Article Synopsis
  • Post-operative heart transplant patients may need ICU care, and predicting their length of stay (ICU-LOS) can help improve treatment and reduce mortality rates; non-linear models show better prediction accuracy than conventional linear ones.
  • * Clinical data from 365 patients was analyzed to assess various factors influencing ICU-LOS, using machine learning models, including LASSO regression for feature selection and SHAP values for interpreting results; an online tool was created for clinician use.
  • * Among the patients studied, the median age was 47.2 years, with a significant portion having complications such as renal (12.9%) and hepatic (6.8%); the study provides a comprehensive look at factors affecting ICU-LOS after heart transplantation.*

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the impact of aerobic exercise on heart lipid metabolism in rats fed a high-fat diet.
  • Fifty-five male Wistar rats were divided into five groups, with some undergoing swimming exercises and others on different diets to measure various health indicators over six weeks.
  • Results showed that aerobic exercise significantly reduced harmful biochemical markers and improved beneficial lipid profiles in rats on high-fat diets compared to control groups.

Purpose: To verify the feasibility of using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to measure the lower lid margin thickness (LLMT) from posterior lash line to the mucocutaneous junction.

Methods: This was a prospective, single-center, observational study. Fifty-six volunteers between 20 and 79 years old with normal healthy eyes were included in this study.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been confirmed to be aberrantly expressed and involved in the progression of neuroblastoma. This study aimed to explore the expression profile of lncRNA X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) and its functional involvement in neuroblastoma. In this study, the relative level of XIST in neuroblastoma tissues and cell lines was detected by qPCR, and DKK1 protein expression was determined using western blot.

Background: Traditional Chinese herbal medicine (TCHM) is widely used for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) in China. In this study, the authors analyzed the prognostic factors of selected patients with AGC, and further studied the efficacy of TCHM (a herbal formula for invigorating spleen, formerly named Wei Chang' An) on AGC.

Methods: Patients with uncured AGC were prospectively enrolled.

Objective: To establish a method for evaluating the activity of von Willebrand factor cleaving protease (vWF-cp) and evaluate its clinical application.

Methods: Purified von Willebrand factor polymer was isolated by gel filtration from human fresh-frozen plasma as the enzyme substrate. SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and luminographic detection were used to evaluate vWF-cp activity of 60 healthy adults, 28 patients with cerebral infarction (CI) and 7 with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
