Intramuscular fat (IMF) is a key indicator of chicken meat quality and emerging studies have indicated that the gut microbiome plays a key role in animal fat deposition. However, the potential metabolic mechanism of gut microbiota affecting chicken IMF is still unclear. Fifty-one broiler chickens were collected to identify key cecal bacteria and serum metabolites related to chicken IMF and to explore possible metabolic mechanisms.

Growth performance is an important economic trait of broilers but the related serum metabolomics remains unclear. In this study, we utilized non-targeted metabolomics using ultra-high-performance liquid phase tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) to establish metabolite profiling in the serum of Chinese Wumeng black-bone chickens. The biomarker metabolites in serum associated with growth performance of chickens were identified by comparing the serum metabolome differences between chickens that significantly differed in their weights at 160 days of age when fed identical diets.

Background: The gut microbiome plays a key role in the formation of livestock and poultry traits via serum metabolites, and empirical evidence has indicated these traits are sex-linked.

Methods: We examined 106 chickens (54 male chickens and 52 female chickens) and analyzed cecal content samples and serum samples by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and non-targeted metabolomics, respectively.

Results: The cecal microbiome of female chickens was more stable and more complex than that of the male chickens.

Oxidative stability is a key quality characteristic of edible oils, and the oil's antioxidant capacity decreases during the deodorization stage. This study explores the changes in radical formation, molecular structure, oxidative characteristics, fatty acids, and main bioactive compounds in soybean oil during deodorization. The lag phase decreased, whereas the total amount of spins of free radicals increased as the deodorization time increased from 90 to 150 min.

Hydrogen fluoride (HF) is a versatile reagent for material transformation, with applications in self-immolative polymers, remodeled siloxanes, and degradable polymers. The responsive generation of HF in materials therefore holds promise for new classes of adaptive material systems. Here, we report the mechanochemically coupled generation of HF from alkoxy--difluorocyclopropane (DFC) mechanophores derived from the addition of difluorocarbene to enol ethers.

The infrared spectroscopy (IR) signal of protein is prone to being covered by impurity signals, and the accuracy of the secondary structure content calculated using spectral data is poor. To tackle this challenge, a rapid high-precision quantitative model for protein secondary structure was proposed. Firstly, a two-dimensional correlation calculation was performed based on 60 groups of soybean protein isolates (SPI) infrared spectroscopy data, resulting in a two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy (2DCOS-IR).

  • Lysine-rich rice bran protein (RBP) underwent alkylation modification to enhance its self-assembly properties, with successful attachment of alkyl chains confirmed through various analyses.
  • The modified protein, referred to as ARBP-2, exhibited increased hydrophobicity and a more porous structure, making it suitable for embedding curcumin.
  • Curcumin had an encapsulation efficiency of 82.67% within the ARBP-2 matrix, demonstrating that the self-assembled particles effectively protected curcumin during the process.

Enhancing resource cities' resilience and advancing their sustainable development are imperatives, particularly in light of the "dual-carbon" agenda. Double-difference and spatial double-difference models are developed based on the panel data of 281 Chinese cities from 2005 to 2020 to investigate the effects of implementing the National Plan for the Sustainable Development of Resource-Based Cities on the level of ecological resilience in Chinese cities. This paper found that the National Sustainable Development Plan for Resource-Based Cities significantly improves the ecological resilience level of Chinese cities, and the findings are robust.

The resource utilization of industrial lignin to construct high-performance catalysts for wastewater treatment field is pioneering research. Herein, the novel graphitized carbon-supported CuCoAl-layered double oxides (LDOs-GC) were successfully designed by the domain-limited thermal transformation technology using sodium lignosulfonate (LS) self-assembled CuCoAl-layered double hydroxides as the precursor. The optimized LDOs-GC catalyst owned the excellent tetracycline (TC) degradation of 98.

  • Sn-Glycerol-3-phosphatidylcholine (GPC) was synthesized from phosphatidylcholine (PC) using phospholipase A (PLA) in a hydrolysis reaction, leading to the production of conjugated linoleic acid lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC-CLA) through esterification with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).
  • * The study explored how different conditions, like enzyme concentration, pH, temperature, and time, affected the conversion of PC and the rates at which acyl groups migrated.
  • * The best conditions found for maximum esterification were an enzyme loading of 15%, a CLA/GPC molar ratio of 50:1, and specific pressure settings,

  • - The study explored how moderate electric field (MEF) treatment affects the aggregation of soybean 7S globulin, comparing it to conventional water bath methods.
  • - Results showed that MEF treatment significantly improved solubility, turbidity, and particle size, indicating better aggregate properties than untreated globulin at an electric field strength of 8 V/cm.
  • - Structural analysis revealed that MEF treatment altered the protein's spatial configuration, reducing β-sheet content and exposing buried Try residues, which enhanced surface hydrophobicity and improved foaming properties.

Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-THC) in hemp seed oil is a psychoactive cannabinoid, and the content of Δ-THC can be reduced. Density functional theory (DFT) was used to simulate the degradation path of Δ-THC, and the ultrasonic treatment was used to degrade the Δ-THC in hemp seed oil. Results found that the reaction of Δ-THC degradation to cannabinol (CBN) was a spontaneous exothermic reaction, which required a certain amount of external energy to initiate reaction process.

This study uses the green finance reform and innovation pilot zone policy approved by the State Council in 2017 as a quasi-natural experiment to explore whether the implementation of the policy has improved the level of green finance development and environmental quality in Chinese cities at the prefecture level and above. The results show that the green financial reform and innovation pilot zone policy can significantly improve the level of regional green financial development and environmental quality, and the results are robust. Further heterogeneity analysis finds that the green financial reform and innovation pilot zone policy have heterogeneous effects on the level of green financial development and environmental quality in different regions, sizes, environmental regulation intensity, financial development levels, and cities of different administrative levels.

Using sunflower oil as the oil matrix, the antioxidant effects and types of interactions of three natural components, α-tocopherol, β-carotene and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), were investigated and the kinetic model of oxidation reaction was established. The results showed that the ability of the three antioxidants to scavenge DPPH radicals was ranked as EGCG > β-carotene > α-tocopherol in the concentration range of 0~100 mg/kg. 15 samples were obtained by combining two of three natural components.

We report the mechanochemical reactivity of the highly strained pentacyclic hydrocarbon cubane. The mechanical reactivity of cubane is explored for three regioisomers with 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-substituted pulling attachments. Whereas all compounds can be activated thermally, mechanical activation is observed via pulsed ultrasonication of cubane-containing polymers only when force is applied via 1,2-attachment.
