be useful as markers of cancer risk in patients with either infectious or inflammatory conditions.

In China, the tobamovirus that infects oilseed rape has been misdiagnosed as Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) based on its morphological similarity and serological relatedness. Recently, a tobamovirus has been isolated from oilseed rape in China, which we named Youcai mosaic virus Br (YoMV-Br), according to its biological and molecular characteristics. It had strong infectivity to Cruciferae but less to Solanaceae, Leguminosae, and Cucurbitaceae, and its virion morphology was consistent with that of the tobamoviruses.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effects and life quality of 43 cases with carcinomas in maxillary sinus by sequent combination therapy.

Method: All the patients were subjected sequent and combination therapy, which included inductive chemotherapy through superficial temporal artery, operation and radical radiation therapy, and of these, 18 patients were added consolidation chemotherapy after combination therapy. Three year survival rate, 5- year survival rate and life quality were observed in a 5 years follow up.
