This study addresses the alterations in nutrients [calcium, iron, and vitamins C and E (VC and VE, respectively)] and cordycepin content, alongside its sensory appeal in Cordyceps militaris, subjected to five distinct cooking methods: boiling, steaming, roasting, microwaving, and deep-frying. A comparative analysis showed the notable decline in nutrient content across most cooking methods excluding deep-frying. In notable contrast, the content of VE was substantially amplified during deep-frying, thereby emphasizing its value in preserving nutrients.

Low-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid lead halide perovskites have attracted much interest in solid-state lighting and displays, but the toxicity and instability of lead halide are obstacles to their industrial applications, which must be overcome. As an alternative, Cu(I)-based hybrid metal halides have emerged as a new type of luminescent material owing to their diversified structure, adjustable luminescence, low toxicity and low cost. Herein, we report three one-dimensional (1D) hybrid Cu(I)-based halides with the general formula ACuBr (A = [(Me)-Pipz] and [BuDA] and [TMEDA]).

The incidence of metabolic diseases has progressively increased, which has a negative impact on human health and life safety globally. Due to the good efficacy and limited side effects, there is growing interest in developing effective drugs to treat metabolic diseases from natural compounds. Kaempferol (KMP), an important flavonoid, exists in many vegetables, fruits, and traditional medicinal plants.

The interactions between past climate, human activity and environmental change in subtropical mountainous areas are poorly understood due to the lack of reliable records in South China. In this study, the evolution of the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) during the Holocene, and the interactions between regional human activity and environmental change, were studied using multi-proxy records from a subalpine peat core recovered from South China. The chronology of this peat core has been well-constrained by 10 AMS C dates of peat stems.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to characterise the whole genome sequence of multidrug-resistant Streptococcus pluranimalium strain SP21-2 of swine origin in China.

Methods: Illumina Miseq (200X coverage) and Nanopore PromethION platform (100X coverage) were used for genome sequencing. Rapid Annotation using Subsystem Technology (RAST) was used to annotate the genome of SP21-2.

Background: During an investigation into lignicolous freshwater fungi from the plateau lakes in Yunnan Province, China, two fresh collections of taxa were collected and examined morpholgically.

New Information: is characterised by: conidiophores which are semi-macronematous mononematous, erect, septate, smooth, slightly flexuous and pale brown; conidiogenous cells which are holoblastic, mono- to polyblastic, integrated, terminal, terminal or intercalary in conidial chains, doliiform and pale brown; conidia which are branched chains, acrogenous, straight or slightly curved, dark brown to blackish, pale brown or subhyaline at apex, 1-3 septate, strongly constricted at the septa, verruculose or finely echinulate and rounded at both ends. A new species was introduced, based on morphological and phylogenetic analysis of combined ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF sequence data.

A two-dimensional phononic crystal sensor model with high-quality factor and excellent sensitivity for sensing acetone solutions and operating at 25-45 kHz is proposed. The model for filling solution cavities is based on reference designs of quasi-crystal and gradient cavity structures. The transmission spectrum of sensor is simulated by the finite element method.

Depression increases the risk of progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia, where impaired emotion regulation is a core symptom of depression. However, the neural mechanisms underlying the decreased emotion regulation in individuals with MCI combined with depressive symptoms are not precise. We assessed the behavioral performance by emotion regulation tasks and recorded event-related electroencephalography (EEG) signals related to emotion regulation tasks simultaneously.

Objective: To analysis clinical phenotype and potential genetic cause of a family affected with hereditary coagulation factor Ⅻ deficiency.

Methods: The prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), fibrinogen (FIB), D-Dimer (D-D), coagulation factor Ⅻ activity (FⅫ:C) and coagulation factor Ⅻ antigen (FⅫ:Ag) were determined for phenotype diagnosis of the proband and his family members(3 generations and 5 people). Targeted capture and whole exome sequencing were performed in peripheral blood sample of the proband.

Cellular senescence severely limits the research and the application of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). A previous study conducted by our research group revealed a close implication of ROR2 in DPSC senescence, although the mechanism underlying the regulation of ROR2 in DPSCs remains poorly understood so far. In the present study, it was revealed that the expression of the ROR2-interacting transcription factor MSX2 was increased in aging DPSCs.

Background And Objectives: Chronic inflammation of bone tissue often results in bone defects and hazards to tissue repair and regeneration. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural cannabinoid with multiple biological activities, including anti-inflammatory and osteogenic potential. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of CBD in the promotion of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) osteogenic differentiation in the inflammatory microenvironment.

Background: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare degenerative disease of the central nervous system that can be contagious or hereditary and is a rare cause of rapidly progressive dementia. It almost always results in death within 1-2 years from symptom onset.

Case Summary: Here, we report the case of a 57-year-old male who initially experienced dizziness followed by a 1-mo fast decline in memory function.

Article Synopsis
  • Hyperlipidemia (HLP) is linked to conditions like obesity and cardiovascular diseases, and Emodin (EM), a natural compound, has shown potential in lowering lipid levels but its mechanism isn't fully understood.
  • Researchers created a hyperlipidemic zebrafish model by feeding them a high-cholesterol diet to study EM’s effects and found that EM improved survival, reduced body mass index, and corrected abnormal lipid levels.
  • Results indicated that EM helped reduce fat accumulation and liver damage while changing the expression of key molecules involved in lipid metabolism, suggesting it promotes better cholesterol uptake and reduces cholesterol production.

Liver fibrosis is a chronic pathological process that various pathogenic factors lead to abnormal hyperplasia of hepatic connective tissue, and its main feature is the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix. However, there are currently no drugs approved for the treatment of liver fibrosis. Phillygenin (PHI), a lignan isolated from Forsythiae Fructus, showed potential anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrosis effects but the mechanisms remain unknown.

Water pollution from antibiotics has attracted a lot of attention for its serious threat to human health. In this study, a magnetic adsorbent (zinc ferrite/activated carbon (ZnFeO/AC) was synthesized via microwave method to effectively remove gemifioxacin mesylate (GEM) and moxifloxacin hydrochloride (MOX). Based on the porosity of AC and the magnetism of ZnFeO, the resulting ZnFeO/AC has high adsorption capacities and can be easily separated from the solid-liquid system via a magnetic field.

An efficiently divergent intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation by unactivated alkenes with seleniranium ion-controlled Markovnikov/anti-Markovnikov specificities under mild conditions has been investigated. 2-Benzoxepin, isochroman, and isochromene can be produced in one-pot procedures from the same substrate in high yields and with high regio- and stereospecificity. The products are challenging to access via 7-endo-trig carbocyclizations and by 7-endo-trig carbocyclization/rearrangement/6-exo-trig oxycyclization and 6-exo-trig carbocyclization/deselenenylation reaction sequences, respectively.
