Introduction: Timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial for the effective treatment and prevention of brucellosis. Current serological diagnostics, primarily based on lipopolysaccharide (LPS), suffer from cross-reactivity with other Gram-negative bacteria, which limits their specificity. Periplasmic protein 26 (BP26), a highly immunogenic antigen found in , has emerged as a promising alternative for enhancing diagnostic specificity.

Skeletal muscle satellite cells (SMSCs) are critical for postnatal skeletal muscle growth and regeneration. Adiponectin plays a pivotal role in regulating muscle glucose uptake and fatty acid metabolism. However, its function in the proliferation and differentiation of chicken SMSCs remains poorly understood.

Oxygen vacancy (OV) defect engineering plays a crucial role in enhancing photocatalytic efficiency. However, the direct visual characterization of oxygen vacancies still remains technically limited. Herein, a bismuth titanate (BiTiO, BTO-OV) model photocatalyst containing oxygen vacancies is constructed through density functional theory (DFT) calculations to reveal the influence mechanism of distinctive periodic quantum well and oxygen vacancies on the charge transfer behavior in BTO.

Objective: To investigate the clinical phenotype and molecular pathogenic mechanism of a hereditary coagulation factor V deficiency (FⅤD) family.

Methods: A phase I assay was used to measure coagulation factors II, V, VII, VIII, IX, X, Ⅺ, Ⅻ (FⅡ∶C, FⅤ∶C, FⅦ∶C, FⅧ∶C, FⅨ∶C, FⅩ∶C, FⅪ∶C, FⅫ∶C), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and prothrombin time (PT) to determine the clinical phenotype and molecular pathogenesis of F VD. Prothrombin time (PT) were used for phenotypic identification; high-throughput exome sequencing was applied to screen the whole gene variants, and Sanger sequencing was used to verify the suspected variants in gene; MutationTaster, PolyPhen-2 bioinformatics software was used to predict the pathogenicity of the variants, ClustalX software was used to analyze the amino acid conservatism, and PyMol software was used to simulate the model of the mutant protein.

Mountains have been recognized as biodiversity hotspots and possess strong elevational gradients. Whether these gradients exhibit similar characteristics in the multidimensional diversity patterns across different mountain ranges is a subject of inquiry. Exploring the elevational patterns of the diversity and phylogenetic information of plant species in the different subtropical mountains is necessary.

A magnetic field-assisted freezing system was developed to mitigate the degradation of taste quality in frozen cooked rice (FCR). The physicochemical properties and starch structure were analyzed under varying magnetic field types, intensities, and cryostasis time. The analysis of freezing characteristics indicated that treatments with 10 mT static magnetic fields (SMF) and 6 mT alternating magnetic fields (AMF) yielded optimal results, significantly reducing the duration of the maximum ice crystal generation zone by approximately 18 min.

Background And Aims: The pathological characteristics of lymphocyte infiltration in the hepatic portal tracts of patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) remain unclear. Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) are ectopic lymphoid tissues associated with the exacerbation of autoimmune reactions. Here, we evaluate the role of TLSs in PBC and investigate their potential therapeutic value.

-methyladenosine (mA)-modified mRNAs and their cytoplasmic reader YTHDFs are colocalized with stress granules (SGs) under stress conditions, but the interplay between mA modification and SG stability remains unclear. Here, we presented a spatiotemporal mA imaging system (SMIS) that can monitor the mA modification and the translation of mRNAs with high specificity and sensitivity in a single live cell. SMIS showed that mA-modified reporter mRNAs dynamically enriched into SGs under arsenite stress and gradually partitioned into the cytosol as SG disassembled.

A nonthermal pretreatment using dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma (DBD-CP) was developed to improve the stress resistance of paddy rice during postharvest storage. The physicochemical properties, bioactive characteristics, and secondary metabolites of paddy rice were assessed after applying an optimized DBD-CP procedure, with enzyme activities and gene expression monitored over a 60 day storage period at 35 °C. Smoking among persons living with HIV infection (PLWH) is estimated to be 2-3 times greater than that in the general population. Data suggest that cigarette smoking is more common among PLWH because of several factors, including lower socioeconomic status, previous, or concurrent illicit drug and alcohol use, younger age, lower education level, and concomitant depressive symptoms. Cigarette smoking among PLWH has been associated with a higher risk of certain cancers and infections as well as lowered response to antiretroviral therapy.

In this work, we synthesized composites of ferrous disulfide and tin disulfide with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using a straightforward hydrothermal method. The incorporation of carbon nanotubes significantly enhanced the dielectric loss capability of the composites. When the filling ratio of FeS/SnS@CNTs (20 wt%) in paraffin was 40%, the effective absorption bandwidth was 3.

Brucellosis, caused by Gram-negative Brucella, spreads in human and animal populations through contact with infected animals and products. Developing a rapid and sensitive detection technology for pathogen is crucial to reduce the risk of this disease transmitting between animal populations and to humans. We produced a monoclonal antibody LPS-6B5, which shows high affinity to LPS and limited cross-reactivity with other bacteria.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the necessity and importance of dynamic hydration rate and ultimate viscosity control of konjac glucomannan (KGM) for long-term antiobesity effects in C57BL/6J mice on high-fat (HF) diets. KGM supplementation effectively attenuated HF-diet-induced increases in body and tissue weights. The hydration rate and viscosity changes of KGM in the digestive tract were found to have marked impacts on antiobesity effects.

Article Synopsis
  • - Heavy metal contamination in rice, particularly from cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As), poses serious health risks, with 1754 samples analyzed to identify pollution trends and sources related to environmental and socioeconomic factors.
  • - Positive matrix factorization (PMF) models revealed that industrial activities, especially mining and transportation, account for 75.6% of Cd and lead (Pb) pollution, while agriculture and natural factors contribute to the remaining 24.4% of arsenic pollution.
  • - The study emphasizes that rapid industrialization enhances the risk of heavy metals in rice, highlighting the necessity for effective government policies to manage and mitigate these health risks associated with heavy metal exposure.

The hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis regulates egg laying through control hormones secretion in poultry. In this study, the serum hormones (12 samples per stage), serum biochemical indexes (12 samples per stage), and ovarian metabolites (8 samples per stage) of Muscovy breeder ducks were detected at prelaying stage (PT), start of laying stage (ST), high laying stage (HT), and the end of laying stage (ET). The serum hormones of Muscovy ducks were measured at 8:00, 13:00, 18:00, 23:00, and 4:00 within 1 d.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a widely used treatment for a variety of hematopoietic disorders, and also provides a valuable platform for investigating the development of donor-derived immune cells in recipients post-HSCT. The immune system remodels from the donor to the recipient during allo-HSCT. However, little is known about the cell profile alterations as donor homeostasis rebalances to recipient homeostasis following HSCT.
