Electromagnetic (EM) wave pollution and thermal damage pose serious hazards to delicate instruments. Functional aerogels offer a promising solution by mitigating EM interference and isolating heat. However, most of these materials struggle to balance thermal protection with microwave absorption (MA) efficiency due to a previously unidentified conflict between the optimizing strategies of the two properties.

  • Chinese medicinal fungi known as "Sanghuang" have a long history of recognized medicinal properties, but similar-looking fungi have often been mistakenly used in traditional medicine.
  • A study highlights the limitations of previous taxonomic methods for differentiating true Sanghuang fungi from Sanghuang-like fungi in the genera Porodaedalea, Phellinus, and Inonotus.
  • Utilizing mitogenomes, the research demonstrates distinct genetic characteristics that help classify these fungi more accurately, supporting the reclassification of Phellinus gilvus S12 as Sanghuangporus vaninii and providing tools for further research on these species.

Creating specific noble metal/metal-organic framework (MOF) heterojunction nanostructures represents an effective strategy to promote water electrolysis but remains rather challenging. Herein, a heterojunction electrocatalyst is developed by growing Ir nanoparticles on ultrathin NiFe-MOF nanosheets supported by nickel foam (NF) via a readily accessible solvothermal approach and subsequent redox strategy. Because of the electronic interactions between Ir nanoparticles and NiFe-MOF nanosheets, the optimized Ir@NiFe-MOF/NF catalyst exhibits exceptional bifunctional performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) (η = 15 mV, η denotes the overpotential) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) (η = 213 mV) in 1.

Mushrooms have been utilized by humans for thousands of years due to their medicinal and nutritional properties. They are a crucial natural source of bioactive secondary metabolites, and recent advancements have led to the isolation of several alkynyl-containing compounds with potential medicinal uses. Despite their relatively low abundance, naturally occurring alkynyl compounds have attracted considerable attention due to their high reactivity.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on bird's nest fungi, a group of mushrooms with medicinal properties in Chinese medicine, and conducts the first comprehensive analysis of their mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes).
  • - Researchers analyzed five species with circular mitogenomes ranging in size, revealing both structural similarities within the family and genetic diversity across related groups.
  • - Phylogenetic analyses provided insights into evolutionary relationships and the genetic uniqueness of these fungi, contributing to a better understanding of fungal mitogenomes overall.

species are among the filamentous fungi with the most pronounced impact on agricultural production and human health. The mycotoxins produced by pathogenic not only attack various plants including crops, causing various plant diseases that lead to reduced yields and even death, but also penetrate into the food chain of humans and animals to cause food poisoning and consequent health hazards. Although sporadic studies have revealed some of the biosynthetic pathways of toxins, they are insufficient to satisfy the need for a comprehensive understanding of toxin production.

Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins regulate many important eukaryotic cellular processes through reversible covalent conjugation to target proteins. In addition to its many well-known biological consequences, like subcellular translocation of protein, subnuclear structure formation, and modulation of transcriptional activity, we show here that SUMO-2 also plays a role in mRNA translation. SUMO-2 promoted formation of the active eukaryotic initiation factor 4F (eIF4F) complex by enhancing interaction between Eukaryotic Initiation Factor 4E (eIF4E) and Eukaryotic Initiation Factor 4G (eIF4G), and induced translation of a subset of proteins, such as cyclinD1 and c-myc, which essential for cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Gliosarcoma is a rare brain tumor consisting of both glial and mesenchymal components. Metastatic gliosarcoma is rare; however, here we report a 31-year-old Chinese woman with cranial gliosarcoma metastatic to the liver, lymph nodes and the spinal cord. Initially, the patient presented with dizziness, headache and vomiting and after surgery and histological examination, was diagnosed with cranial gliosarcoma.

Percutaneous glycerol injection into Meckel's cavity is widely used to treat trigeminal neuralgia. Reports published to date summarized clinical experiences in small or intermediately sized groups of patients. The efficacy of this procedure in a large group of patients has not been evaluated so far.

Esophageal cancer is characterized by rapid clinical progression and poor prognosis due to adjacent tissue invasion and distant organs metastasis at a very early stage. TM4SF3 (transmembrane 4 superfamily 3), a member of tetraspanin family, has been reported as a metastasis associated gene in many types of tumors. Herein, we described new properties of TM4SF3 in tumor metastasis, which suggested that this gene might be involved in esophageal carcinoma metastasis.
