This study was aimed to investigate the anti-angiogenesis of IFN-alpha2b in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in vitro by using K562 cell line and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). The levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in culture supernatant of K562 cells were determined by ELISA; the expressions of VEGF and bFGF mRNA after treating K562 cells with 10(3), 10(2) and 10 U/ml IFN-alpha2b for 24, 36, 48 hours were detected by real-time RT-PCR; the effects of K562 cell culture supernatant and IFN-alpha2b on proliferation, migration and differentiation of HUVEC in vitro were assayed by MTT, Transwell chamber and tubule formation assay respectively. The results showed that the K562 cells expressed and secreted VEGF and bFGF.

It was found that such a modified polysaccharide could exhibit an unique photogelation ability in the absence of potentially toxic photoinitiator or catalyst and be suitable particularly for the in situ preparation of photocrosslinked hydrogel biomaterials. By changing the photoirradiation time and incorporated nitrocinnamate content, its photogelation property could be modulated.

Objective: To evaluate the dual-labeling efficiency of magnetic and luminescent quantum dots bifunctional nanoparticles to rat bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC).
Methods: Rat BMSC were isolated, purified, and expanded. Magnetic/luminescent bifunctional nanoparticles (Fe(3)O(4)@CdTe@SiO(2)), were prepared by using silicon dioxide (SiO(2)) to encapsulate simultaneously Fe(3)O(4) and CdTe quantum dots.
The enzyme-dependent conjugates of indomethacin and amylose (Am-IND) were synthesized at room temperature using N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a coupling agent and 4-(N,N'-dimethylamino) pyridine (DMAP) as a catalyst. Their structures were characterized by FTIR and (1)H NMR analyses, and the results indicated that the IND residues were conjugated with amylose backbones through ester bonds. For the conjugate with a lower IND content, the better water absorption property was advantageous for enzymes diffusing into the swollen conjugate, resulting in biodegradation of the conjugates and release of IND.

Dose-response curves of the haemolytic activity of TOE in vitro were sigmoid shaped in both erythrocyte suspension and diluted whole blood, with the former more sensitive to TOE. The in vivo haemolysis increased sharply in the first 10 min and was followed by a gradual increase in the following 3h, with increasing blood potassium and lactic acid accordingly.

Methods: The expression of Cx32 and Cx43 was detected by Western blot and immunohistochemistry in 14 consecutive samples of hippocampus from epileptic patients undergoing an amygdalohippocampectomy for the treatment of intractable seizures. During postmortem dissection, 8 samples of hippocampus in nonepileptic patients dying of other diseases were taken as control group.
Previous studies in our laboratory have shown that tentacle-only extract (TOE) has similar hypotensive effects with nematocyst venom from jellyfish Cyanea capillata, and the experimental studies on the in vivo cardiovascular effects of TOE were further performed to explore the leading cause of death and analyze the basic physiopathologic change in anaesthztized SD rats. Plots of TOE dose versus time to death showed dose-dependent curvilinear relationship. ECG changed in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

Objective: To report the operative techniques and clinical results of the free peroneal artery perforator sural neurocutaneous flaps.
Methods: Free sural neurocutaneous flap with a single unit of perforating veins and artery arising from the peroneal artery was designed to repair skin defects of hand or from the ankle to distal end of the foot. After the flap was transposed to the defect, the perforating artery was anastomosed with a branch of a nearby artery, and the small saphenous vein was anastomosed with the cephalic vein or the great saphenous vein to establish the flap's circulation.
This study is to explore a behavioral and pathological model for depression in mice, and evaluate the anti-depressant-like effect of agmatine. Neonatal Kunming mice were treated with fluoxetine (10 mg x kg(-1), ip, qd) for 17 d (between day 4 and 21 after birth), and then the mice were normally housed till being adult (about 10 weeks after birth). The behaviors of the mice were measured by using open-field test, novelty suppressed feeding test and tail-suspension test.

The results showed that CH4 emissions of the polygon-based soil database of 1:50000, which contained 52034 polygons of paddy soils representing 1107 paddy soil profiles extracted from the latest national soil map (1:50000), were located within the ranges produced by the county-based soil database of 1:50000. However, total emissions of the whole area differed by about 1680 Gg CH4-C.

It was found that the biopolymer used could act as an effective accelerator for the sol-gel transition of GMT and an increase of its amount could shorten greatly the gelation time. For such a gelation reaction, its apparent activation energy was determined to be 64.

The results show that organic carbon mineralization rates of soil with litters all involve fast and slow decomposition stages, and the differences are that the former has shorter duration, more daily decomposition quantity while the latter is opposite. Organic carbon mineralization rates of soil with litters rapidly reached maximum in the early days of incubation, and the order is soil with Cynodon dactylon litter (CK + BMD) (23.

Recent evidence suggested, at least in some animal models, that the behavioral effects of chronic antidepressant treatment were mediated by the stimulation of hippocampal neurogenesis. In situ crosslinkable hydrogel formed from an amphiphilic amylopectin-based hydrogelator in aqueous solution was investigated with respect to its viscoelasticity, structure as well as protein encapsulation and release. Different from the physical hydrogel formed from an aqueous amylopectin system of sufficiently high concentration, such a hydrogel could be formed rapidly at room temperature and exhibit enhanced viscoelastic properties, mechanical strength, and shear thinning behavior. In addition, it has a more complex network structure with a higher fractal dimension due to intermolecular hydrophobic interactions and macromolecular chain entanglements.

A protein-based hydrogel with tunable gelation time and mechanical strength was obtained by the hydrogelation of soy protein isolate (SPI) in the presence of microbial transglutaminase (MTGase). In order to control the gelation process and understand the relationship between the property and network structure of the formed SPI hydrogel, the changes of viscoelastic properties with time during the gelation process were monitored by the use of dynamic rheometry. The measurements were carried out at different protein concentrations, enzyme amounts, and reaction temperatures to clarify their effects on the gelation kinetics.

Raman analysis indicated that the amylose-SWNTs supramolecular assembly was formed after the polymerization and SEM images displayed the twisted ribbons in the SWNTs wrapped by amylose. The dispersion stability of the SWNTs in aqueous solutions was improved by the wrapping of short-chain amylose molecules around the SWNTs.

For the fabrication of magnetically supramolecular hydrogels, the aqueous colloidal dispersion of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles was first stabilized by an amphiphilic poly(epsilon-caprolactone)-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG-PCL) block copolymer and then mixed with an aqueous solution of a cyclic oligosaccharide. Due to the host-guest interaction between the used block copolymer and the cyclic oligosaccharide in the aqueous mixed system, such a fabrication process could result in the formation of a novel hydrogel nanocomposite with superparamagnetic property, as confirmed by the analyses from rheology and X-ray diffraction as well as magnetization curve measurements. For the resultant magnetically supramolecular hydrogel, its formation kinetics and mechanical strength could be modulated by the amount of the used PEG-PCL block copolymer, the cyclic oligosaccharide, or the incorporated iron oxide nanoparticles.
