We report a new strategy to construct porous carbon nitride (PCN) by embedding a heptazine unit-the primary building block of carbon nitride-into the backbone of a covalent organic framework (COF). The strategy results in a new type of PCN which bears a fibrous morphology, high surface area and wide visible absorption. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated by photodegradation of an organic dye.

A new method for the stereoselective synthesis of tetrasubstituted olefins is described. β-Ketophosphonates are alkylated via conventional methods, and a Grignard reagent is used to diastereoselectively add to the carbonyl group of the resulting intermediates. The elimination of hydroxyl phosphonates yielded the desired tetrasubstituted olefins in a stereoselective manner.

CO capture under a dynamical flow situation requires adsorbents possessing balanced proportion of macropores as diffusion path and micropores as adsorption reservoir. However, the construction of interconnected micro-/macropores structure coupled with abundant nitrogen species into one carbon skeleton remains a challenge. Here, we report a new approach to prepare sponge-like carbon with a well-developed micro-/macroporous structure and enriched nitrogen species through aqueous phase polymerization of acrylonitrile in the presence of graphene oxide.

Circulating tumour cell (CTC) behaviours are distinct from those of bulk tissues. Thus, treatments to eliminate CTCs differ from the regimens followed to reduce the primary tumour and its metastases. Accordingly, comprehensively deciphering the single nucleotide variant (SNV) profiles in CTCs, which partially determine CTC behaviours, is a priority.

BACKGROUND Berberine, a herbal extract, has been reported to protect against inflammatory disorders. The adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway can be activated by berberine and inhibited by the synthetic, reversible AMP-competitive inhibitor, Compound C. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of berberine on concanavalin A (Con A)-induced autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) in mice via the AMPK pathway.

Porphyrinic iron metal-organic framework (pFeMOF) was combined with different kinds of carbon matrices, including porous graphene (PG), ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) and macroporous carbon (MPC) via a simple one-step hydrothermal method. The introduction of carbon substrates improves the electrical conductivity and stability of pFeMOF. The presence of carbon also reduces the size of pFeMOF crystallites, leading to more active sites.

Graphene (GR) is one of the most promising candidates for utilization in the electroanalytical field because of its superior electrocatalytic activity, excellent electronic conductivity, and high chemical stability. However, the GR sheets usually tend to stack together with π-π interaction. The spontaneous stacking leads to the aggregation of the GR sheets and imposes a negative feedback in the surface area of the GR, which obviously limits its electrochemical application.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and KRAS gene are important driver genes of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The studies are mainly focused on detection of EGFR gene for advanced NSCLC, and the mutation feature of EGFR and KRAS gene in early NSCLC tissue is unknown. This study aims to investigate the mutations of EGFR and KRAS gene in NSCLC, and the relationship between the genotype and clinicopathologic features.

Covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) are normally synthesized by ionothermal methods. The harsh synthetic conditions and associated limited structural diversity do not benefit for further development and practical large-scale synthesis of CTFs. Herein we report a new strategy to construct CTFs (CTF-HUSTs) via a polycondensation approach, which allows the synthesis of CTFs under mild conditions from a wide array of building blocks.

This study observed the efficacy and safety of JinqiJiangtang tablets (JQJT tablets, a traditional Chinese patent medicine) for pre-diabetes. Four hundred patients with pre-diabetes at five centres were treated for 12months and followed for an additional 12months to investigate the preventative effects of JQJT tablets (Registration ID: ChiCTR-PRC-09000401). The incidence rate of diabetes mellitus was the primary endpoint.

In this study, novel ZIF-67@carbon fiber composites were fabricated by a simple and facile approach. In order to explore the influence of carbon fiber structure on enhancing the electrocatalytic efficiency of the ZIF-67, different structural carbon fibers (hollow porous carbon fiber (PCF) and solid carbon fiber (SCF)) were used for preparing ZIF-67/carbon fiber catalysts. ZIF-67/carbon fiber composites were characterized via X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical methods.

The zirconium-based MOF (UiO-66)/mesoporous carbon (MC) composite was synthesized using conventional hydrothermal method for the first time. The surface morphology and structure of UiO-66/MC composite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A novel electrochemical sensor based on UiO-66/MC was constructed for simultaneous and sensitive determination of dihydroxybenzene isomers (DBIs) of hydroquinone (HQ), catechol (CT) and resorcinol (RS).

Myocardial remodeling serves an important role in the pathophysiology of coronary heart disease. The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)2-angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang (1‑7)]‑Mas receptor (MasR) axis is a key regulator in myocardial remodeling and development of heart failure. To investigate how ACE2‑Ang‑(1‑7)‑MasR axis function on myocardial remodeling and cardiac fibrosis in post‑myocardial infarction (MI), male Sprague‑Dawley rats (weight, 200±20 g) were used to establish the model of myocardial infarction by ligating the left coronary artery.

West Nile virus (WNV) is a neurotropic pathogen which causes zoonotic disease in humans. Recently, there have been an increasing number of infected cases and there are no clinically approved vaccines or effective drugs to treat WNV infections in humans. The purpose of this study was to facilitate vaccine and antiviral drug discovery by developing a packaging cell line-restricted WNV infectious replicon particle system.

Human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs) have the potential to undergo fibrogenic endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT), which results in matrix-producing fibroblasts and thereby contributes to the pathogenesis of cardiac fibrosis. Recently, the profibrotic cytokine transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is shown to be the crucial pathogenic driver which has been verified to induce EndMT. C-Ski is an important regulator of TGF-β signaling.

The RNA editing occurring in plant organellar genomes mainly involves the change of cytidine to uridine. This process involves a deamination reaction, with cytidine deaminase as the catalyst. Pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins with a C-terminal DYW domain are reportedly associated with cytidine deamination, similar to members of the deaminase superfamily.
